Series A Samsung owners read this!,
This review is from: Samsung WIS09ABGN LinkStick Wireless LAN Adapter (Electronics)
I have spoke to Samsung level 2 support and wanted to let everyone here know that although Amazon brings this link for this device up when you search for model WIS08BG this device WILL not work with your series A 2008 model TV, not even if your TV was manufactured in 2009 and is a series A! This device (WIS09ABGN) will only work with Samsung Series B TV'S! Don't even try to order it or you will be dissatisfied! The drivers are not compatible with series A TV'S

We purchaced a Samsung Blu-Ray / Internet capable machine. It states it has wire and wireless capabilities. Little do they tell you if you want wireless you MUST purchace this product. No other USB capable wireless adapter will work. Thanks for sticking us with another $75 we didn't expect.

I have the Samsung LN52A-650 LCD TV and the BD-P1600 Blu-Ray player. I have wireless internet access in my house. Initially, I had a real problem getting the BR player to connect to the internet. It would find my SSID but would not connect. When I set the configuration to manual and input all the requested information, it failed the Ping test. After hours of troubleshooting, I found a piece of information on the web, telling me that the SSID cannot have characters or spaces in the ID. I had spaces in the SSID name, so once I fixed that, it connected without a problem. I didn't need to buy a new wireless router. That seemed to be the leading fix for this problem for others on the web. However, I didn't want to go through the hassle of re-configuring a new wireless router nor did I wanted to spend the money on one. In the end, I didn't have to.

I purchased the LinkStick to give my new Samsung UN55B8000 LED TV wireless capabilities. It was very simple to set up and works flawlessly.
My only complaint is that the LinkStick adapter protrudes more than the actual TV. If you wall mount the TV (like I did) with the ultra slim wall mount, it causes the the TV to push out a 1/4" from the wall on the left side. Not a big deal, but thought I'd mention it.

Wow, this wireless adapter could not be any easier to set up! Using on my Samsung BDP-1600 Blu-Ray, I just plugged it in, went to the DVD menu, setup, selected my wireless network which brought up a keyboard to enter my network password. Instantly and automatically, it connected to the network and gives you a code, which you enter on Netflix (just follow the on-screen TV instructions). INSTANT MOVIES! Very good quality. You can get HD quality movies with a type "N" router, but I only have a type "G", but still, the quality is great! If you unplug the adapter and replug it in, it automatically reconnects to your router and Netflix so you don't have to go through setup again.
I highly recommend it for streaming your Netflix movies to your TV (my TV is a Samsung LN52A630)

This really is as simple as it gets. Unpack the LinkStick adapter, which includes a right-angle adapter. Plug it in to the back of the Samsung Bluray player. Turn it on, go to the menu. Voila. It sees the adapter and connects to your home network. Select the correct encryption and password for your access point. It took me just under 2 minutes and the downloads started.
That's the good news. The bad news is Samsung is essentially ripping off consumers by requiring a proprietary implementation of a stock USB 2.0 wireless 802.11 b/g/n adapter you can get for a third the money. The difference? This one has a Samsung tag read by the device that's required by the firmware. If I'd known this when I bought my Samsung Bluray - I'd have bought a different product.

This works, but is far more useful on the Blu-Ray players than on the TV,

I have two of these adapters, one for my Samsung PN50B650 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV HDTV , and one for my Samsung BD-P3600 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player (the latter was included). The adapters work very well on my wireless-N network. They support the WPA2 security that I use, and I haven't had any problems with them dropping signal. I am able to watch 1080p video files streaming from my home network's DLNA server, and 1080p video files from Netflix without incident. I also updated firmware on both my TV and Blu-Ray player using the adapters, and everything worked well.
I did find that my TV's DLNA player service is severely crippled when compared to the USB-playback option, so I would not recommend purchasing this adapter for the TV, unless you are OK with streaming videos without the ability to pause, fast-forward, or rewind them. Bear in mind, you cannot use a generic adapter for the Samsung HDTV's or Blu-Ray players, so this is your best wireless option for these devices. I also hear that these adapters work only on Samsung's 2009 products, and that there is another one available for the 2008 players.

Ridiculously overpriced!,
This review is from: Samsung WIS09ABGN LinkStick Wireless LAN Adapter (Electronics)
This really made me hate the Samsung company. I bought the Samsung player because it listed it has being Internet ready. Little did I know I'd have to spend 2/3 the price of the player to get a special WIFI LAN for it to work and with an air of smugness, their manual states "no other wireless adaptor but Samsung's will work." This in my mind borders on company deception. I will not buy another Samsung product because of this.

Excellent, easy to use!,

I thought this product was excellent! I received it Saturday afternoon, and less than 30mins later, I had both a Pandora station streaming, and choosing instant movies for my queue. This product was almost plug and play in my new Samsung Blu Ray Home Theater System (BD1200). I plugged it in, and the first thing I see on the screen is "Would you like to set up a network" (or something very close!). It should be noted that I dont have any security on my wireless network due to living in the stix (no one is really close enough to 'steal' our internet). Therefore, I had no security key to enter which made my setup much easier. I chose the wireless option, and then found the name of my network (it was the only one) and in a few secs I was connected. You have to setup your netflix and pandora accounts using a computer and enter an access code given to you on your TV screen. As soon as that was completed I was good to go! Also, some have stated that the netflix movie quality is not the best, I disagree. Maybe its not HD/Blu-Ray quality, but I never expected that! It only takes 30secs to upload the movie and then you are ready to watch. The only thing I dont like about the netflix is rewinding. You can choose the scene to rewind back to, but then you have to wait the 30sec for it to upload again. Pandora is great if you know how to use it. If you are a newbie, you might want to spend some time on the internet site before you play with it due to the complexities of the system. Its userfriendly, but you have to know how it works! Overall, I love this product. My only complaint is that Samsung should have included this product in my Home Theater System to begin with!

Enable Your Samsung BD-P1600 Wireless Connection,

This review is from: Samsung WIS09ABGN LinkStick Wireless LAN Adapter (Electronics)
I have been using a bridge to connect my Samsung BD-P1600 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player to my home network. However, I did find that at times it would lose the connection. So, I decided to try out the official Samsung Adapter. Here are my thoughts and opinions:
Pros: - It's easy to install and doesn't require extra wires or cables - It works as described - Setup through the Samsung BD-P1600 menu is quick and painless Cons: - Price is the main issue as there is no reason this could not have been $20-$35 instead of the $80 you'll need to shell out right now. Four Stars instead of Five because of the price issue. Overall the unit works as expected, and if you don't already own a wireless bridge and don't want to run a network cable to the unit, you will be happy with your investment. |
