Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

This snazzy, compact 20-inch set uses Samsung's DynaFlat picture tube, which not only looks cool compared to a conventional, bulbous screen, but also provides a high-quality, high-contrast picture through the screen's ability to reduce reflected ambient light and its built-in velocity-scan modulation technology. Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

The TXN2034F's digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). The unit offers an Invar shadow mask, too. A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while S-video, composite-video, and RF inputs accommodate all DVD players and other AV devices. You can choose between a set of rear AV inputs and a set of side AV inputs for extra convenience when hooking up a camcorder or gaming console. A rear-panel fixed-level audio/video output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver. The set gives you stereo audio (with 5 watts per channel) from broadcast programming via Multi-channel Television Sound (MTS), which permits broadcasters to encode stereo audio within the video portion of TV programming signals.

The 55-pound set is easy to move between, say, the kitchen and a bedroom. It also features a trilingual onscreen display (English, Spanish, French), closed-caption display, V-Chip parental control, a sleep timer, an on timer, nonvolatile memory to protect your picture settings even through a blackout, and a full-function remote control. A side-panel headphone jack affords private listening.

What's in the Box
TV, remote control, remote batteries, and user's manual.

1.0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor! Buyer Beware!, June 11, 2003

This review is from: Samsung TXN2034F 20" Analog Flat Screen TV (Electronics)
I bought this model for the value, look and seeming quality. I was very excited to get it and immediately set it up. I was very disappointed to find that a distinct buzzing/humming noise comes from the back of the set. It is definitely loud enough to disturb your TV experience, especially in a quiet room/area.
At first, I thought it was just a defect on that particular set but that is not the case. I exchanged it for another of the same model and found the exact same problem. Although it is easy to use and the picture quality is pretty good, the sound of that buzz killed all the good stuff. I exchanged it for a more expensive model and am now waiting for my Sony to arrive. I see others have commented on this problem for other "inexpensive" brands/models. Good luck!

2.0 out of 5 stars bang!, July 12, 2003

Had it for a month, liked it for the most part, but the picture seemed a bit shaky... after a month or so, there was a loud static crack and the picture went out. I don't think I would be comfortable recommending this model.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor color, poor quality, don't bother, January 27, 2004
This review is from: Samsung TXN2034F 20" Analog Flat Screen TV (Electronics)
Samsung makes a lot of good products, but this isn't one of them. The color is so unnatural it can't be corrected. Mine developed an electrical problem and, after 3 services in 6 months, I told them to keep it. The color problem wasn't unique to my defective set, either. I auditioned this model at Circuit City and their floor model had the same problem. With the flat screen and numerous inputs, I thought I'd picked a winner. I was wrong!
