At first glance, this TV was substandard at best. But as some of you guys know, HDTVs never show its peak visual potential out of the box....you have to mess around with its settings until you find the picture you are looking for. and YES that could be a challenge!!! i almost gave up on the TV until i looked up some other people's own personal settings....none of them worked for me so i bit the bullet and tweaked the settings for a few hours myself. sometimes you just gotta take matters into your own hands. And after all the tedious tweaking I HAVE FOUND THE PERFECT SETTINGS for both DVR and Video Games/Blu Ray!!! Give these settings a try and you won't be Disappointed! Before you read my settings just know that i like my TV nice and bright. if you don't like it as bright you can always set the backlight down to your liking. i feel these settings give you ultra light colors and the best lows i feel the TV could offer. A perfect blend. Here they are.

PICTURE:
Standard
Backlight 18 (adjust if too bright)
Contrast 90
Brightness 42
sharpness 25 (no more than 30)
color 44
tint G50/R50

Advanced Settings:
Color Space Auto
Gamma +1
Dynamic Contrast Low (or OFF if you contrast is too dark for your taste)
Black Tone OFF
Flesh Tone 0 (no more than +1)
Motion Lighting OFF

WHITE BALANCE
R-Offset 18 (set to 17 if there is still a slight red hue. i noticed a slight red coloring when watching SD films so i set it back 1 notch and it looked fine)
G-Offset 20
B-Offset 20
R-Gain 25
G-Gain 25
B-Gain 25

(if you set your color offsets too high then your blacks with have a Red, green or blue tint to them.

This is a 2014 samsung model tv that has a great picture. It doesn't have the Smart tv function but you can buy a roku or use directv to get those features.

I didn't buy this from Amazon, I found it for $599.99 at Sears.com

Great TV, good picture and I am glad I didn't have to pay for a Smart TV when I am using ROKU 3 with the TV.

Yes this TV does not have an Audio out, but for those of you who prefer sound quality only delivered by a receiver it will not matter.
Some Sound Bars have HDMI in and outputs which alleviates the need for an Audio Out.

Settings.

These are the settings I currently use to tune my TV.
I used the Disney WOW Blu Ray Disc.

This TV has the best picture I have ever seen. BUT for some ridiculous reason Samsung did NOT include an AUDIO OUT feature/port or output. Completely rendering this tv useless for a home theatre system. I thought it had a digital output when I was in the store, but when I got home it was just an ex-link, used to help diag issues with the television. Its unfortunate, for 50 more dollars i would have paid for an extra port, now I have to take it back after learning the hard way.
if you dont like home stereos, you will be fine and this will be a great tv. But if you think you are getting something great for all home audio, think again.

If the picture weren't so good for the price I would have given this 4 stars because of the audio. I chose this TV because all I wanted was a basic 55 inch TV with a decent picture. I don't need a Smart TV and 20 HDMI inputs and all the other bells and whistles so this basic set was perfect. The audio suffices. There are no audio outputs!!!! I wanted a TV I could add a sound bar too, but at the price of this TV I figured I could make the sacrifice. Every now and then the sound gets distorted at a certain frequency but overall the surround setting works for me and this TV is located in a large room in my house.
For the excellent picture and brilliant colors, for those wanting to keep it under $1000, this TV is worth it.
But I still keep thinking that for an extra 50 cents they could have added something as minor as an audio output.

I just can't say enough about the picture quality. I just needed a monitor as I use a Monoprice 4x1 HDMI switch w/ HDMI out to HDTV and optical out to my Bose surround sound to pass-through Dolby Digital 5.1

This is not a touted Smart-TV, but guess what... if you display your laptop onto your HDTV, it doesn't get any smarter than that! I display my laptop via Netgear PTV3000, which works great.

You can't beat this price for a Samsung 55" HDTV! If you want a great picture, BUY IT.

Very satisfied with my purchase for this tv. obviously you turn down all the settings to get a decent picture quilty, watching blurays on this is amazing, as well as playing some videogames!

currently i have mine at
backlight 7
brightness 44
contrast 92
sharpness 20 ( i dont normally use the sharpness that high i had it set to 2 before but there seems to be an issue with the tv and color banding, setting the sharpness to 50 pretty much removes the issue but that is waaay to high and makes everything look terrrible so i settled for 20 that number isnt too high and does cut the banding issue down quite a bit) if you dont know what banding is take a look at this image [...] i could really notice it while on my ps3 home screen if you look the background you can see the banding. its almost as if the tv isnt capable of displaying color depth correctly. I am a videophile and most people probably wont notice something like this until it gets pointed out but at least on my set its there)

color 52

warm2
dynamic contrast off
hdmi black level low
everything else is set to off

i did set the clear motion effect thing just because i actually dont mind the way it looks, some people prefer to turn this off but i dont see it affecting image quality so i leave it on.

there is also some noticeable back light banding on screen when there are panning scenes with a light background. from what i understand this is more or less normal to some degree on all backlit led tv's. coming from an older lcd tv with no such issues i was slightly dissapointed but the banding on mine is extremely light and i can pretty much ignore it, do a search on youtube for led back-light banding and you'll see what i mean.
