This snazzy, compact 20-inch set uses Samsung's DynaFlat picture tube, which not only looks cool compared to a conventional, bulbous screen, but also provides a high-quality, high-contrast picture through the screen's ability to reduce reflected ambient light and its built-in velocity-scan modulation technology. Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

The TXN2030F's digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). The unit offers an Invar shadow mask, too. A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow; each hole in the sheet corresponds to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing a brighter, clearer picture.

A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between a set of rear AV inputs and a set of side AV inputs for extra convenience when hooking up a camcorder or gaming console. A rear-panel fixed-level audio output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver. The set gives you stereo audio (with 3 watts per channel) from broadcast programming via Multi-channel Television Sound (MTS), which permits broadcasters to encode stereo audio within the video portion of TV programming signals.

The 52-pound set is easy to move between, say, the kitchen and a bedroom. It also features a trilingual onscreen display (English, Spanish, French), closed-caption display, V-Chip parental control, a sleep timer, an on timer, and a full-function remote control.

I wanted to buy a TV for my new RCA home-theater system, and I choose this one because of sub-$200 price bracket, flat-screen picture tube (boy, it looks so much cooler than traditional curved screen) and the trusted Samsung brand name. I do not regret for a moment that I did not go for more pricier Sony range. I have compared the picture of Sony WEGA and this TV, this Samsung gem performs equally good as WEGA. Add to that a great looking silver-finished design, awsome stereo sound, intuitive remote and menu control, top-notch technology like Velocity-Scan Modulation and Digital comb filter - and you get one of the best 20" TV available in the market, for a VERY reasonable price.

One note though: this TV has composite(RCA) and component video input, but lacks a S-Video input. If you require one, choose Samsung TXN2034F which costs $20 extra.
