The author's g-g-g-grandfather, Samuel LOMAX, lived from 1762 to 1833. He was born in England, came to America as a young boy, was a Minute Man in the American Revolution, lived for a while in Georgia and then moved on to central Tennessee. Some of his descendants remained in Tennessee, others moved on to Arkansas and Missouri, and ultimately have spread across the continent. This book documents that family and the allied families of BROADAWAY, BROWN, CUDE, DEPRIEST, EDWARDS, HAM, HINSON, HORNER, HUFSTEDLER, PICKETT, RICHARDSON, THOMPSON, WARD and WILBURN. It includes 10 generations with 3406 persons indexed. There are 219 source references and 24 photographs (largely of persons from the 1800s).
This is the first of a series of books. Each is about a Lomax immigrant to the American Colonies and as many of his descendants as could be found. All of the persons included in each book are related either by blood or by marriage. None of the persons in one book are found in any of the others. Biographical information and remembrances by both contemporary and modern family members are included for many of the individuals with a few letters and writings dating from the Civil War era. Each book includes the author's research on the origin of the family name, comprehensive genealogy information, an index to all persons contained therein, and the sources of all significant facts are fully referenced.
