4.0 out of 5 stars Samurai Shodown controls and a 3-D look, November 28, 2000

The game overall is very good. Although only a few characters are available to play as compared to Samurai Showdown 3, the ones there are quite well done. The characters as a whole are balanced with the exception of Humma who seems to have an advantage due to the damage he causes. Specials do exists and effects are done in good taste (they are better then the Street Fighter Alpha EX series). The story mode is cool, the graphics to the cartoon pop-up windos are a nice touch. Some of the enemies can be a bit repetitive in the story mode, and I love the fact that the spoken language is in Japanese with english subtitles. Overall, I would recomend this game. As my friend who plays with me would say, if you love the look of the Bushido Blade series but don't like the one hit kills, then this game is just for you. I like it, although I still wish for more hidden characters as well as for more playable characters from the very start. Do I regret buying it, the answer is no. I still prefer this game then to the Bloody Roar and Dead or Alive series (two comparable games IMHO)

I used to have this game when it first came out. Now regretfully given it up years ago, I want it so badly now, but the cost of this "dis-continued" game is so much, I can barely think of spending more then 20 dollars for a used game.

This game separates from the other Shodown games, because its using polygonal graphics instead of the typical animation/Street Fighter theme cartoon. Fortunately the game is justa as wicked and fun as all the other ones. For those players that say the game is too tidious and difficult is not a true Samuria fighter, because I have played all difficulty levels and still loved it and the challenges are so unpredictable. The story mode is hard, but thats the challenge, and yes there are many times where you have to fight an opponent more then once, but the one slash kill move is "BOSS!" They took a new direction, but am happy to say they went back to the original format with 3,4 and 5.

I must get this game and keep it for life! A great game and one the best ones yet, right up there with Samurai Shodown V!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too good, April 24, 2000

I have always liked the Samurai Shodown series, but this one is a great disappointment. The 3D graphics are horribly polygonal, and the gameplay itself doesn't offer anything new. The battles are tedious, and sometimes near impossible to beat! 2-player is okay, but if you want to buy a fighting game, try something else.
