Samba-dy get me a soda...,
This review is from: Samurai Samba (Audio CD)
This is one of the Yellowjackets' least remembered CDs, but still good nonetheless. From this album came a lot of the innovative world music influences observed in later albums (most notably Wildlife from the Four Corners CD).I had this one on vinyl a long time ago, but haven't replaced it with a CD yet. Good to listen to, but not in a hurry to get it back into my library. Peace Out.

A tight piece of work,

Good tunes, snappy rhythm section. Reminiscent of Spyrogira but with more complex flavors. I had this in vynil and regretted not taping it. Now I am going for the CD version.

Another Masterpiece!,

What can you say? This is yet another outstanding piece of work from four masters of rhythm and melody. From "Homecoming" and it's jumping, running rhythm and sweeping melody to the smooth "Daddy's Gonna Miss You," every tune is a keeper. While this collection isn't as good as Spin, it ranks right up near the top of the YJ collection essentials.

Pure California music,

I first listened to these guys on the Star Trek IV soundtrack, and I can still feel the magic when I listen to those tracks 15 years later. Now I find Samurai Samba in my local thrift store, and the magic continues. Rest assured, I'll be ordering more from these guys soon!

not very complex from the sax end,

I can hear some really good sax from the yellowjackets, and this one just seems kind of slow. It sounds like a lot of keyboard sampling and easy Kenny-G'ish tones, very pop. I have had a chance to listen to other Yellowjackets releases though, and they put this one to shame. Thumbs on your own octave keys people.

If you're a Bob Mitzer fan, you probably won't care for this album. This is one of their earlier albums and they hadn't "found" themselves yet, IMO.

I have loved listening to this group for over 20 years. The music is uplifting and flexible to your mood and can even change your mood if you allow it to. It's a great expression of emotions in music. Enjoy!!! Jazz baby Jazz.....
