Great TV For the Money,
By Michael Taylor "Michael Taylor" (Indian Trail NC) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Samsung TXS2782H 27" Slim Fit HDTV (Electronics)
In my humble opinion, the Samsung 27" Slim Fit HDTV, is an excellent tv for the money. We got the set about a week ago and have so far thoroughly enjoyed it!
The picture quality is crisp and clear and you are able to adjust the picture size as you see fit. We wanted to get a high-quality tv without having to take out a second mortgage and this set fits the bill. There are many connections you can use for video gaming stations and stereo systems and the sound quality of the tv is fabulous. You cannot go wrong with this tv, particularly if you are looking for a quality set without having to pay a high price. Recommended!

Defective,

This review is from: Samsung TXS2782H 27" Slim Fit HDTV (Electronics)
I have the HD Tuner model of this television. Same thing, just built-in HD Tuner.
Do not purchase this television. Do NOT. Why, you ask? It has major defects. The picture quality, features, inputs and outputs, and aesthetics are AMAZING for the price. But you just can't get around defects. I purchased this television about 4 months ago. The well-documented geometric "bowing" that seems to take place at the edges of the screen are very apparent. I simply cannot believe Samsung can release a TV with a defect as major as this. The edges of the screen, especially when watching digital broadcasts, look like you are watching them through goggles or something. Terrible. If there is a stock ticker or menu or graphic along the edges of the screen, they are wavy, and bend outwards towards the edge of the screen. Why have an HDTV if the screen is defective? Secondly, another well-documented defect started to occur about a month ago. Purple and yellow blotches or blobs of color are forming on the left and right sides of the screen. If you watch Family Guy, Peter's face is green instead of peach. Nice. I thought only the bowing was the main problem, but after some internet-research, I found tons of others with this problem as well. If you don't believe me, search on Google, you will find a forum with 56 pages of complaints on this one model of television. Degaussing the television does NOT help. Thirdly, when you are watching digital broadcasted HDTV, the commercials make your set snap and pop in between commercials. If that's not annoying, I don't know what is. I've found others with this problem as well!! All three of these major problems, and the refusal of Samsung to issue a recall or replacement, is making me give this TV 2 stars. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars (instead of 1) is because if it weren't for these defects, which is happening on over half of the TV sets purchased, this would be one of the best values the television market has ever seen. HDMI, component, optical out, slim fit design, it's perfect - until the defects start to take effect. DO NOT BUY THIS TELEVISION. And to a lot of reviewers out there that say the geometric "bowing" at the edges of the screen isn't a big deal, come on over to my house and see how horrible it is on MY screen. Not a good purchase.

Defective Line,

These televisions are defective. Stay away. The majority of this model has screen distortion, such as an hourglass effect on the edges that can ruin your viewing experience.
I purchased this TV aware of these complaints, hoping I would 'luck out'. It didn't work that way. In store, the problem is hard to detect if you don't know what to look for. You need a channel with straight lines at the edges or text near the sides, or for Cablevision subscribers, setting the image so it doesn't take up the full screen and you have the empty bars at the sides of the screen. Once you bring it home and go through your channels and start playing with the television, you will notice the problem, and on some channels and especially with games with boxes and text, it will drive you crazy. I called Samsung about the problem, they sent a company to repair the TV, who ended up taking it for 3 weeks, and returning it in a much worse state. The screen edges were so warped, I doubt anyone even looked at it before packing it back into the truck to me. So I decided to just return the TV to the store. I exchanged it for the same model, which also had this same problem. Luckily I noticed it when they set it up for me in-store. We opened another box of the same model and SAME PROBLEM! Their floor model also suffered from the screen bowing effect. I've heard that approximately 70% of these televisions are defective in this manner. I ultimately exchanged the TV for a 23" Sony Bravia that I am extremely happy with. Be warned. The price, incredible image and features of this set may be alluring, but purchasing it is taking a gamble that is definately not in your favor. If you do buy it, buy it from a local retailer with a good return policy, ie. Circuit City.

I purchased this TV for Games, movies and then regular TV in that order. All I can say is I am impressed. The picture is perfect, no problems with the screen whatsoever. The colors are amazing, the sharpness has to be seen to be believed for this price. It can't be beat. I have sold 3 tv's of this brand simply by showing my roomates the amazing picture. One small issue, when hooking up exterior speakers I get a strange echo. After spending an hour or so I am thinking its the speakers and not the tv. But I will edit this if it turns out otherwise. Just an amazing tv.

This is a great TV, I went on to buy a new tube TV but since it's going in an entertainment center there was no need for a plasma or LCD screen, so I opted to save the money and this TV turned out great! I got the 4:9 ratio due to space (width) but wish I had enough space for the 16:9, if width is not an issue for you, widescreen is the way to go with HD, the TV has it all, all kinds of inputs, but most importantly HDMI!! I had no problem with tickers as others had mentioned, for me this TV perfectly meets and exceed my expectations!!

Samsung has led me on a journey of regret...,

First off i want to say that I am not uspset w/samsungs customer service reps , their just doing their job like the management wants, but their warranty policy sucks. I bought the 30 inch model(txs3082-in home warranty service because of size) ) of this tv at circuit city and 6 months later it developed a growl when turned on. Sounded like a bad flyback transformer although I am no tv tech.I must say the picture quality was good, not perfect but I was ok with it.So I call Samsung customer service May 30, i tell them i live in San Diego County, they say call Davids tv but I live to far so Davids won't help me so I call back Samsung customer service and they say there is no one else in my area
( yea 3 million people in the county and no one else?!?!?). So the customer service rep say they have to do a complete zip code check of the whole area to try and find another shop and it will take 14 working days, call back on Jne 18.So 14 w/days pass and no reply so I call back, this time I'm told my service request has to go up the chain of command to the executive regional service something or other (like being back in the NAVY lol). They say that will take another 3 or 4 days. So i wait for 4 days and CB and now I am upset and I let them know it. So know the customer service manager says how sorry they are and says he'll get ahold of the regional Samsung repair/store rep but they can't/won't give me his/her name because that isn't their policy to provide customers with that info. They say please wait another 3-4 days for a reply about getting the set fixed. Finally on June 25 Poway Rancho Bernardo TV send out some guys to get the set and take it to the shop for repairs. On july 6 Poway TV says Samsung sent them a bad power module and there is another problem with the TV and they are waiting for Samsung to contact them. Now it is July 17 and I still don't have my TV back. I am not sure how this will turn out, but I will be hesitant about ever buying another Samsung Product. It just is not worth the frustration, waste of time and effort to get them to honor their warranty.

I got this TV because I wanted to get a new HDTV but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg. So far it's been great (had it about a month now). A few things to note:
- Unit is a standard (4:3) TV, so HD programs will have black bars. You can zoom in to get rid of them, but then you're losing some of the picture. - For whatever reason, I can't get the TV remote to control any of my other AV equipment (DVD player, Tivo). Not sure why, but programming it according to the manual doesn't work. All this said, it's a great set, picture looks good at both standard definition (SDTV) as well as in HD.
