To my surprise and inconvenience it took me a few days to calibrate this screen. The options are limited but not too bad and certainly easy to work with. But I initially had a consistent problem fixing blown out yellows/limes/cheddar cheese colors. At first I was alarmed thinking that perhaps the new and cheaper direct lit technology sacrificed digital dynamic range. And I also had to deal with a seemingly old school 1990's overly red flesh tones problem. I tried multiple EH6000 calibration settings posted on avsforum and multiple review sites but was not satisfied. I was considering returning it.
So I pulled out my Disney WOW calibration Blu Ray. It seemed like I hardly changed a thing, but somehow that calibration did the trick. Everything looks pretty close to perfect now. In the past I never spent more than 10 to 15 minutes calibrating a new TV or projector.
Initial impressions are that our older Vizio SV472XVT has higher end components with full backlit array versus Samsung's new direct lit. However, despite something slightly inferior with the Samsung in overall screen micro-light management appearance, the Samsung beats the Vizio in depth of color rendition. The Vizio might win for watching standard TV dramas and news. But the Samsung wins clearly when watching high depth modern animation like Toy Story movies etc and video games.
The direct lit technology uses fewer LEDs to reduce cost by quite a bit.Read more ›
- Good starter bundle, has everything you need for a 3D smart TV, especially it gives you the blu-ray player
- Great price for a Samsung TV
- Amazing 3D effect
- It makes XBOX games look fantastic
- 3D glasses fit onto my glasses, so no worries if you wear glasses
- Web apps are slow
- The remote controls for the TV and the player look very similar to each other
- Only 2 pair of 3D glasses
= Original post on July/2012 =
This is a new model manufactured in May 2012, the price is decent, and this bundle has all the things you want:
- Wifi support
The only difference between this one and the more expensive ones is that the TV itself does not have wifi, but the blue-ray player does the magic of smart tv work. So if you are going to need the blue-ray anyway, this bundle is definitely a good deal.
I have not got a chance to watch any 3D movie on it, but just playing XBOX games, it has been fantastic. The 55 screen looks awesome, so is the sound.
= Sep/2012 update, after using for 2 months =
I have been using the TV for about 2 months, majorly playing XBOX and watch Blu-ray movies, and it performs really well. I finally got a chance to watch the 3D movie Transformers, and it was amazing. One thing I like about the glass is that it fits onto my glasses too, so if you wear glasses, do not worry, the 3D glasses pair is very light and will fit. I hope it comes with more glasses though.
The remote control's response is good, the only down side is that you will have two similar remote controls, one for the TV and the other one for the player. Sometimes I got confused with one from the other.
I only used the apps inside the player once, and it was very slow. If I ever use it to watch streams, I would use XBOX rather than the player.
- Excellent picture quality
- Plays 3D (blu ray discs as well as online services)
- Reasonably decent 2D to 3D conversion on-the-fly
- Plays movies from USB drive
- Plays movies from DLNA "AllShare" over network
- Unbelievable value for money
- Stand is included
- I was able to use Logitech corded mouse to control bluray player's browser, a huge relief!
- TV is thick when viewed from the sides
- TV has no wifi, but BluRay player has it
- TV has no Apps, but BluRay player has them
- BluRay player is fast to boot but sluggish to respond when changing menus etc
- No way to plug in a keyboard or a mouse at present (future firmware update?)
- It'd be great if the included BluRay player could fit in between the TV and the stand
- No easy way to input text using wireless keyboard or remote app.
Second, compared to my old 51" 1080i rear-projector the picture is simply amazing! Can't wait to watch the Patriots games on this bad boy!
The bundled Blu-ray gets the job done and makes up for the lack of smarts in the TV nicely (how many smart devices does one need anyways?). It had no problems connecting to my home NAS via 802.11g and streamed music, ripped DVDs, and Netflix just fine (I don't have a Blu-ray in my computer so I can only rip standard DVDs). However, when doing anything other than just playing discs, the Blu-ray player does tend to get a little hot.
The menus on both the TV and Blue-ray are pretty straight forward (be sure to adjust the picture settings to your liking); I thought the TV produced pretty good sound for a TV. I was skeptical of the 3D effects, but after watching "Despicable Me" in 3D with the wife and kids I must say I was impressed - it's as good as what you'll see in the theater.
Couple of minor minuses that prevent it from getting five stars: one, the stand is very flimsy and two, even though the glasses are inexpensive I think it should have come with four pairs instead of two.

Nearly three years old, never a problem. Blueray player works fine, the app interface is a little clunky but usable. The 3-D is really good, that surprised me. Read morePublished 3 months ago by Papa Doc

I got this TV to replace an old rear projection 720p TV, so I think even the crappiest of new led TVs would be a step up! Either way I'm very happy with the TV. Read morePublished on July 13, 2013 by Chazeray Delarosa
