3D Technology Checklist

This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires:

A Display
First, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession.
A Source
Your display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system.
3D Content
3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game.
3D Glasses
For now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands.
HDMI Cable
To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

If you want to get more information about 3D, shop our 3D products, watch videos, or interact with other customers, we invite you to visit 3D 101, our customer center about everything 3D.

Although there is overlap, each manufacturer offers a unique bundle of free or paid services, including streaming video and music, social networking apps, online photo galleries, news and financial updates, weather info, sports scores, and a variety of other smartphone-like applications.

Manufacturers continue to add new content to their offerings, keeping customers current through firmware updates, and making a bit of research a prudent step in your buying decision.

More Screen, Less Frame

Cinema-quality 3D experience

3-Dimensional TVs add new depth and dimension to create larger-than-life experiences. 3D Active Glasses sync up with the 3D TV to produce 3D images that virtually leap off the screen. Favorite shows can even be transformed to 3D in real time for the ultimate "reality" TV.

Slim and Stylish LED HDTV

LED backlighting is not only more energy-efficient than its CCFL counterpart, it allows for a slimmer television design, allowing the UN55D6500 to check in at just over an inch deep without its stand. Samsung's ultra-thin bezel design adds to the visual appeal, making this display almost all screen, and a worthy addition to most any room.

The UN55D6500 also features Samsung's "Touch of Color" design, which blends a hint of amber color into the traditional piano black bezel frame, for eye-catching style even when your TV is turned off.

Experience cinematic-quality 3D entertainment in the comfort of your living room or upconvert regular 2D programming to immersive 3D.

Easily search for movies, shows and videos via online services and across connected devices, browse the web from your television, chat with friends, and access a wide variety of apps from Samsung Apps.

Samsung Apps is a growing collection of apps specifically built for your TV, connecting you to your favorite digital content like videos, sports, games, social networking, and much more. With web-connected apps on your Samsung Smart TV, you can stream movies from Netflix or Blockbuster, TV shows from Hulu, videos from YouTube, Next Level sports information from ESPN, music from, Pandora and view updates on your Facebook or Twitter accounts. Auto Motion Plus 120Hz with Clear Motion Rate

Auto Motion Plus 120Hz brings action movies and sports to life in the living room, thanks to frame-to-frame smooth motion. This technology eliminates motion blur by calculating the image and inserting it, creating a non-repetitive transition from one frame to the next. Blur is virtually eliminated and clarity enhanced, for smooth, lifelike motion.

Skype on Samsung TV

Enjoy the convenience and connectivity of free, IP-based, picture-in-picture video calls via Skype, right from your couch. Skype is nice on a 15-inch laptop, but it's a whole new experience on a display this size.

1080p Full HD With Four HDMI Inputs

The UN55D6500 delivers Full HD 1080p resolution, for a superb level of detail and clarity in your picture. To connect your sources, four HDMI inputs are provided, for delivering a Full HD picture and audio over a single cable.

Exceeds ENERGY STAR Standards

The UN55D6500 taps into the energy efficiency of LED backlighting, and exceeds the strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and US Department of Energy by up to 50%. That means you get lower utility costs, and a smaller carbon footprint.

Built-in WiFi

Access all your Smart TV features or DLNA network content without the need for a wired connection or add-on device. The UN55D6500 has Wi-Fi connectivity right out of the box.

ConnectShare Movie

Connect a thumb drive or digital camera quickly and easily via one of the UN55D6500's USB ports. An intuitive, user-friendly interface allows access to videos, music, or pictures via the remote.

Wide Color Enhancer Plus

The challenge of any TV screen is to recreate reality through color and light. Samsung takes on this challenge with their Wide Color Enhancer Pro feature. After analyzing each pixel, it stretches them to their 3-dimensional limit. What you get is the entire spectrum of color and luminance for rich, saturated images with intense detail.

AllShare DLNA Networking

For even more entertainment options, the UN55D6500 lets you connect to your home network and stream music, videos, and photos from other DLNA Certified devices (your computer, network storage drive, etc.).

Ultra Clear Panel

Absorbing ambient light, Samsung's Ultra Clear Panel eliminates reflections, boosts contrast ratio, and creates a comfortable viewing environment. Enjoy crisp image details, natural skin tones, excellent shadow detail, and vibrant colors.

