From the Manufacturer

(March 3, 2009)
Redefining the standards for viewing quality, energy-efficiency and home entertainment decor, the Samsung 7000 Series LED HDTV deliver unparalleled picture quality and enhanced connectivity while also helping you reduce your carbon footprint with the reduced power consumption of the LED screen. Using Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) as its primary light source--rather than traditional Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFL)--this cutting edge HDTV also offers the benefits of an ultra-high contrast ratio and a slim depth that allows for a more artful design.

Samsung's 7000 Series LED HDTV line-up boasts high dynamic contrast ratios, complements of the ground breaking LED light source. The widget-based interface and scrollbar run along the bottom of the screen for easy browsing of the latest programs and content. And this HDTV is accented by Samsung's TOC (Touch of Color), which offers a hint of a translucent color around the edges of the unit for a uniquely fashionable look.

Full HD 1080P

Full HD, or 1080p, contains 1.5 times more scanning lines than conventional HD TVs. More scanning lines mean more pixels, more details and a better picture. The new Samsung LCD TV with resolution that is approximately 2 times greater than conventional HDTVs, creating the most perfect picture imaginable.

Samsung’s 1080p panel uses a new high-speed liquid crystal to cut response time to 4ms. The fast response time, coupled with Samsung’s Auto Motion Plus 120Hz motion blur reduction technology dramatically reduces motion blur and judder.

Breakthrough LED Picture Quality

Compared to a traditional CCFL, LEDs produce darker blacks that appear endlessly deep to the eye. Whites also remain crisp and bright with vivid colors. The result is picture quality that measures up to the natural beauty of life. For instance, Samsung's Wide Color Enhancer Pro feature lets consumers enjoy a broader color palette. The Ultra Clear Panel further allows the preservation of every detail even in brightly-lit, imperfect viewing conditions. This is done by effectively allowing more light to pass through the screen and simultaneously reducing reflections from ambient light. And with an adaptive "Natural" mode, Samsung's LED HDTVs can combine the recognized brightness advantage of LCD displays with the cinema-like viewing experience of plasma displays by automatically optimizing picture settings.

The benefits of using LEDs include not only improved picture quality, but also reduced power consumption levels to easily meet the stringent new Energy Star v3.0 guidelines. The LED modules are mercury-free, which makes for cleaner manufacturing and safer recycling when compared with backlight technologies currently available. In the LED HDTV line, energy consumption is reduced by 40 percent versus traditional LCD HDTVs of a similar size. The LED HDTVs also include a power indicator menu, and an optimized energy savings mode. In addition, these TVs require less material to manufacture and are thinner, reducing packing material and consumer waste. The smaller packaging allows for more units to be shipped and less fuel to be consumed at a time which potentially reduces Samsung's carbon footprint.

Auto Motion Plus 120Hz

This technology doubles the frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (120Hz LCD panel) without repeating the same image to make more frames. Instead, the TV intelligently calculates the ‘middle’ image between frame A and frame B and inserts it in between (Auto Motion Plus 120Hz processor), making a fluid transition from one frame to the next.

Touch of Color

In 2008, Samsung created its unique Touch of Color (ToC) design, which uses dual-injection molding to coat a translucent, colored surface to achieve an attractive crystalline appearance. The latest evolution of Samsung's ToC design begins with a deep piano black bezel that fades into distinct chrome that finishes as light ruby highlights on the 7000 and 7000 Series LED HDTVs. The intensity of the color subtly changes depending upon the viewing angle, and further accentuates these TV's slim bezels.

Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA)

You already know something about digital living. There’s the TV and digital video recorder in your family room. (And another set in your bedroom.) You have a PC and digital printer in your office, along with a network attached storage device. And you’ve copied all your music onto your portable music player and haven’t had to open a CD case for years. But getting them to talk to each other can be pretty tough. Why is it still so difficult to send digital content from one device to another?

Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a collaboration of the world’s leading consumer electronics, PC and mobile companies that has created design guidelines for a new generation of products that can work together — no matter the brand.

Think for a moment about all of the photos "locked away" on your home PC that you wish you could access while entertaining your friends and family. Now, thanks to DLNA enabled devices, a DLNA-enabled PC can be accessed from the comfort of your living room or family room via a DLNA-enabled HDTV, where you can enjoy your memories with friends and family, without having to deal with the hassle and non-intuitive "PCexperience".

