Great little player for the price,

I purchased this not too long ago. I needed something lightweight and with minimal functionality for exercising. The sound quality is wonderful and when you turn it off, it does not start at the beginning of the playlist again like some annoying flash players. It looks nice and sleek. I felt very cool carrying it.
While there are not many buttons, after reading the manual I found that I could get too my personalized playlists pretty easily. Additionally, there is a recorder and an FM player. It is very light and very rugged. I played it off and on during my vacation and did not need to charge it until the 5th day. It is well worth the money...However, I got it for about $10-$15 less at Best Buy.

Good enough for the price,
This review is from: Samsung YP-U2JXB 512 MB Direct Insert USB Digital Audio Player (Black) (Electronics)
I've had this digital audio player for about two months, and for the most part, I've been satisfied with it. I chose it because it was inexpensive yet had packed into its small and seemingly rugged body a wide variety of capabilities: FM radio, audio recording, and multiple format music playback. It's easy to load music onto it, takes only a short time to power up, and the instrument interface is easy to use. However, the screen quality is very low. After only a month, it developed white dots on the screen. It's still possible to read the menu text, which is fortunate because screen damage isn't covered under Samsung's 1 year warranty.

Nice mp3 player/flash drive,
This review is from: Samsung YP-U2JXB 512 MB Direct Insert USB Digital Audio Player (Black) (Electronics)
Overall, I am quite pleased with the performance of this device. I had if for about 8 months, and aside from a couple of glitches, it has worked very well. I lost it a couple days ago, but bought another to replace it, which is nice since now they are much cheaper.
The glitches may have more to do with user abuse than inherent problems. That said, this player is extremely rugged. I've dropped it several times, and it even spent about 10 minutes in the washing machine before I remembered I left it in my pocket. I dried it out in a desiccator at 98 degrees for a couple hours and it worked like new. The two glitches were minor, but worth mentioning. One is that if the battery was totally dead, simply plugging it into the USB port wouldn't charge it. I had to plug it in first, and then turn it on. It would send a signal to the computer that it was there, and then begin charging. It wasn't a big deal, but it took me a while to figure it out. The other problem was that sometimes when using the fast forward function the player would turn itself off. This might have been a side effect of the washing machine incident, but I'm pretty sure it happened before as well. Some nice features include that it charges very quickly and will run a long time on a single charge. The FM tuner and voice recorder functions are nice to have, but I rarely used them. Half a gig isn't much space, but I never found it to be insufficient since I mostly listen to radio shows and delete them after listening. The flash drive works well too for storing files.

I bought this MP3 player when I was a high school sophomore. I am now a college senior, and this little thing is still kicking.
I admit, I no longer use it for music playing - it records lectures so well, that it's primary function is to record all my classes so I can go over them later in the day. I can sit in the back of the classroom (nearly 30-40 feet away) and it still will pick up the professor as if I'm sitting in front. Overall, this player has worked wonderfully for me over the years. I have actually gifted three of them to friends who use theirs too to record lectures. They have had no problems with it either. I originally paid 120 dollars for it, but now you can pick these players up for 10-15. They are well worth it, and I can plug it in any computer and pull up the voice recordings. I keep mine on my keychain. It still does play music too, if I'm inclined. My only regret is that I didn't pick it up in a 2gb size.

Worked fine until it it popped apart from the battery swelling,

I had my charging and noticed the case was coming apart and could not be pushed back together. So I took it on apart and found the battery had swollen up so much that it forced the board up and the case apart. It was an OK player while it lasted.

Bug fix,
This review is from: Samsung YP-U2JXB 512 MB Direct Insert USB Digital Audio Player (Black) (Electronics)
This device is just another MP3 player amongst many but with some flaws. The size is fine for the small price of under 20 bucks but nothing higher. There is a bug in the device that after so long its not accessible via usb to computer. to fix this you need to update its firmware. There are many online tutorials to resolve this, just research the model number and firmware update. Should be about 9 steps. Overall an ok product but another example of why "top" names are not always better.

After only a few weeks, the device is working well so far.
The only real problem that we've had we were able to work around. I tried to follow the instructions for loading music using Windows Media Player per the instructions. I did this while showing my eleven year-old daughter how to put music on the device. I've been encoding our music into ogg files. Even though my Windows Media Player recognizes the ogg files and was able to put them on the device, the device did not seem to recognize them. So, I used WinAmp to put the files on the device and all was well.

The USB is much easier than F'n around with a USB cable to charge or sync. I think the blue l.e.d. light for the clear cap is fun and you can program it to off/random/ or when pushing buttons. The screen is small which is why I think it can be tricky to navigate the songs. You can program a playlist or set it to mix play to avoid messin with the controls. Overall super easy to use, very lightweight, and best for a backup MP3 or casual use.

This is my first MP3 player, very simple to use. I received it as a Christmas gift. I had it for about 3 months and I too was having problems with my computer recognizing it. I called the 800 Samsung number, got to speak with a real person right away. The Samsung Support people asked me some questions, and then suggested I send it in to be repaired (warranty covered all repairs). I had my player back within 2 weeks....good as new!
