I got this TV for a great price, and it never ceases to amaze. The screen has to be seen to be believed, and with its component video compatability, my dvd player is showing me things I've never seen.

If you haven't done any research, you can usually expect to pay upwards of [$$$] for any HDTV. This samsung is a hot steal, it just came out in july 2002, and its already been marked down so much. It also has an s-video cord, which I have hooked up to my playstation 2. You can tell the difference between the regular hook-up and the s-video, its quality.

What may amaze people the most is the brand. No, this is not Sony's latest scheme, even though I've heard that Sony was the first to make HDTVs. No this is Samsung, who has been catching up in the electronic race lately. They came out with 3 "mass-market" HDTVs, a 27", 30", and a 32". I found the best price on the 27" obviously. Another great feature is the side-panel outputs, this is great if someone comes over with an x-box or something, you don't have to mess with your configuration in the back, just plug em into the side.

If you like a sharp picture, do yourself a favor and get this TV now. Its the cheapest HDTV on the market, but the quality shines through.

I've had this set for a few months now and honestly have no complaints. I'm an avid gamer who owns a Gamecube, a PS2, and an X-Box. And while the PS2 looks decent on the set,its the Gamecube and most definately the X-Box that makes this set shine. At this time far too few Tv stations broadcast in HD, so its external devices like DVD Players and videogame consoles that validate an HDTV purchase for most people. At this set delivers it has 3 AV inputs, 1 S-Video input, and 2 Component inputs. Its really those last 2 that matter as their necessary for a high definition display. The picture quality is excellent, as far as people complining about the contrast or color thats what the custom settings are for obviously. Also the image tilting that others complain about is due to the earths magnetic field and can be rectified through use of the "tilt" option found at the bottom of the picture menu under "p-Function".
Im not a videophile Im just a gamer who knows what looks good. And for this price you cannot go wrong.

I am a broadcast engineer for a FOX affiliate in Georgia, so I have seen quite a few monitors in my day. This set, is not for the large room,..but for quality of picture in normal broadcast, and definitely for High-Definition, it has few peers for quality. Also, I have one in our lobby, as a show piece, with our affiliates sound and picture, 24 hours a day, seven days a week since January 13, 2002, without so much as a hiccup, and zero upkeep. I have broadcast monitors in master control, that I wish were that good. (I also bought another one for my home in May 2003.) Its that good.

Overall a good TV and a great value. The color and resolution are excellent. I feel the sound is quite good as well. My only complaint is that there is a geomtric defect with the flat screen. Horizontal lines at the top of the screen are slightly bowed - about 2 mm lower at the center than on the sides. The only time this is noticeable is when watching in widescreen format. I looked at other flatscreens both analog and digital in multiple brands and this problem seems quite common with CRT TVs. Overall I'm satisfied with the TV.

This is a great way to get HDTV without breaking the bank. And since it is a 27-inch, it fits well even in my small apartment. The colors are very vivid and the clarity is amazing, especially with digital channels. Even the analog channels look somewhat better than with an analog TV, because all analog signals get upconverted to digital. Connectivity is good, enough to connect an HDTV set-top, cable, or satellite box, a DVD player, and a VCR. The component connections are necessary for the best picture on a DVD, and essential for a HDTV set top box. Glad that it has two high-definition component connections! Granted this may not be as good as a giant projection screen with DLP, but this is a great entry-level HDTV if you are interested in the increased picture quality of digital TV.

This was my first set purchase since I retired my old 19 inch Toshiba that I bought about 5 years ago. I couldn't beleive the difference.

The set has a great picture quality compared to other flat screen tubes (i.e. Wega) but is not the sharpest on the HDTV block. Still, the price makes this model more than affordable for people not looking to spend 1000+ dollars on a similar model.

One of my only gripes against this tv is the color is extremely vibrant, almost too vibrant at times. Even with the built in color adjustment, in the scene of the Lord of the Rings where the Fellowship is being formed, skin tones appear to be a deeper orange then they should. In movies with harsh white lighting the picture can seem a bit to washed out, this could very well be my dvd player however or a matter of personal taste.