Or, say you recently downloaded your daughter’s birthday party video from your digital camcorder to your PC. Now you want to share it with your parents who are visiting. Without DLNA, you probably have to burn a DVD of the video or hook up the camcorder to the TV. With DLNA, you can just use your TV’s remote to call up the video on your TV. That's it.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Product Description

The Samsung UN40B7000 Series of television build upon the success of Samsung's first and second generation LED HDTV models. Each using LEDs as their primary light source, the televisions all feature ultra-high contrast ratios as well as slim depths that allow for more artful designs, plus increased energy savings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Stunning, June 11, 2009
This review is from: Samsung UN40B7000 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV (Electronics)
I have been researching televisions for quite some time now and was originally going to go with a Samsung 4 months ago but when I found the 2009 line would be coming out I figured I'd wait and boy am I glad I did. When I first saw some reviews on Cnet I was a bit concerned, even though they listed the 40B7000 as their top choice they stated some cons regarding the viewing angle and some issues they noticed with the LED's being visible sometimes. This made me decide that I would view the screens in person as opposed to just purchasing on Amazon as I intended to do and really didn't think I needed to see in person. Never the less I'm glad I did because any fear I had was immediately irrelevant once I saw the set in person. Needless to say I saw none of the issues mentioned on Cnet and the set blew me away that I couldn't wait any longer and purchased right then! I have had the set for about 2 weeks and I kick myself every time I turn it on, everything looks just AMAZING!! It is the most beautiful TV I have ever seen. My mother and 2 of my friends who were in the market for TV's came over and all of them are purchasing the same set. I plan on getting the 55'' when I move into my new house! There are so many features I haven't even been able to figure out yet. You will not be disappointed with this product. Thank you Samsung!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny, June 26, 2009
This review is from: Samsung UN40B7000 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV (Electronics)
I've been researching TV's for the past couple of months now. I own a samsung 26 inch hd tv thats 1080i that I got two years ago and wanted to get an upgrade. After reading numerous reviews I decided to go with an Led backlit TV over a plasma since I play a lot of video games and was worried about the burn in. I like the previous reviewer read the cnet review and was a little worried about the off-angle viewing and the variable backlighting with this most recent model of tvs.
I've had this tv for about a week now and absolutely love it. The TV itself looks amazing. The stand is both sturdy and stunning. The picture quality is absolutely breathtaking. I have little to no problem with the glare. The viewing angle is extremely wide I have yet to encounter a problem and the lighting is very uniform. This tv produces the most true blacks I've seen on any TV. Images really pop out on this set. I can definitely tell the difference between this tv set and my old one.
Another great feature is all the additional content the TV has. It has recipes with step by step pictures, teaches you how to stretch massage etc. I can't say enough about this tv. I highly recommend this tv especially if you own a PS3 and or blu-ray player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung LED B7000 beat the Sony XBR9 in picture quality, August 19, 2009
By
Austin (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung UN40B7000 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV (Electronics)
After having a Sony 27" CRT and then moving up to a Samsung LCD LN S3296D in my bedroom I was ready to move up to a 40" inch TV. The Samsung S3296D picture was amazing but I wanted a bigger size and 1080p picture quality vs the 720p in the Samsung. My dad currently owns a Sony 46XBR2 and my brother a Sony 40XBR4 and every time I look at their TV's I couldn't believe how better their TV's were compared to my Samsung but yes their TV's are 1080p vs my 720p but the features and the look was better. So I decided even before I began my search that I wanted the most current Sony XBR TV. After some research I fell in love with the new Sony 40XBR9 in paper the TV is amazing 1080p, 240hz motionfow, Bravia 3 Engine video processor, 24p True Cinema and 100,000:1 dynamic ratio, much better than my current Samsung S3296D. When I walked in to my local Best buy I looked at other LCD TV's and none could match what the Sony XBR9 had until I came across the Samsung LED 46B7100. The Sony and the Samsung was right next to each other and the picture quality of the Samsung was much better the color just popped out and it almost matched all of Sony's features and inlcuded Edge LED, 4ms response time, 3,000,000:1 dynamic ratio and yes it is only 120hz vs the 240hz on the Sony but you couldn't tell at all on fast pace scenes. BB didn't carry a 40" B7100 but I found out that Samsung made a 40B7000 that were sold by Amazon same features but the only difference was the bezel color. The price on the Samsung was less than the Sony so it didn't make sense why I would pay more for a picture that wasn't as good, so I decided to pick up the Samsung over the Sony even though I had my mind already set but sometimes you have to go with what looks better to you in person vs what is written on paper. Now both my dad and brother look at my TV and can't believe how far LCD TV's have gone in just the last 2-3 years. The Samsung LED TV is only 1.2" thin and can connect to the internet via Samsung Linkstick and the picture quality beats any LCD TV's out at this time, I'm sure in the next few months something newer and better will come out but for now, no LCDTV can match the features and picture quality the Samsung LED B6000,B7000, B8000 in my opinion.

One last thing I also purchased the Samsung 2.1 HT-WS1R sound bar as the speakers on Samsung LED aren't that good but once I connected the sound bar it didn't make a difference actually the standard speakers on the TV was louder than the sound bar and the wireless sub interfered with my wireless Wifi network so I retuned it and purchased the Sony HTC C100 and couldn't be happier. It meets my requirements and the sound is much clearer and louder than the Samsun. The Samsung looks better but in my opinion we should always go performance over looks and the Sony out performed the Samsung in the sound bar category.
