Nice Design & Features, November 27, 2005
This review is from: Samsung TX-R2779H 27" SlimFit HDTV w/ Built-In HD Tuner (Electronics)
Recently purchased this TV through Circuit City for around $550. The TV has a great design and looks very modern. The TV has quite a few inputs on the rear panel, including HDMI (1), Component Video (2), and S-Video (1). A huge selling point for me on this TV was the HDMI input, since many newer products (Sony DVP-NS90V DVD player with upscaling) have HDMI outputs. Setup was just as easy as with any other television. Upon first turning the TV on, a guide helps you set up the TV by asking you what language, time zone, type of cable, etc.
Overall, I have yet to find one thing that genuinely bothers me about the television. The only small complaint I have is that the speakers aren't as bassy as I'd like, but I guess they make surround sound and stereo systems with subwoofers for that. Coming from an old TV from like 1993, this TV is simply fantastic. Once again, a huge selling point is the HDMI input - a feature you don't see on pretty much any lower-end HDTV.
The controller is nice. The only complaint I have about it is that I tend to hit the arrow keys instead of the channel up/down buttons. On the bottom of the controller are four "quick access" type buttons that allow you to perform quick changes, such as changing the picture from normal to zoomed 1, zoomed 2, or 16:9 aspect (first button)...changing the picture mode from standard to dynamic, movie, or custom (second button)...changing the sound from standard to music, movie, speech, and custom (third button)...and access your self-programmed favorite channels.
I would give this television an overall rating of 8.5 or 9 out of 10. It was an excellent buy for the $550 I paid for it.

A lot of bang for your bucks, February 3, 2006
This review is from: Samsung TX-R2779H 27" SlimFit HDTV w/ Built-In HD Tuner (Electronics)
I purchased this TV to replace an ailing 22 year old Hitachi 19" portable. One of my purchase goals was to get the most features possible without spending more than $700 for the TV. After doing a bit of research this Samsung seemd to vit the bill quite nicely.
First major selling point is that this was the only HDTV in its price class with a built-in tuner to accept HD broadcasts over the air. There were a number of sets billing themselves as HD ready, but all required additional hardware to receive HD broadcasts. Like another reviewer pointed out, this set has a number of inputs for various video devices and includes an HDMI port for support of the latest devices. The set also comes with a remote that allows configuration from a very intuitive menu interface. It is possible to navigate the menu and configure the set without using the owner's manual, but I suggest looking the manual over as it rather nicely details how to configure special features.
At this point I wish to point out an issue some people have experienced with this set, but I myself have not experienced. Some have claimed that streaming text, like a ticker tape, at the bottom of the screen tends to bow at the center of the screen. If you search for reviews on this set, that complaint seems to appear commonly. I have not had the problem, but I point this out just so readers are aware it can happen.
Picture quality is crisp and clean for analog reception and digital high definition is just spectacular. I have been able to get clean digital broadcasts using an indoor antenna. The stereo sound provided by the TV is fine, but I suspect a lot of people will ultimately use home theater audio gear for sound.
Prior to this purchase, I had no prior experience with Samsung products. In the approximately 3 weeks I have owned this product, I have been very pleased with this television set. I recommend it to anybody who wants a HDTV without spending an arm and a leg, and wants something that is capable of receiving HD broadcasts over the air without expense of additional hardware.

quality HDTV at great price, February 15, 2007
This review is from: Samsung TX-R2779H 27" SlimFit HDTV w/ Built-In HD Tuner (Electronics)
I picked this up at sams club for $399 for use in our bedroom. Not sure if these other posters got bad sets but mine works great. I don't have any bowing and the speakers are plenty loud unless you are throwing a rave.
The only complaint I have is that if you are watching an HD channel you can't use the zoom function to fill the screen, so you often have side bars that really make your 27" tv look like a 20". When the signal is not HD you can use a zoom key to zoom up to 2 times.
Overall this is a great buy that I would suggest to anyone that is looking for a quality HDTV but is not concerned about large screen size.