From the get go, I pulled thing out of the box, and I was impressed on the thiness. Next I put it on the bezel stand and put it in our armoire and was completely awed at the cleaness and style.

Set Up:
was a breeze, got on my WiFi right away, updated the firmware and away we went.

I hooked up my media PC to it, with over 400 HD movies I have, I ran at least 10 movies on it. First I went simple, TRON with Auto Motion is crisp and clean and lifelike I do not know how you go back to regular viewing ever again. Next I tried 3D and threw in How to Train Your Dragon, and it was so clear and clean and had such good depth perception I was totally impressed.

I have a Plasma TV Panasonic 42" and this Samsung LED kills it, it bar non has better color and clarity without a second thought.

Very clean and very strong however it lacks bass to be expected with its thinness, but sounds great enough to fill a 15x15 room with sound.

The stand:
comes out to far, its a nick pick but I wish at least in the front of it it was short so it didn't come out so far past the screen.

Auto Motion Stuttering:
I love, but if you are streaming, it will stutter every 20 sec or so if you don have a clean connection. Which I didnt, so I went out and bought a Netgear Powerline 500av and it fixed that issue
Found here on amazon( amazon.com/gp/product/B004DVEW8I ).

I purchased this TV from Amazon a week ago and so far I am enjoying it very much. It is my 3rd LCD flat screen over almost as many years as they have been on the market. This is far better the one I purchased 2 years ago. The picture is outstanding, almost too good. Some people who watch it with me say it looks too real and not like a TV and shows detail you were not meant to see. I do not consider that a negative. The SMART TV variety of options including Samsung Apps are fairly good and extensive but sadly do not include Amazon which tempted me to knock the rating down to 4 stars. The set up and use of the apps and other features is not as intuitive as it could be and that probably does knock the rating down to 4 and half stars. Many of the Apps like with apple ipod you have to purchase, others claim to be free but after you connect you have to pay a fee.

The caveat being I have yet to connect a 3-D source or buy the glasses. So I can not review that aspect of the TV. The picture in 2-D is very 3-D as you truly get the illusion of depth because of the picture quality and you do not have to mess with glasses. I will soon take the 3-D plunge and hopefully amend this review to include that aspect.

But if you want a great picture in your bedroom, it is bright with tons of contrast and exceptionally sharp. It is quite glossy and those with light source issues may consider a less reflective TV to avoid reflected light on the screen.

I purchased this just after it came out and the price dropped today. I have every confidence that Amazon who always has treated me better than any other retailer will live up to the price reduction guarantee. Again I will attempt to follow up with this review and let everyone know how that price guarantee worked for me.

Awesome TV! I was a little hesitant to buy it because of the lack of reviews, but really glad I did. This is Samsung's entry level 3D 2011 model, but the only thing indicating that is the price. I'm not sure if you can get a better deal on a 55" 3D capable LED TV.

PROS: Looks awesome, 0.5" bezel makes it look great! WiFi is built-in, so no need to spend another $60 on an adapter.

CONS: There really aren't any, besides being able to tweak a lot of picture settings which can be a burden for people with OCD :)

I have been shopping televisions online for about a month, comparing specs, reading reviews, and looking at places like Consumer Reports and CNET for advice. About all I learned is that it can be pretty confusing. I decided that I wanted to be able to stream movies from sites like Netflix and (because of the location of my router)that I would need a wifi television. I also learned that "wifi ready" does not really mean wifi ready, it just means that the tv is ready for you to spend another $80 or so on an adapter. Therefore this cost had to be factored in. I decided on LED over plasma because of the burn-in issues with plasma.

I had narrowed my choice down to Sharp, Samsung, or Sony. All of them seemed to have an excellent picture, weak sound, and some problems with light bleeding. I was ready to buy a 46 inch Samsung D6000 for about $1000 when I found this D6500 with built in wifi (no adapter needed), 3D capability, 2 pairs of glasses, and a free blue ray player for less than $1200. I decided this was about what the D6000 would cost after I bought the adapter and blu ray player. And I would get 3D as a bonus.

So far, the television has been great. I went through all of the set-up stuff and had the thing connected, firm wear updated, and was watching a program in less than 30 minutes. The picture seemed fine right out of the box so I didn't mess with it. The sound is better that I expected. It is loud enough and the quality is fine for regular programs, but I might add a soundbar later to enhance the movie experience.
