This is my third try at a bluetooth headset and I've finally found one that I'm happy with.
Tech: It is loud enough that you don't have to put your finger in your other ear, it's easy to tell if it is on or not (blinks every two seconds), the other person can hear you without much interference, it charges quickly and seems to hold the charge for an adequate amount of time, and it automatically picks up the call when you dial out or answer a call. My last Motorola did not do this. You had to dial the number then click either the headset or the bluetooth button on the phone to transfer it. The Samsung does this automatically. (I assume most headsets do this since no one comments on this, but this is an important feature.) Fit: This is the major drawback, it will not fit in or stay in my ear, but there is a simple solution. I am not sure exactly what Samsung was thinking with this design. I have medium to larger ears and I could not get this headset into my ear at all. It simply hung precariously from the small "u" at the bottom of my ear and I actually had to set it for the opposite ear to accomplish this. I am not sure what this little hook thing is or why they call it a hook - it doesn't do ANYTHING. But, I liked the functionality of the headset so much I decided to purchase some Jabra ear gels and see if they would fit. This worked like a charm and my Samsung now fits snugly in my ear canal and never fall out. There is a marginal loss of volume, but it is still adequate. With this fix, I would highly recommend the headset as a great value, and the best one overall that I have tried. It is great for someone who wears glasses too as it doesn't go over the ear.

Best Bluetooth 2.0 Headset,

I own a Blackberry 7250 and this Samsung WEP200 is the best Bluetooth Headset I've owned. I also own a Belkin which is a piece of >>>>. I've tried the Motorola H500 and it's better then the Belkin, but not even close to this Samsung headset. It has echo cancellation (which was a problem with the other two, Echo makes it hard for the other phone user to understand you), an easy volumne control, and a comfortable earpiece. This is Bluetooth 2.0 and it's worth the purchase price.

a note about Samsung customer service,

Did you ever see "Better Off Dead"? Do you remember the paper boy that was stalking John Cusack. Remember what he kept saying? "I want my two dollars." Well, Samsung... I want my two dollar ear hook!
This product, the headset itself, works fine. No complaints. Here's a note, however, about a strange (astounding, really) policy that Samsung customer service has. I've had this headset for a couple of weeks and the ear hook breaks. The headset fits okay without it, but overall, I like the fit with the ear hook better. A little annoying that it breaks so soon, but I think, "No big deal. Surely Samsung will send me another $2 ear hook. I'm well within the warranty period." Guess what! NOT the case. I call Samsung. I explain my deal. The reps says, "Nope. Not covered under the warranty." I say, "Really? A brand new $2 part isn't covered." She says, "Nope. Not covered." I say, "?????????" She says, "Sorry. The only way to get a new one is to pay for one yourself." I press the case a little. She stands firm. "That's the policy, sir." I hang up, completely baffled (and more than a little miffed). Guess what, Samsung. The one I just bought for my wife... It's going back-- unopened. Samsung saved $2 on the broken ear hook (BTW, normal use- no strange ear gymnastics on my part-- I put the thing over my ear and the headset falls off the hook), but lost the sale of the headset I bought for my sweetheart. I'm having trouble thinking I'll buy anything from Samsung if a clearly defective $2 part isn't covered under the warranty. So here's my rating: Product - 5 stars. Works great. Minus 1 star for the cheapo ear hook Minus 1 star for the really baffling policy of not covering a brand new product under warranty. Where's that newspaper boy when you need him?

I've been using the WEP200 with my Blackberry 7130e for a couple of days now and love it. It is super comfortable and never feels like it may fall out despite it's small size. The set-up was easy, the sound quality excellent both for me and the person on the other end of the call. I've tried other Bluetooth headsets before but never found any of them to be as comfortable as this one. The price is great too.

I purchased the WEP200 as one of my wife's Christmas presents. It was paired with a new LG phone offered by Verizon. The unit worked so well, I also bought one for myself. My unit is paired with a Verizon Samsung a990 phone and provides outstanding features and sound.
Before purchasing the WEP200, I was somewhat concerned that the unit would not stay in the ear (it does not have a hook). The units come with three different size rubber earpiece attachments (that easily pop on and off) and, once you find the size that fits you best, they will stay in even when you shake your head up and down or sideways. In practice, the unit is actually much better for users who wear glasses. With some other units, the earhooks and glasses are not compatible. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Got it working with the Cingular Sync aka Samsung A707. People say I sound great on it and didn't realize I was wearing one and I have a car with a lot of wind-noise. Fit better once I cut off the loop. And I can see why people say it hurts after a long time or it may fall off. I don't intend to use it for hours or use it out of the car. So if it falls off, it will fall under the seats where I can retrieve it. The only reason to use it is in the car due to the state law. I turn it on before I drive and when the phone rings I put it in the ear and hit the button. When I'm walking around, I use the handset. Its my first BT device and it does what it supposed to do. Which is handle calls well while I drive. If you are looking for one to wear all day in the mall, this is not the one for you.
Update Dec 12: I came up with a brilliant idea. Feel free to patent it. I went to Verizon Wireless in Circuit City and bought their Verizon black "replacement ear cushions". My ears like felt material better than rubber for some reason. My WEP200 now fits in my ear very tightly (won't fall out) and it feels very comfortable. The rubber covers that come from Samsung are what hurt my ears. I will never wear them again. It still sounds great and since the cushions are black they look great too. My WEP200 now fits as snug as a bug in a rug. And the pain is gone. I can wear these for hours with no ear aches. So this is the solution for me. Glad I thought of it. For those of you have bought the WEP200 or are thinking of it, spend an extra $3 for some ear cushions. Your ears will appreciate it. Mine did.

