2.0 out of 5 stars Geometry Problems
The glowing reviews here at amazon inspired me to purchase this T.V. two weeks ago. Regrettably, I have already exchanged the set three times, only to find the same geometry problems in each replacement set: the image bows noticeably on each of the four sides into the middle of the screen, and what's more, the image has never been centered, but shifted up to 2 inches...

I bought this set almost a week ago at Best Buy for under $900.00. It was very heavy to get upstairs, but once installed in the cabinet, it was very easy to set up. The picture is absolutely gorgeous, even on non-HD channels when compared to a regular television; on HD channels the picture is crisp and sharp and the color just POPS. On other sites, I have read about distortion that is noticeable on the Samsung SlimFit, but this has not been my experience with this television. In checking out various sets in the stores, I always always let my eyes do the shopping. I can always pick out a Sony without looking at the name of the set, but with this one, I noticed the Samsung sets looked pretty darn good, and I am a Sony person. However, I did not want to spend more than a $1000.00 for a new TV and was limited as to how large a set I could get. My last very good set is a regular Sony 27" that is lasting forever in the family room, but we just lost a different set in our TV room; I thought the 30" inch screen Samsung HDTV was a good step up. I am very happy I bought this set. It really does provide a great viewing experience, complete with good sound for a very good price.

November 11, 2007- Just an update: We still love this TV. We've never had an ounce of trouble and the picture is just gorgeous. Maybe we're not discriminating enough, but we have good eyes. I am very glad I purchased this product and would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Took the gamble. Glad I did., October 3, 2006
This review is from: Samsung TXS3082WH 30" Wide Slimfit HDTV (Electronics)
I obsessed for a while before buying this TV. Whenever I went to visit it at my local Best Buy, I thought it looked great. But I kept reading all of these negative reviews...

So, I finally made the purchase about three months ago and have been delighted. The picture is crisp and vivid. Honestly, I like it better than the LCD displays. I bought a 32" Sharp Aquos before this one and returned it because I found the ghosting to be irritating. Unless you are really, really excited about hanging a TV on your wall, I don't see any reason to pay twice as much for a flatscreen. The Samsung also looks about a thousand times better when watching lo-res TV.

Yes, the geometry issues are there. If you look at any channel with a ticker or bar across the bottom, you can see that it bows upwards. But I found that I noticed this and then forgot about it. It's not severe enough to bother most people.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good low cost unit for a gamer, June 21, 2006
This review is from: Samsung TXS3082WH 30" Wide Slimfit HDTV (Electronics)
Picked this unit up last week at BestBuy on an open box sale for about the same price as it is being offered here(about $650), So far so good. Exellect starter unit for those not ready to spend over $1000 on a LCD or Plasma. It is a good space keeper until someone is ready to upgrade to a high end unit. A minor cut off issue on the lower end corners when playing xbox360, but it has a picture tilt option in the user menu, or you can switch to 4:3 ratio. One of the few models I have seen at this price range with two component ports and two HDMI ports plus a built in HD Tunner. If you only have $600 or $700 to spend this is the TV for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Geometry Problems, September 12, 2006

The glowing reviews here at amazon inspired me to purchase this T.V. two weeks ago. Regrettably, I have already exchanged the set three times, only to find the same geometry problems in each replacement set: the image bows noticeably on each of the four sides into the middle of the screen, and what's more, the image has never been centered, but shifted up to 2 inches either to the left or right. These problems translate into wobbly text on the screen, an off-center picture when viewing in 3:4 mode, and, of course, distorted images all around. I was hesitant to buy this T.V., as I had previously twice purchased and finally requested a refund on a Samsung CRT that also had serious image problems. But given the lack of HD TVs in this size at this price point, I sadly accepted the fact that I wouldn't be able to buy a Sony this time around, and that a Samsung was my only option. I do not recommend this set to the discriminating viewer, and I give the T.V. two stars only for offering HD at a sub-$1000 price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a gamer's bedroom, June 21, 2006

I always wanted my own HDTV ever since 2003, one of the main reasons was for gaming, watching movies was secondary. Starved to see "the difference" on component video cables with my GameCube (unfortunately they were discontinued by the time I was ready to buy them) and really upgrade my set. After 3 years of progress, design, adoption by the gaming industry and weeks of saving between two jobs... it's definitely worth the wait.

I've heard a lot of bad things from the HDTV forums regarding CRT sets and Samsungs but I really can't see anything wrong with this set. I suppose it has something to do with being the latest model that most of last year's bugs are ironed out.

At first I was a bit worried if I'd have any problems with the set because of the above but luckily I didn't have to worry. Turned it on with all my connections in place and tested everything. Even RCA cables (GameCube, Dreamcast) didn't look bad either.

The set is bigger than I expected too... and I've checked out the TV in stores! It fits perfectly on my Sauder Entertainment center.

