4.0 out of 5 stars Great picture for smaller rooms
Many professional reviewers of 27" high definition televisions find fault with them based on screen size. I don't agree. Many people dislike the idea of a television dominating a viewing room but still want the best picture available. This set is at the high end for a 27" HDTV with other offerings from Samsung and Zenith coming in at lower prices. The reason for the...

3.0 out of 5 stars A good set with problems
I'm giving this set the benefit of the doubt to award it 3 stars. It does have a very good picture (although white objects on black backgrounds shimmer slightly, even with progressive scan and 3/2 pulldown) and is relatively inexpensive given its features. My only complaints about features are that it doesn't allow you to turn off velocity scan modulation and it doesn't...

The reason for the difference in cost is due to the units 3D comb filter as opposed to the others use of older 3 line digital comb filters. The difference is minor but the 3D filter does add to the picture quality by providing more perceived depth of vision. The two High Definition componet inputs are nice also, allowing for a HD tuner and progressive DVD to be connected at the same time. The other major benefit of a 27" is weight! HDTV's are heavy and this one at only 105 lbs. can still be carried by a strong individual while the larger direct view sets with their extra weight and bulk shouldn't be moved by just one person.
While direct view HDTV's don't need to be professionally calibrated I did adjust mine using the "Sound and Vision Home theatre tune up" DVD and the picture was noticeably sharper.

The standard analog broadcast is exceptionally clear. At times, the detail appears almost digital. Star Wars, Episode II, played on my progressive scan JVC dvd player is absolutely breathtaking. And, the cost of this television was amazingly inexpensive. I , being a cheap yet persnickity person, am very pleased.

I'm giving this set the benefit of the doubt to award it 3 stars. It does have a very good picture (although white objects on black backgrounds shimmer slightly, even with progressive scan and 3/2 pulldown) and is relatively inexpensive given its features. My only complaints about features are that it doesn't allow you to turn off velocity scan modulation and it doesn't have an input for the upcoming digital DVD interface. Even without these features, it is a bargain. Nevertheless, I have a major problem with my set. It has a plastic case that expands and contracts with even minor changes in temperature to produce popping sounds that are quite loud (like a loud finger snap). Since we have the set in our bedroom and the popping can persist for serveral hours after it is turned off, it continually wakes us up. Samsung's service representative in our area said they couldn't do anything about it. My set also came with a nick in the power cord and Samsung told me my only recourse was to send it back to Amazon.com! It took over a month for the set to arrive after I ordered it, so I didn't want to suffer through the turnaround. Note: the top of the set is steeply angled downward toward the back--it doesn't have a flat surface to put your center channel speaker on if you have a surround system. If you don't have an entertainment center with room for a speaker or a speaker stand, you will have to rig something up. Note: the 2796 model has a different case. Bottom line: your set may have problems and Samsung will not go out of its way to help.

Just got mine today. Took a bit of fussing to make things work the way I wanted them too. Hooking this puppy up is definetely NOT for the timid. The only problem I have is that it has such good resolution that regular analog cable looks more grainy than it did on my old regular resolution TV (even with the digital enhancement feature turned on). DVDs viewed in progressive mode are stunning! This TV is the most customizable TV I have ever used. Minor issues: switching between video input sources is kind of cumbersome as you have to repeatedly press the button to cycle through them and the cycling is unnecessarily slow. Also: the TV makes this really annoying test tone when you turn it on. Overall I am very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome HDTV set!, February 22, 2003
This review is from: Samsung TXM2798HF 27" Neo Slim Design DynaFlat HDTV (Electronics)
This 27 inch HDTV is just awesome! Its internal line doubler upconverts NTSC signal to 480p flawless, so it outputs a great flicker free image, even with a non-progressive DVD player or a VHS. It also has 2 broadband component video inputs,I'm using this TV with an XBox & a PS2, and it produces an excellent image (it reproduces exactly the progressive scan picture of the XBox & it upconverts the interlaced output of the PS2 at 60fps). Its line doubler is far superior to the DRC in the Sony Wega HDTV (and I have seen the TVs side by side). The set also have 3:2 pulldown and supports the 16:9 anamorphic format, so is great for movies. The sound is loud & crisp, and the subwoofer adds a lot of bass. I have this HDTV for 2 weeks now and I can't be happier (I only wish I could have bought it cheaper (I paid $$$$ for it, but at the current price it's a steal!)

Samsung is not being very understanding. Getting the run around from Samsung (saying the opposite of what the local Authorized Samsung Repair tells me)

Buy Samsung ONLY if you want a DISPOSABLE TV. They do not stand behind their products.

I placed an order for this product three weeks ago, assuming that it would ship in "approximately 1-2 weeks." Well, I still haven't received it, and don't expect to receive it for another 2 weeks, bringing the grand total to over 5 weeks for when I placed the order. When I finally receive the item, hopefully I'll enjoy it. Whenever that may be.