So far I'm pretry impressed with this unit. This headset is currently paired with a Blackberry 8800.
Pros - 1) Audio - ...is stellar. Yes, its prone to interference, but I've yet to see a unit that doesn't occasionally give you a bit of static (JX10 - I'm looking at you!). Callers were impressed to hear that I was using a headset. 2) Pairing - I've always thought this process to be a bit obtuse, but I guess it drives down costs to have the much-vaunted "multi-funtion" button. I find it annoying. That said, pairing was quick and easy with this unit and it **stays** paired for hours at a time. 3) Fit - Stays paired and stays in my ear for hours at a time. Does it hurt? Heck, even my ears can't stand canalphones. I stand at 6 feet and yet I have the earcanals of a 5 year old, I guess. I don't have a problem using this set all day, but my ears are still a bit sore. Still, this is much better than other models I've used (JX10 - I'm still looking at you!). For the record, I'm using the smallest gel. The WEP200 gives you three different sizes. 4) Price - one of the cheapest BT headsets around. I've tried expensive, I've tried cheap, I've tried middle of the road. So far, the WEP200 beats em all, even when not factoring in the cost. 5) Range - doesn't matter what side of my body this unit is on, it almost always makes a clear connection to the BB 8800. I also use this unit to take VOIP calls via Cisco IP Communicator on my Dell D620 laptop and iChat audio on my Macbook Pro. It gives you just enough freedom to roam. You start loosing your signal at about twenty feet in clear line of sight. Cons - 1) Size - Unit is super tiny! It gets lost in my shirt pocket, my jacket pocket, left on the counter. Annoying when you are getting a call and your headset is still paired to your mobile. Its never a fun scramble, especially when someone important is at the other end. "Hang on a second! I need to find the headset!!!" 2) Charger - Not thrilled about the charger/carrying case, but if it helps keep the size of the headset down, I can't complain too much. I feel compelled to get my wife to buy one, just so we'd have two chargers around the house - one for upstairs and another downstairs. They're cheap enough, so why not? Overall, this is the best BT headset I've ever used in the three years that I've been using them. Good show, Samsung.

Sweet item with a minor pitfall,

This review is from: Samsung WEP200 Bluetooth Wireless Phones Headset - Retail Packaging - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I'm in agreement with the positive reviews already posted here. This item works great and is amazingly small. I have it paired to my Samsung D807 phone and it works like a champ. Instead of repeating the nice comments that are posted in these reviews I wanted to highlight a strange design choice that gave me a bit of a scare and caused me to mark this product down by one star.
This headset comes with a small charging case that you use to carry the headset around when not in use. Once you place the headset into the case and then attach the travel charger to the case it inactivates the headset for the charging cycle. So far so good. The tricky part is that if you open the case and take out the headset and try to use it.. it doesn't work. I had to do some very careful reading of the manual to figure out what was wrong. The instruction manual indicated that you have to unplug the travel charger from the case. The removal of the power source allows the headset to then be available for use. Taking the headset out of the case while the power is plugged in will prevent the headset from working since it is in "charge" mode. This is very counter-intuitive since most electronics wouldn't make a distinction between these two actions. The manual for this item could be a little clearer. The quick start guide gives all of the steps to pair the headset but leaves out a minor detail of entering the default password into your phone during the pairing process. The full manual shows that step. All in all once the owner gets past these couple of pitfalls the device works like a champ and has been terrific.

I just bought this headset (for $80) at CompUSA and found it here for under $50. I thought it was a great buy for $80.... Basically, it has excellent reception (range up to 15 feet) and sound quality. It stays in the ear very well (there are 3 sizes of ear-pieces) and is very comfortable. For the current price, it is a great buy.
Update (4/2007): This headset is amazing. My original one went through the washer and dryer (so I bought another one). After a week of drying, the original one still works! (I don't recommend trying this.) After 4 months, this thing is still fantastic! |
