My older ipod nano is sadly starting to die on me, and so I decided to look around for something new. I am not a fan of the design of the new weirdly small nanos, but I didn't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on an ipod touch or classic. I became very excited when stumbling upon this player, and after much debate, I finally gave in and decided to get the 3.6 player.
I've had it for about a week now, but I am very happy with it. I was mostly reluctant to buy this because I guess you could say I'm "married to itunes". All of my music and so on has been itunes centered for the past 5 or 6 years, so transitioning and working around it is a little weird, but I think I'll just download Samsung Kies or something and see how that goes. I'm really trying to avoid having to use Windows Media Player. This is probably my only big issue.
The screen is great! I've used friends' iphones and itouches before, and this screen definitely is just as good if not better. (Then again, I am definitely not an apple/mac person at all, haha. But I still stand by what I said.) Typing anything on it is a breeze, and since I have skype on mine, sending quick IMs is super quick and easy. It's a very responsive screen, and feels very solid.
So far it's very fast. It hasn't frozen on me yet either. My previous ipods would all often freeze up or need to be restarted. It is still pretty new though, to be fair.
Another main reason I got this was because I can easily make this a 32GB, but don't have to spend the extra freaking $100 for it! This is a MAJOR plus for me. Plus this already comes with a 8GB card in it, and it costs over $50 less than the 8GB itouch.
It stores a lot more apps than my phone can handle (which is only a few), so personally for me this player has been great for me because I can finally download a bunch of apps that I've wanted to.
And, another personal plus for me, my player came preloaded with Angry Birds, one of my big addictions. And it's much faster than my older android phone can play it.
Oh, and it didn't come with those awful, uncomfortable ipod earphones I hate so much! So now I have a decent pair of back-up earphones that I won't dread using when the time comes.
My only other annoyance (besides my itunes thing) is where the power button is on this player, because I'm so used to an ipod's hold button being on top of the player. But that's no big deal, really. I'll eventually get used to it.
All in all, move over ipod, you've got pretty tough competition. This is really a great MP3 Player, and I am very happy. Thank you Samsung!!
UPDATE 9/7/12: I just downloaded DoubleTwist thanks to a suggestion by someone who commented on my review. It totally solved my itunes problem! And it was SO easy too, and automatically transferred my music into it from itunes, I didnt have to do it myself or deal with it taking hours to load. It was immediate, and when I plugged in my Galaxy Player, DoubleTwist immediately recognized it. (Keys player was pretty bad too, so I'm so happy that DoubleTwist exists!) My itunes problem is pretty much gone now, and I'm very happy.

This review concerns the 3.6 Samsung Galaxy Player.
I was initially torn between getting this or the 4th Generation iPod Touch. I've wanted the iPod Touch 4G for the longest. However, and the more I thought about the Samsung Galaxy Player series, I began to slowly be more convinced about the SGP 3.6 over the iPod Touch 4G. Its dimensions are only slightly larger than the iPod Touch 4G.
Okay. The SGP 3.6 may not be beautiful. It may not have the awesome Retina Display of its Apple rival. It may not be shiny and beautiful. You may give up a lot to the iPod Touch series in comparison to the SGP 3.6. But in all seriousness, you are not giving up much of anything because this device delivers the goods even at $50 US dollars less than the iPod Touch 4G. It has solid sound quality and sounds great whether with headphones or from the 3.6's mono speaker. Having the full compliment of the Android "Gingerbread" interface as well as the Google ecosystem is just enough to keep you entertained. Enjoy the full compliment of apps from the Google Play store. You can also enjoy WiFi access. People complain about and call this a phone. It is NOT a phone- it is a dedicated portable media player. So don't hate on this device just because it isn't a proper smartphone. Also, feel free to add extra storage by sticking in a microSD card of up to 32GB for even more storage.
Here are my only disappointments with the Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6... (1) its display is more than serviceable, but you will have loads of trouble trying to see its screen in broad sunlight. (2) Its USB cord is very short- it is about maybe three feet short. I may recommend you get a longer USB cable that is compatible with the SGP 3.6. (3) Do not use this as your replacement camcorder or video camera. Instead, reserve the camera and video features for quick videos to post to Facebook, Twitter, Tout, or whatever. Pictures appear muddled and softened. However, color reproduction is very okay. Images just lack sharpness. (4) Finally, while the 3.6 Samsung Galaxy Player has 8GB, actual usable space is about 4GB. So you may want to buy a microSD card in addition to the SGP 3.6 if you want to add more material to this device.
Long story short, people have complained heavily about the SGP 3.6 model, ranging from its display to how it handles cerain types of media. If you just want a portable media player that you can enjoy about as much as an iPod Touch, but you don't want an iPod Touch, this is a tremendous alternative as long as you are willing to make some sacrifices. If you want an iPod Touch, get one. But if you want a just-as-good (if not better) alternative to the iPod Touch series, you can really do no wrong with the 3.6 or any other Samsung Galaxy Player model. The Samsung Galaxy Player range delivers on playing media and gaming even if they lack all of the pretty features of the iPod Touch series. Even the refurbished SGP 3.6 I bought here on Amazon is an absolute joy to use. I want the 4.2 Galaxy Player eventually, but this SGP 3.6 is just as good.

I brought this Samsung Galaxy for my 10 year old daughter, as an alternative for IPOD Touch. I am extremely satisfied with the product after having for more than a month.
This product is very easy to use, my other four year old daughter is also use very easily.
It has good sound quality as a MP3 player and all other features are also works very good.
I haven't tried Google Map yet.
