2.0 out of 5 stars good sound, but ear hanger is cheap plastic

I liked that the voice was clear, the piece that goes into your inner ear fit in well. So I could both hear well the person I am talking to, but also blocked external noise.
However, the plastic piece that hangs over the ear turned out to be a cheap cheap thing that broke in a week.

Most of this review will be a comparison to the Samsung WEP200.

PROS and Neutral:
-Battery life, talk time, fidelity are all pretty OK, on my Nokia 6126. I can't give you specific times/durations, but it's about the same as my WEP200. It doesn't seem as if there is noise cancellation, but the volume gets loud enough for pretty much all uses. There are no complaints from the other party either - In general, compared to all the headsets I've used, I would give it a A- for fidelity/clarity.
-It seems to be slightly lighter than the WEP200 in my ear, but it could just feel that way since some of the weight is on my ear due to the loop.
-There are 3 (S.M,L) ear adaptors for different size ears, and one other ear "adaptor" that was already attached to the headset - I'm not sure what this is for. The instructions did not mention the use of this at all. The 3 adaptors have a small central hole and 3 holes in its periphery. The one "adaptor" has one big hole in the middle only. I tried putting the Large on top of the "adaptor" and this seems to kind of work, but will fall out. The rubber ear adaptors are thin on the outer ring portion, and are comfortable.
-The headset will stay sync'ed to my phone even when it's charging. With my WEP200, it would un-sync when I put it in the charger. This also means (and it says so in the manual) that you can use the headset while it's charging. (This, to me, was kind of surprising, since most peripherals don't recommend usage while charging)
-The AC adapter is the same as the one for the WEP200, except that the WEP200 also needs the little charging box that the AC adapter will plug into.

CONS:
-The earloop is a thin piece of plastic, and is not adjustable. It does not latch on to the earpiece very firmly, so it can fall out pretty easily. It gets a bit annoying when you try to put on the earpiece and it gets dislodged from the grooves that hold it in place. Mine hasn't broken, but I don't stress the material at all either, so....
-There are 6 skins included, but unlike the Jabra headsets that use true inserts underneath a transparent plastic cover, these are stickers.
-The LED light that indicates status is located on the side, and not very easily visible. This is kind of important to me to be able to check the status at a glance.

So it's perfectly serviceable, especially for its price.

also the so-called personalized faceplating is a joke, it comes with 5 stickers that you can stick on the earpiece... they may as well send a box of crayons...

4.0 out of 5 stars Sounds too good to be true... because it is., November 17, 2008

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung WEP 301 Bluetooth Headset (Silver) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
First off: I like this headset. For $[...], it's an alright deal. It's small, stylish, and pretty discreet compared to older, blocky headsets.

My real issue is with the rebate. Sounds great, doesn't it? Well, I didn't get the "official" rebate insert, which (judging by others' reviews) was supposed to arrive in the box with the headset itself. Despite sending in the downloadable rebate form (why would Amazon offer it if it wasn't valid?) AND THE SERIAL NUMBER FROM THE BOX ITSELF, I was denied the rebate. Basically, if it could happen to me, it could happen to you, so on and so forth. I doubt that it's an overly common problem, and it just so happens that I wasn't - ahem - putting any stock in whether or not I received the rebate. If you are not willing to pay full price for this item, PLACE YOUR ORDER CAUTIOUSLY.

But, returning to the real subject, the headset is fine as it is. I'd like to be a bully and downvote it simply because of the rebate issue, but 1)It wouldn't hurt Amazon's/Samsung's dignity at all and 2)It would be doing a disservice to the item in question. Thanks for reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for (too cliche?), May 6, 2009
This review is from: Samsung WEP 301 Bluetooth Headset (Silver) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I got this for my wife so she'd have something to use in her car to make driving while talking a little easier. After trying it for a couple of days we returned it because we were unhappy with the sound quality on the OTHER end.

THE GOOD:
1. It's very small and light, and very comfortable. It fit both of us very nicely, and we both have freakishly small ears.
2. Pairing with the phone (iPhone) was easy, but I'm beginning to think that pairing is very seldom an issue with bluetooth headsets.
3. The sound quality (speaker on the headset) was good.

THE BAD:
1. The only really bad thing, and ultimately the reason we returned it, is that the person on the other end had difficulty understanding what you were saying. My wife (the one using the Samsung WEP 301) always sounded very distant, tinny, and staticy. I thought it may be because I was listening to her on my bluetooth device (plantronics discovery 925), but other people had the same complaint. I frequently was having to ask her to repeat herself. WE got tired of this, so we returned it and bought a Jabra 4010.

As far as comparison to a similarly priced headset, the Jabra 4010 is much better, in my opinion. While it doesn't fit as deeply in the ear as the Samsung, the sound quality on both ends is great. When my wife is using it, I can't tell a difference between her using the headset and her using the phone.

If you had to choose between the two devices, I'd go with the Jabra 4010 easily...even if it is more expensive (which we paid the same price for both of them).

5.0 out of 5 stars Before, meh. After accidental washing, impressed., December 29, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung WEP 301 Bluetooth Headset (Silver) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I'll be honest - wasn't so jazzed about this item. The earpiece comes off way to easy. Not loud enough. Call quality about average. Then I lost it for 2 weeks. Then I found it. At the bottom of a washing machine after a load. Charged it up on a lark. Expected to chuck it away. It works just as good as before my attempted drowning. That's impressive quality for a $25 Bluetooth.

1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: Samsung WILL NOT HONOR THE STATED WARRANTY!, November 26, 2008
This review is from: Samsung WEP 301 Bluetooth Headset (Silver) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This product will arrive with a flimsy, ready-to-break ear hook. When you attempt to replace the ear hook, which will almost surely break within two weeks, Samsung customer "service" will tell you: 1) they do not warranty the ear hook, even new from the sealed package, and worse, 2) they will NOT honor warranties for ANY products purchased on amazon.com!! I confirmed this twice, and finally argued with the customer "service" staff, so it is not a miscommunication that Samsung refuses to honor warranties on amazon.com purchased Samsung products.

I bought this product 1 month back. The piece is very delicate and the ear grip is much more delicate. It has very low clarity. If I move 10 feet off my cell phone, I find disturbance in receiving. The ear bud is too lenghty and is not that comfortable and is also painfull too have it for more than an hr on the ear.

This product has worked well for the most part. There were a few things that were disappointing. The "fashion covers" are nothing more than stickers, and the ear piece that is supposed to hold this on your ear more or less floats above your ear. I think I would have liked this product better if there were different sized hooks. After all, we dont all have the same sized ears do we? The sound quality is good, and it is comfortable to wear, I often find that I have forgotten that I have it on. Overall I am pleased with this product and would recommend it to others.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy, ill-fitting and uncomfortable, January 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung WEP 301 Bluetooth Headset (Silver) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This is, by far, the worst bluetooth headset I've ever used. The construction is flimsy, and the one-button call is an automatic re-dial of the last number, not speech access to your directory. If you want to get to your speech-initiated directory, you must hold the call button longer. But just a tiny bit longer than needed and the unit shuts down. Save your money for a better unit.

The plastic ear hook is practically useless, when wearing together with the headset, it pushes it off my ear so it doesn't fit snug. decent audio quality. easy to set up
