The TXN3245FP offers Samsung's Digital Pro Picture three-stage video processing system that produces a high performance picture from both analog and digital sources. The Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing) improves analog to digital signal processing, the Pro Chip Plus converts all analog signals to the better flicker-free progressive scan, and the three-line digital comb filter analyzes multiple lines of picture information to minimize edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.
The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theater-like experience at home. This set also features an Invar shadow mask (an alloy material used to attain better focus and brightness consistency), color temperature controls, and four video presets (standard, dynamic, movie, custom) that optimize the picture for brightness, sharpness, color, and tint.
It has a built-in 181-chanel NTSC tuner that receives MTS and SAP stereo broadcasts. Its built-in speakers have 15 watts of power apiece and it features a headphone jack on the side of the set. Two component-video inputs allow you to connect an optional HDTV receiver or a source with component-video outputs. It also has 4 composite A/V inputs (3 rear, 1 side), 1 A/V output, 1 S-video input (side), and 2 RF inputs (rear).
Tech Talk
Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Standard television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television will have either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, which is widescreen and appears rectangular, looking more like a movie screen and filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.
Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines of video that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, like a computer display.

You need something to tide you over until HDTV prices come down? I got this TV and it takes a little messing around with the picture to get it looking good, but once you figure that out, DVD's look AWESOME! IT's like watching on a HDTV. I've got digital cable, and the picture is a little grainy but still clearer than the 32" analog Sony Wega (no horizontal scan lines with this Samsung!!!) I would get an even nicer TV, but I want to wait until HDTV prices fall. This is a great inbetween analog and HDTV alternative. The only Negative statement I can make on this Samsung is that when you are close (within a few feet) to the tv the picture is a little grainy on broadcast television, but still as good as analog sets. Who needs to sit that close to their tv anyways?

This tv is perfect for the kind of person who doesn't watch a lot of tv but wants to watch dvds and/or play games in 480p (progressive scan). Out of the box the tv needs to be calibrated to look its best (everything is set too high). Once adjustments are made you have a crystal clear digital picture - you just won't believe how good it is for this price. With 2 sets of component video inputs you can easily hook up a digital cable receiver and set it to output in 480p and you've essentially got an hdtv for much less money. Excellent quality. I don't know about the speakers as I use my surround sound system for that. A word of caution though some tvs of this model have poor power supplies but most are fine. If you are getting a poor picture or flicker exchange it for the same model (I had to do this). If you are getting an unbelievable crystal clear picture you've got a good one, don't settle for one of the duds. There's a hidden service menu that lets you adjust the picture quality further and fix geometry.. accessing this menu is a must just search online and you'll find out how.

This has to be the best deal currently going on ED/HDTV. I've had this set for almost two months and I love it. Out of the box, you might be unhappy with it, but if you search online, you'll find a message board full of good instructions on how to make the proper adjustments from within the service menu -- including a few settings that give the TV video/audio abilities it's not advertised to have. Get a calibration disc such as Video Essentials to help you make the adjustments. The 480p image, straight up from DVDs or digitally enhanced over-the-air, is gorgeous, with incredible clarity for a non-HD picture.
