4.0 out of 5 stars West Coast vibes Saturate San Fransico Sessions Vol 3, October 11, 2000
This review is from: San Francisco Sessions Vol 3 (Audio CD)
This is classic garth, bottom heavy bass injected with mushroom melting chords. Slow chugging working into a electic house mover. This is a cd for a real house head, who can appreciate dub influences....this will be stuck in my cd player for weeks to come. And this cd actually has a nice chunck of actual san fransico made tracks, compared to it's predessors....No wonder the talk of the town is the House sound of S.F.

5.0 out of 5 stars San Francisco must be a cool town, January 24, 2001
This review is from: San Francisco Sessions Vol 3 (Audio CD)
This CD is not exactly like it's two predecesors mixed by Mark Farina and John Howard, respectively. It is funkier, less Mushroom House and more funky house, with a lot of soul!! It is different but no better or worse than the first two San Francisco Sessions CD's, and thus is definately worth having in your collection. At first I was a little hesatant getting into it, but the song "Rise on up and Walk" and the one after that kept it in my CD player long enough to listen to it more and gain apreciation of the rest of the album. This is some excellent west coast house that nearly anyone can and should love!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd love to hear him live, February 4, 2003
This review is from: San Francisco Sessions Vol 3 (Audio CD)
I can only imagine what his fans feel when DJ Garth throws on another vinyl.

I've long been a fan of DJ Garth and owned all the mixes of his I could find. This particular mix is unique to what I've heard from him. Dub heavy has always been a trait of Garth and the ability to throw your mind into a parellel universe is another trait so very few DJ's can pull off without giving it all away to some candy raver record that DJ's often seem to have a producer's gun pointed at their heads to spin(or they are shamfully silly in their track selection).

The Chicago style house and LA style hum-bug that too often leave a semi music concious crowd waiting for an actual soul to be behind the decks are honored to have Garth on thier side.

This mix takes us to some tropical island of great psychedelic, penetrating blackness where we gather with the native tribe for a drum circle that our pineal glands seem to alone play and lay us down revibed and refreshed into our realitys.

Thats as good as I can put it. Thanks again Garth.

Garth's selections are excellent. The CD moves beautifully from one track to another, from some stomping tech-house into mellow deep house and back. Garth definately knows how to put together a set that has direction and emotion - the heart of house music.

DJ Garth of Grayhound Recordings makes sort of a guest appearance for Om Records to create this delicious eclectic mix. The third installment of the successful San Francisco Sessions and a great follow-up at that. Garth, co-founder of the Wicked Crew, starts the "journey" off with some perfect downtempo reggae and eleganty mixes in some great dub infested house tracks. Although he uses simple fading techniques, the track selection is brilliant. Most are dubbed tracks but that only enhances the great eclectic atmosphere he has set in store for listeners. They work very well together and show a noticable slow change. The house first starts off with some great, jazzy dubbed out tracks and so slowly merges into some great tribal house. Then finishes off with a great work by Santal in "Past and Future Things". Overall, this is one trippy dubbed out mix that can only be done by DJ Garth. Put this into your CD player and experience it to the fullest.

4.0 out of 5 stars West coast House "in the house", March 6, 2001

This is a real funky house CD. The beats are tight and deep enough to boom the speakers in your jeep. This sounds very much like the house sound of the west coast ie: Doc Martin. If you like house music with some kick and a light latin flavor then this will do nicely. "Burnin" and "Dave on Guitar" are two of my favorites on this CD. The mixing is good and the variety is wide, not just straight house from start to finish. A nice addition to any house music collection.
