3 or 4 of the best 1960's Tunes!,
By
This review is from: San Francisco Girls (Audio CD)
I still have the original LP FEVER TREE from 1967, and those tunes comprise most of the first 10 songs here. Given that this is a practically unknown album and band, some of these orchestral based songs are as timeless as you can get for the music of that era! Listen to UNLOCK MY DOOR, COME WITH ME, SUN ALSO RISES, and FILIGREE AND SHADOW (before this song turns into a loud psychedelic blaster). One would be hard put to find such a fine group of folky, lavishly done songs from any era. Even the lyrics are miles above most of the silliness from that era. And strong vocals to boot! Much of the rest is second rate, which is why I only give 4, and not 5 stars. Still a near masterful CD which easily stands the test of time!

great release from a great band,

this is their debut release from 1968. fever tree originated from texas even though their sounds are very much in the california/psychedelic vein. i could almost list 9 of the 10 songs as my favorites, as it is that good. the bonus material was from that late 70s when michael knust re-formed the group for a couple of releases as dennis keller is not on vocals on the live songs. there is also a radio commercial from the houston post that is kinda cool. i find all four of fever tree's output from '68-'70 to be quite excellent. only thing missing is the incense!

Fever Tree - 'San Francisco Girls' (Gear Fab),
By
This review is from: San Francisco Girls (Audio CD)
Not so much as a compilation, but a worthy reissue of the Houston psychedelic band's debut 1968 lp plus seven unreleased bonus tracks. Liked both versions of "San Francisco Girls", the catchy "Man Who Paints The Pictures", "Party Anytime" and the CD closer - a true rarity, "Houston Radio Commercial" adverising their upcoming concert for Saturday night way back when. Might be aimed toward the completists and die-hard fans but this CD is still worth checking out.

"Fever Tree " was one of the classic bands in 1968-1970. I wore out the grooves on 2 vinyls. Then cassettes. Then alas, no CD's for years. Now, "cool and groovy", I have the CD...and I am thrilled to tears. This is music that can truly carry you away. Thank you Amazon for the fast shipping & thank you Fever Tree for all the memories. Peace.