I plan on getting more Component Video cables and hope to upgrade to HD cable pretty soon. Also, I don't want to leave those HDMI ports unused but right now I don't have any devices that support it. That being said, I haven't explored the HD difference with anything over 480p (my DVD player) but I just got my ATi HD-to-DVI adapter so I'll test out my anime later.

Unless you're hard pressed to get a 1080p set as a future PS3 adopter, I think you'll find this TV to be perfect for your home.

Keep in mind though I had to be VERY precautious with measuring the set before buying. Don't ever buy a set blindly.

It's a $1000 value but you can get it for a lot less, let me tell you it's worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't find much fault with it, December 31, 2006

This review is from: Samsung TXS3082WH 30" Wide Slimfit HDTV (Electronics)
I've had the Samsung HD slim fit for almost a year now. Mine is a different model # than above I guess because it's an older model. What I liked so much about this TV is that regular broadcasts look decent. Much better than they did on the Poloriod LCD TV that a first bought and quickly returned to the store. (another story)
Quite frankly I have seen better pictures on other HD TV's, but not for the money I spent! This TV had gives decent results with regular broadcast and a very good picture on HD broadcasts.
It was reassuring to read the positive feed back here as on consumer reports this TV got very bad ratings.
I don't understand why.

1.0 out of 5 stars Such a disappointment, February 28, 2007
By
This review is from: Samsung TXS3082WH 30" Wide Slimfit HDTV (Electronics)
When I first saw this television in the store, I was impressed. I needed a new television, and liked the CRT-type HDTVs. I'd also purchased several Samsung computer monitors in the past and was happy with them.

From the first time I got the set up and running, I knew something was wrong. Vertical lines were just way off, perhaps more than a half inch from bottom to top of screen. White flickers often appeared at the top of the display. When watching a program in 4:3 mode, the right side bows in a the top. But, those are the good parts of the picture. On the left, it would bow in, then out, then in again. If a solid color was shown on the screen, as produced by the digital converter box from the cable company, there was a dark area several inches across running from top to bottom. When viewing a scene where the camera was panning, you could see the picture distort as it passed over the area. Oftentimes, a bright blue line would appear alongside the picture. I went and got from the cable company a HDTV converter box, hoping that would help. It didn't. Some areas seemed to have blotches off color from what the rest of the picture was showing. Maybe I should give a second star as a plus because the thing actually turned on when I pressed the power button. That's about all it did properly.

I'm really sorry I bought this television, and I wish I had researched the comments here and on other sites before I bought it, the majority of them negative for many of the same problems I'm having with it.

I can say the undistorted parts of the picture are quite nice, unfortunately you don't watch television just looking at the undisturbed parts of the picture. I'm really disappointed in Samsung for putting this stinker out, and worse for keeping it on the market.

Tomorrow I try to lift 120 pounds or so of television back into the box, into the car, and back for a refund, where I'm girding for battle as it seems the store wants a 15% fee for return of electronics. I refuse to pay for a defective item. I hope Amex will back me up on that.

This television was over $600, not a minor sum of money to most of us. I'll just put my old Panasonic back on the stand and give up on HDTV for now.

2.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware - This Lemon is Tart, July 20, 2006
By
This review is from: Samsung TXS3082WH 30" Wide Slimfit HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this set two months ago and never used it much except with an Xbox 360. Recently I noticed that the red and blue pixels on the left side of the screen were a little off. Even in 1080i mode I could see this in the game icons off to the left side of the screen. The middle of the screen was great, it was just on the left side. I went to two different stores and checked their displays and saw the same thing. Then I googled the matter and saw that the previous generations of Samsung's slimfit sets had "Geometry Issues". A totally different problem where the bottom of the screen is slightly bowed. This is mostly noticeable on channels with tickers like CNN. Guess what? This set has a similar issue. To compensate Samsung added the "tilt" adjustment in the set's picture menu. This did not fix the pixel issue though. I called Samsung and their Tech said all TVs do this (No they don't). I like the numerous features of this set and wanted to buy an extended service policy from Samsung, just in case. The Tech had me wait a few minutes and came back saying they did not offer one on this model (That makes me nervous). If I spend this much money on a TV I want it to be perfect! Shame on Samsung for putting out a TV with known issues. Lemon be thy brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good buy, January 3, 2007
This review is from: Samsung TXS3082WH 30" Wide Slimfit HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this television unit about four months ago. I got an exceptional price on it, and I've been nothing but satisfied with the purchase. I was originally looking for a flat-panel television, but I was attracted to this one because it has the look of a flat-panel from the front. The only downside is that it's very heavy, but it's well worth the weight. I haven't had any problems with picture clarity, or any weird effects. As far as I'm concerned, picture clarity is top notch and I'd imagine it'd look even better if you had an HD box as well. Depending on the size of your living room, the 30-inch screen size might be a bit small, but this TV would work wonders in a bedroom.

Excellent choice if you're buying this unit.
