Active Care for the Active Lifestyle,
By
This review is from: Samsung : WF419AAW 4.3 cu. ft. Front Load Washer - White Chrome
I picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago and have turned into a laundry geek. I went from a top loader to this and have been amazed at how much: less water and soap it uses, longer it takes to run, less lint comes off the clothes in the dryer (gentle), cleaner the clothes are, active care (formerly known as silver care) works.Don't expect to see your clothes sloshing around in water on this or any front loader I have seen. The first time I wondered if it was working as you can't see water. The clothes do get wet, and even better, very clean. I have cut back on the detergent I put in as anything near what the detergent maker says to put in leaves to clothes feeling soapy. Makes sense though, less water would need less detergent. It does take a while to run, around an hour for the normal cycle, a bit over an hour if you say "heavy" on the soil. When I say run, this thing goes through cycles slowly. I don't watch it all the time but sometimes it is sitting, then spins, then sits. Whatever, it works. There are some quicker settings if you really need to rush it, though I haven't tried them. There is very little lint in the dryer lint trap with this washer which I assume means it is taking it easy on the fabric, not breaking it down. I would say it is probably 15-20% of the lint as before (an 80-85% reduction). I have asked other front load owners if they had the same experience and they all seemed to have to think about it but said, yes, less lint. As far as the cleanliness of the clothes, this thing does the job. My whites weren't looking so white before but are coming back around. The active care which uses silver ions to disinfect the clothes does a great job. I do Bikram Yoga, 90 minutes in a hot room, and sweat like crazy. Hot water shrinks the towels and my clothes too much to use so active care to the rescue. It really does take the odor out while using warm or cold water (though living in Arizona the "cold" water isn't all that cold). There is a learning curve with this, one that I haven't completed. You can adjust the water temp for washing and for rinsing, the speed of the spin cycle, extra rinse, extra wash, etc. I didn't have a real fancy top loader so this is all new and great for me. Also, it does take a few seconds as it goes into the spin cycle to balance. During these 2-3 seconds it can seem it is going to be out of balance but it figures it out and smooths out. I'm very satisfied with the washer. I don't have the matching dryer so can't speak to that. Also, two weeks of ownership I have no idea what the quality is. The delivery guy said that Samsung has seemed to do well with the front loaders, then went on to name some other brands that seemed to be trouble. Time will tell. The electronics worry me some but we'll see.

Very pleased, but a couple of negatives,

I'd been a bit skeptical of these "green" machines we're so enthusiastically encouraged to buy. I wondered if any savings in water might be more than offset by electricity usage. But while I don't see a significant difference in the utility bills it seems pretty plain these appliances are more efficient than our old ones were (I didn't do any actual before/after comparisons). I certainly don't recommend anyone replace functioning appliances (that doesn't seem environmentally-friendly, does it?) but when the need arises I think it's worth the higher price. This washer uses a *lot* less water and detergent compared to our prior washer, due to the horizontal design which tumbles the clothes through a smaller amount of soapy water instead of in a huge tub. They also run a *lot* longer, but presumably more efficiently. The electronic interface wasn't as daunting as it appeared at first glance, and it's actually quite easy to use. Since we have a family of four active kids we purchased the larger capacity appliances, but even when running smaller loads it seems worthwhile. They were also plenty tall without adding the platform/storage drawer beneath. We've only noticed 2 negatives: First, dark fabrics that tend to bleed can discolor other fabrics much easier since it's using less water, making sorting an even greater priority. Second, the lengthly rolling motion tends to leave the clothes a bit drier than our prior spinning model did, but for some reason clothes left for even short periods before transferring to the dryer seem to mildew very easily - still trying to figure out why this is happening. (EDIT: It was suggested in the comments that liquid fabric softener may be contributing to the "mildew smell." We've stopped using it and it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.) Also note that you must purchase a different type of detergent for these machines, which is poured into a pre-measuring tray (along with bleach and softeners) prior to starting. But overall, it works very well and we're pleased with this washing machine.

Excellent Washer,

I researched for a week before making my purchase and I am extremely happy with this product. It has exceeded my expectations from the other 2 reviews I've read on here. I did have a top loader with all the gadgets so this one was easy to figure out. We have used all options available and I am more then pleased with the results. I did luck out on the price, since this was an out of the box product, I got it for a 3rd of the price.I agree that it does seem gentle on the clothes, uses less water and everything seems fresher/cleaner. I don't use liquid fabric softener so I haven't noticed a mildew problem. I do however leave the door cracked open when I am finished using it. I am amazed at how much more I can wash in one load. I give this a 5 star review. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a front load washer.

High Tech Washing,

This review is from: Samsung : WF419AAW 4.3 cu. ft. Front Load Washer - White Chrome
Did substantial research on this product both on the Internet & in the discount stores. Physically all other washers look cheap by comparison. The Samsung has a "Lexus" fit & finish. Also appears to be made of higher-grade materials like stainless steel and chrome. Probably another reason this washer is extremely heavy.Hook up is a snap; however, make SURE that you totally remove the 4 packaging bolts at the rear of the machine as this locks in the washer's motion balancing mechanism during transport. Observations after 2 months and 20-30 loads: A) Uses very little water so this will not be a big drain on your domestic hot water system B) Reversing action of drum thoroughly soaks clothes with soap & water C) Use an He detergent as recommended - Do not look for suds as there will not be any. D) Controls look complicated but are actually pretty simple once you have read the instructions a few times E) Look for sales, I got mine WITH the matching dryer for $1,388. F) Auto soap, softener & bleach dispenser makes this a no brainer G) Washer is extremely quiet even on spin cycle H) Clothes come clean & fresh smelling I) Surprised at the load capacity this washer can effectively handle. J) Select a "color" model, as they are the same price as white but look so much better. Happy Laundering!

Does not clean clothes! Bleached & ruined clothes. BEWARE!,

This washer did not clean the clothes! My old washer would get out all my son's stains. He likes to play at the park in the sand. He sleeves normally get real dirty with sand. My old washer would take out stains like that very easy with NO spot treatment. Now with this washer every stain stays. I washed one of his shirts 3 times and the sleeve was still dirty. I started spraying all his pants at the knee's with spot treatment and that has helped but this is ridiculous that I have to do this. Going through every article of clothing looking for stains & having to spray them because this stupid crappy washer does not work. Also after a wash I could still smell my perfume on the just washed clothing it really is the worst washer! Not only does it not clean but every cycle takes FOREVERRRRR! Quick wash is around 38-50 minutes depending on what you do. The sanitize cycle takes 200 minutes... this is ridiculous! The washer also bleached a load of dark clothing after doing a load of white towels with bleach. Samsung suggested I run a cycle between loads.... REALLY! I told them I would not do that and how is that energy efficent if you have to run empty loads after doing a bleach load... GET REAL! Calling Samsung & after a few days of calls and a repair person coming out to find nothing they could fix on the machine... they have agreed to give me my money back. I am NEVER buying a frontload washer again nor a Samsung!!! Don't be fooled by a few good reviews... I finally looked at some other reviews on this washer on another website and other people had the same problems! |
