They changed the blue LED to amber...yuk!, January 4, 2009
This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Cruzer Titanium 16 GB Ultra Cruzer Titanium Drive SDCZ7-016G-A11 (Silver) (Personal Computers)
The familiar Blue LED is now Amber just like the cheaper plastic Cruzer's have.
The finish is distinctly more silvery instead of the matte titanium design. It appears that the casing is no longer made of Liquidmetal® as were the 8/4/2gb models.
Ti Cruzer continues to ship with U3 Smart Technology enabled. However the majority of users choose to remove this using the U3 removal tool provided by Sandisk.
The 16gb no longer includes a pocket clip or lanyard but neither did the 8gb models.
The performance is unchanged compared to the 8GB model at 15MB/s read speed & 9MB/s write speed.
It appears that Sandisk decided to cut corners with the latest Titanium.
I would have rated this flash drive a 5 Star had Sandisk left well enough alone...

expensive, but durable, December 29, 2008
This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Cruzer Titanium 16 GB Ultra Cruzer Titanium Drive SDCZ7-016G-A11 (Silver) (Personal Computers)
I buy the titanium cruzers because they're sturdier than plastic USB drives. I also own the 4GB version and never had to worry about it getting broken or even dinged when I dropped or stepped on it. This drive is similar in appearance to the other titanium cruzers, except that its LED is orange.
I verified that it doesn't require drivers on XP or Vista and is assigned a drive letter in Windows explorer.
The 7" x 0.5" x 5" dimensions listed are the dimensions of the blister pack, not the actual product. The cruzer's dimensions are 2.25" x 0.25" x 0.75". It doesn't extend much past the keys on my keychain. Just for reference, most house keys are 2" long.

Well-built USB flash drive, May 28, 2009
This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Cruzer Titanium 16 GB Ultra Cruzer Titanium Drive SDCZ7-016G-A11 (Silver) (Personal Computers)
Most USB flash drives can do the basics: store data and transfer it quickly. The SanDisk Titanium does a great job at it. More importantly, the drive feels solid, unlike so many USB drives that feel like they'll be crushed in your pants pocket when you sit down. While I haven't tried running it over with a car, I've dropped it, tried to snap it in half, and other potentially nasty stuff, and the drive shrugs it all off.
Bottom line: get a SanDisk Titanium if you actually *care* about keeping your data safe from physical damage.