The speakers in the system fair pretty average, with the added treble and boost bass being sufficient for most tv watching but drowning out mids when especially bassy or trebeled sounds are heard.

Overall I'd recommend this set if you're in the market and looking to spend 700. Make sure you have a composite connection on your dvd player, however to enjoy the true clarity this set can provide before purchase.

I just purchased this TV from Best Buys in West Covina, CA for $699.00. I purchased this set after returning the Zenith HDTV 27" that I purchased from Circuit City in Montebello, CA for the same price. Comparing the two products I would have to say that the Zenith HDTV 27" was far more superior. In terms of picture quality I'd give the edge to the Zenith, the colors were vivid, and had a lot of depth. In terms of sound, the Zenith was the best even better than Sony's BDE WOW! Surround Sound. I was shockingly surprised....

So you're wondering why did I exchange the Zenith...right??
Connectivity

The Zenith had 2 component inputs... one that was a 480p and the other a 1080i. So if you had a PS2 and Xbox using component cables it would work on the 480p not 1080i component input of the zenith. While this Samsung had 2 component inputs they both utilized 1080i/720p/480i/480p which allowed me to utilize both Component Inputs.

The BAD thing about this Samsung connectivity i must admit is that when you plug in the Side Inputs the sound would come out
if you played the Video 1 or Video 2. In other words the side connections is a temporary connection, you CANNOT LEAVE THE CONNECTIONS INSIDE. Doing so would turn on the audio from that connection...weird...really weird..

The other problem is there is 3 inputs in the back meaning if you use 2 component inputs...you only have one input left.. :<(
They trick you in thinking you have 3 inputs in the back 1 in the front and 2 components for a total of 6 inputs....

This HDTV set is fairly new and [the price is right]. I have been very happy for the most part. The color is excellent and the flat screen continues to amaze me. The HDTV set is a reality and the time to get one is now...if you have a HD tuner! I use Dish Network and get 3 HD signals (Shotime, HBO, CBS, plus HDTV demo) thru satellite. Watching CBS college football on saturday is amazing and worth the price. This set does not have all the bells and whistles so some of the decoding functions must be done by the HD receiver and the bottom of the picture will tend to be slightly disrupted at time. Its not annoying, but the first hour or so you will notice it.
Color is great and there are plenty of preset adjustments for sound, color and any other function you could use. This thing weighs a ton for a 27 inch TV. I had my old 27 mounted up high in the bedroom and this baby weighs more than twice as much, so have someone help you put this in.
Connectivity is good. there are plenty of componet/composite connectors, but only one S-Video connector on the side. Progressive scan DVD is almost a neccesity now.
I would say if you want to try an HDTV and not break the bank this is a good start. Of the comparable 27" I liked this best. Plus the case is "traditional" black. I'm not ready for a silver tv just yet.

Set was dead within less than three years.

Before it died it developed an incredibly high pitched squeal from the speakers. The frequency of the noise changed throughout the life of the set. At first it was so bad my dogs couldn't be in the room with the set on. Eventually the noise got to the point that our human ears adjusted to hearing it.

The day the set died I was watching a movie on HBO. The set normally makes a chime whenever you turn it on/off. The sound suddenly cut out and the set immediately made the chime it makes when you turn the set off only it was very slow. The screen went black and the set was dead. I am puzzled though that the inside parts are still receiving electricity. Should you plug the set into an outlet something inside is continually ticking.

Regardless this incredibly expensive Samsung POS died within two years of being manufactured and purchased. However my 19" CRT from God knows where manufactured in 1987 continues to run flawlessly to this day. Samsung can go die in a fire I won't waste my money on them again. I suggest you do the same.

I bought the Samsung TXM2796HF about 4 months ago and recently I am getting a loud humming sound from the speakers. The humming sound is very annoying. The picture quality is good but the sound is terrible.
