5.0 out of 5 stars Tough little bugger...
I use my Cruzer Mini constantly at work. It's great for quick data transfers, small utilities, drivers or patching systems that are off the network. It's slim and lightweight enough that I tend to drop it in my shirt pocket and forget about it. You probably see where this is going...but yes, it's been run through the washing machine at least four times. What may be...

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Slow
I've used two brands of USB Flash drives, Lexar JumpDrive and Cruzer Mini. Of the Lexar brand I've used both Usb 1.1 and Usb 2 drives, and I have to say that the Cruzer Drive is closer in speed to USB 1.1 than the stated USB 2. Of course, this is in relation to transfers of a large number of small files. The Cruzer Mini can handle large files fairly well. (Although, it...

(Although, it is still slower.)

For example:
-------------JumpDrive 2.0 Pro.....Cruzer Mini 2.0...Lexar JD 1.1
1 71.7GB file......7-8 sec............16-18 sec...........199 sec
28MB 916 files....96 sec..............470 sec.............555 sec

(Note, these are write speeds)

The numbers speak for themselves. The Cruzer drives are clearly closer old USB 1.1 speeds than USB 2. They're nice and cheap, but if you want performance, I'd suggest something else.

It's slim and lightweight enough that I tend to drop it in my shirt pocket and forget about it. You probably see where this is going...but yes, it's been run through the washing machine at least four times. What may be even more impressive is that it's been run through the dryer three times (once I did catch it after being washed and saved it from the dryer, allowing it to air dry instead). It still works as well as the day I took it out of the package, never missing a beat.

We purchased a number of Cruzer Minis to pass out to employees at work. Everyone has been totally satisfied with the ease of use, the data transfer speed, the security features built in, and most of all the 2 MB of storage space. The SanDisk Cruzer Mini is a quality product and is definitely worth the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, 3 Mb/sec write speed., March 2, 2006

This review is from: SanDisk Cruzer Mini 2GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ2-2048-A10, Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
The price is good for a 2 GB flash drive when compared to other flash drives of the same capacity. Well manufactured and haven't had a problem of any kind.

I'm actually surprise to read the other reviews about this flash drive. Yes, the drive is slow. The write speed is between 3-3.5 Mb/sec on my desktop, a regular Linux Fedora 4. Depending on the type of flash memory the usual speeds for flash drives are between 4-8 Mb/sec, with some getting up to 24 Mb/sec, appointing this drive as slower than usual.

I've tested the speed in different ways to get some real numbers. I timed the process of writing every byte in the drive by means of "time dd if=/dev/urandom of=/media/usbdisk/bigfile bs=1024 count=1955200 & watch -n 1 df". This gave me 10 min 0.988 seconds which means aprox 3.2 MB/sec. Writing a 226 mpg file was done in less than a 1 min. I still haven't tested the read speed in terms of real numbers but I feel it should be at least twice the write speed.

I go to this lenght just because I find puzzling the slow speeds some other reviewers had. Maybe I have a new revision of the product but I have no way to check it.

At the end of the day this was an inexpensive, rather slow, but completely usable flash drive. I'm happy with it.

When I was shopping for a flash drive, I saw that someone complained about the slow speed of this drive. It almost scared me away from buying it, but now I'm glad I don't believe everything I hear. This is the fastest media I've ever used, and if someone has one that doesn't run fast, the problem is with their own system or files. A hundred megs in the blink of an eye is plenty fast enough for me. I'm a hands down believer in the SanDisk Cruzer Mini 2GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive. Stop looking, cause you just found the best buy.

I bought this drive from a local electronics store. It is WAY too slow. I have a PNY 1 GB that this replaced, and it is easily 10 times faster than this slug. I just tried re-formatting, and so far it has taken more than 15 minutes to copy less than 400 MB. There is obviously something wrong with this drive. I am going to return it for a different brand.

The word Mini really fits this storage device. The narrow body allows me to plug this into all USB ports my computer and hardware supports. Even if there is another device plugged into the USB port next to the Cruzer Mini everything still fits. Small size, fast data transfer, and 2 GB of secure data, what more do I need?

5.0 out of 5 stars Sandisk Cruzer Mini, January 19, 2006
By
This review is from: SanDisk Cruzer Mini 2GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ2-2048-A10, Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
I've Used Sandisk Cruzer Mini's since they were making the 64Mb version. Sandisk is sinonimous with quality. Friends of mine have bought other brands and have them fail, while my Sandisk's keep functioning flawlessly.

If you need alot of space in a nice portable package the 2Gb cruzer is for you. This thing is about as wide as a wristwatch wristband. It is very light, and you can carry it on your keychain, in your pocket etc...
Setup is as easy as plugging it in. Windows 2000&XP will recofnize it immediately.

NOTE: As with most flash drives Windows 98 will require extra drivers, but they can be easily found on Sandisk's Website.

I haven't actually timed the transfer rate but as it is USB 2.0 , its pretty speedy when transfering large quantities of files.

It's one of the best flash drives out there and I trully recommend them for IT Guys as for the standard user.

Best Flash drive in my opinion out there today.

3.0 out of 5 stars One big problematic non operational flaw, May 23, 2006
This review is from: SanDisk Cruzer Mini 2GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ2-2048-A10, Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
I low the functionality of these drives. They work great and are always recognized by the systems I use them on. I really wanted to rate this higher but cant get past the horrible design flaw that the caps never stay on long. I went thru the 3 caps it came with in about a month. They come off way too easy - lost them all.

I bought it in March 2006. It failed in April. Returned to SanDisk with an RMA in April. They have not sent me a replacement till now. Their customer service is really bad.
