Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description One of the largest plasma screens ever built, Samsung's 63-inch HPN6339 flat-panel television is broad enough--and slender enough in profile--to turn just about any room into a luscious home theater. The set's native resolution is 1,366 x 768, and its direct-digital DVI input works with compatible high-definition DTV set-top boxes and PCs. There's also a standard RGB computer input. A built-in analog tuner, a pedestal stand, and a generous array of audio/video connections make setup a snap. Further, the set's widescreen (16:9) display is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies, either from DVD or from HDTV broadcasts when the set is hooked up to a DTV receiver (not included).

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the HPN6339 is an astoundingly narrow 3.5 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting using optional accessories. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.

Additional inputs include one HD component-video input (480p/720p/1080i) and one SD component-video input (480i) as well as one each S-video, composite-video, and RF. Samsung's proprietary video-enhancement technology, Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe), performs 3D noise reduction and detail and contrast enhancement for all interlaced (non-HD) sources.

The set also houses a 10-watts-per-channel audio amplifier for use with optional speakers, such as those in your existing stereo or home theater, or Samsung's matching PSM6330 speakers. Other optional accessories include a wall-mount kit (WMN6330) and a pedestal stand (pictured, SMM6330).

The set's NTSC two-tuner picture-in-picture (side-by-side, split-screen) grants convenient, simultaneous viewing of two TV programs, and a fanless cooling system ensures quiet operation.

More about DNIe
Digital Natural Image engine(DNIe) that could take a signal from any kind of source-not just conventional or high-definition digital broadcasting, but even DVD, Camcorder, PC and games-and turn it into a stunning picture on any kind of screen. The input signal passes through a series of four advanced processes that form the core of the DNIe technology.

The first of these processes, the Motion Optimizer, is responsible for noise reduction. the visual data are automatically broken down into signal and noise and analyzed through a combined spatial/temporal process. DNIe‘s noise reduction technology permits a startling level of sharpness even in minute details and rapidly changing scenes. Unlike conventional noise reduction methods, the Motion Optimizer combines a motion adaptive temporal filter, which detects and reduces noise in the temporal space between successive frames, with spatial noise reduction applied to the two-dimensional image space.

After passing through the Motion Optimizer, the visual signal is sent to the Contrast Enhancer. This process automatically adjusts contrast and brightness to natural levels, producing an extraordinarily rich and vivid picture. In scenes of motion or rapid change,a separate contrast value should ideally be set for each visual signal, but this presents great technological difficulties. DNIe’s Contrast Enhancer process has overcome these difficulties by applying over 1 million criteria for contrast and automatically determining the optimum contrast level for any kind of visual data. The Contrast Enhancer can also analyze up to 70,000 local images within a frame to preserve contrast in the smallest details without affecting overall color or brightness.

The next step in the signal's journey from input to high-quality output is the Detail Enhancer. DNIe's Detail Enhancer uses its own specially developed technology to dramatically improve sharpness just where it matters. The slightly unnatural appearance that results from conventional uniform detail enhancement is re-detected and re-adjusted to produce a strikingly sharp and convincing image. Conventional detail enhancement is based on the artificial amplification of the input signal, but this inevitably produces small areas of noise boost-up and flicker.

The final process undergone by the input signal is the Color Optimizer. For each scene, the Color Optimizer analyzes the hues of the input signal to determine and preserve the overall level of brightness. The colors are adjusted and improved, without unnatural intensification, to give vivid tones corresponding to the living shades of nature. By calculating the color saturation of red, green, and blue in each scene, the colors are optimized to the shades that the human eye accepts as natural.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent display, December 23, 2003
This review is from: Samsung Tantus HPN6339 63-Inch Flat-Panel Plasma TV (Electronics)
Samsung has created a perfect display for home theater. I mounted it over my fireplace and everyone who sees it, loves it.

From movies, to Football and regular tv, everything looks great.
Three minor things kept me from giving it 5 stars, I would put 4 1/2 if I could.
1) The Dnie image enhancer makes some images look too clear and therefore fake but you can turn it on and off with a single button on the remote, so it's not a big deal.
2) The PC resolution is only 1024x768 with DVI and 1280x1024 Interlaced XGA, higher res. from both would be better.
3) Samsung for whatever reason seems to have changed its remote control codes, so I had to teach all of the tv functions to my universal remote, again not a big deal.

Overall a great display, on sale I dropped 18.5k and another .8k for the wall mount. Which was notable, to hang 150 lbs. in new construction meant cutting out 3' x 2' of the drywall and plaster coating, building in framer boxes between the existing studs and covering that with 3/4" plywood. Again not a huge deal because the set is 5' x 3' so it covers the work, but having a friend who's a carpenter helped out greatly.

4.0 out of 5 stars RE: Amazon Plasma TV Listings & Prices too good to be true, August 29, 2004
This review is from: Samsung Tantus HPN6339 63-Inch Flat-Panel Plasma TV (Electronics)
Amazon isn't cleaning up their listings so here is a heads up to all--

Below is some email correspondence I had with someone who checked into these Amazon sales. If Amazon's "used and new" section has Plasma TV's for $1000+ below market price BE WARE!

1.0 out of 5 stars Scam Artists on Prowl, September 12, 2004
This review is from: Samsung Tantus HPN6339 63-Inch Flat-Panel Plasma TV (Electronics)
Yet another example of scam artists in action. A (...) plasma TV for (...) I doubt it. I have tried ordering these 10 cents on the dollar "values" and all 15 of them have been bogus. Amazon has been really good at kicking these scammers off, but only after they've listed. Wish they'd require a better kind of upfront verification of goods, but oh well, it's always been buyer beware!
