SanDisk 8GB Cruzer Micro Skin Flash Drive

I have owned many flash drives in the past but have always preferred the SanDisk Cruzer® Micro Skin USB Flash Drives. They are small and seem to be sturdier than the other models with the retractable USB port. I was very happy to see that SanDisk didn't retire this model and finally released it in 8GB. They are still a bit pricey, at the time of this review, but I imagine the price will come down like all flash drives do as the capacities become larger. Amazon not only carried them but had the cheapest prices. If you are looking for a small, sturdy flash drive with good capacity this is it.

I've used this flash drive at home and work on a number of different operating systems. Mac OS X at home, Windows XP and Red Hat Linux at work and it has worked flawlessly for me.

I own three of these drives and have never had a problem. Soft case is comfortable, easy to grasp, and prevents scratching other equipment. Quick read/writes. One drawback is that the drive does not include a lanyard. For portable storage, SanDisk has never let me down (compact flash, SD, and HCSD).

These cruzer-micro's are smaller than the "plastic" micros with the retractable connector. They are actually limited buy the size of the actual usb port. They couldn't possible make them thinner. They are made of metal so they are very durable. I've had a half-dozen of these in daily use for almost 6 yrs. AWESOME DEVICES. They are so thin you can plug them into adjacent usb ports without blocking the one next to it.

This little flash drive works with Windows 98 SE and Vista -- just what I needed to transfer files from an old computer to a new computer without setting up a network connection. I also have tried a Toshiba 8 GB flash drive which is absolutely incompatible with Windows 98 SE.

Works great I even downloaded software to make it a U3 drive and love it. It's size really comes in handy when you don't have that much space to use a USB port and it's less likely to get hit sticking out the side of the computer. I love it.

I love this flash drive! Small and durable, and the soft case rides nice in the pocket without scratching anything up (like my phone).

I have owned several of these drives, and like another reviewer have had mine go through the wash and dryer and still performed flawlessly. Additionally, because they are small you can fit two of them into side-by-side or top-and-bottom stacked USB ports ( I have had problems with other, larger thumb drives in that would crowd out the other USB port). Rock solid. I really love this drive.

I have liked the cruzer line for years, but it failed me with this one. My cruzer died a sudden and total death one morning after making a large file transfer in what seemed like not enough time for the transfer. I always click on the green arrow and stop the device before I pull the flash drive out, so that wasn't the issue. I sent the drive to a service for recovery, but they were unable to recover anything.

Oddly, my 256 MB cruzer is still chugging along just fine after many more years of daily service. Hopefully it was just a fluke, but it was painful to lose my data suddenly.

The size and portability of the device is great. The encryption software is annoying and I promptly remove it from all of my cruzers immediately after purchase. The light that goes out indicating it is safe to remove the drive is a nice feature, but the new slow pulsing light feature when the drive is doing nothing is annoying.

This thing is tiny, tiny enough that occasionally I check my pockets, it's in there, and still I don't find it. I can also be pretty absentminded. This has resulted in it going through the laundry several times. Once it went through the washer and dryer with the skin and cap on, and was perfectly fine. Two days ago it went through the hot water, extended wash for rugs and blankets in the biggest industrial machine at the laundromat. Still fine! No file loss! All the work in progress for my final for a CAD class in college-- completely intact. I love this thing.
