They changed the blue LED to amber...yuk!,
By Derek Diamond (Austin, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Cruzer Titanium 16 GB Ultra Cruzer Titanium Drive SDCZ7-016G-A11 (Silver) (Personal Computers)
The familiar Blue LED is now Amber just like the cheaper plastic Cruzer's have.
The finish is distinctly more silvery instead of the matte titanium design. It appears that the casing is no longer made of Liquidmetal® as were the 8/4/2gb models. Ti Cruzer continues to ship with U3 Smart Technology enabled. However the majority of users choose to remove this using the U3 removal tool provided by Sandisk. The 16gb no longer includes a pocket clip or lanyard but neither did the 8gb models. The performance is unchanged compared to the 8GB model at 15MB/s read speed & 9MB/s write speed. It appears that Sandisk decided to cut corners with the latest Titanium. I would have rated this flash drive a 5 Star had Sandisk left well enough alone...

I buy the titanium cruzers because they're sturdier than plastic USB drives. I also own the 4GB version and never had to worry about it getting broken or even dinged when I dropped or stepped on it. This drive is similar in appearance to the other titanium cruzers, except that its LED is orange.
I verified that it doesn't require drivers on XP or Vista and is assigned a drive letter in Windows explorer. The 7" x 0.5" x 5" dimensions listed are the dimensions of the blister pack, not the actual product. The cruzer's dimensions are 2.25" x 0.25" x 0.75". It doesn't extend much past the keys on my keychain. Just for reference, most house keys are 2" long.

Most USB flash drives can do the basics: store data and transfer it quickly. The SanDisk Titanium does a great job at it. More importantly, the drive feels solid, unlike so many USB drives that feel like they'll be crushed in your pants pocket when you sit down. While I haven't tried running it over with a car, I've dropped it, tried to snap it in half, and other potentially nasty stuff, and the drive shrugs it all off.
Bottom line: get a SanDisk Titanium if you actually *care* about keeping your data safe from physical damage.

Not even close to the advertised speed - It takes forever to read and write files to this thing. Blue light or amber light doesn't matter if you have to watch it for so long - they're both bad. I have a 8GB and I'm going back to it.
Writting a large number of files, it seems to just stop to catch it's breath, even with write caching enabled. Very disappointed with SanDisk for this. Up until now, I've been very happy with the 4 other Titaniums I have If I can't return this, then I'll give it to my son.

The SanDisk Ultra Cruzer Titanium USB flash drives are my favorites of all the USB flash drives. The reason is the wonder feel they have. They feel like they are made solid. They are also one of the faster drives. I've bought alot of USB drives but notice I keep going back to these. So I figured I'd just buy a large 16 GB and never have to buy another again (yeah right!). Good metal feel, not that cheap plastic feel. It is also a U3 drive. Buy this drive, you won't be unhappy. Also I got it for almost half it's list price from Amazon!

I own three SanDisk Cruzer Titanium flash drives (two 8gb and one 16gb). I highly recommend these products over other flash drives I have used. The retractable USB connection is an added plus over a "cap" which one can easily lose. Second, the durable titanium case makes accidental breaking unlikely. Third, the slightly heavier weight (over a plastic flash drive) makes it easy to tell whether or not the item is in your pocket. The products have not yet failed, and I use them daily on a frequent basis. I got this 16GB drive to replace my 4GB Cruzer titanium, which was fantastic. Since it was a Cruzer Titanium, I thought that it would be just as good as the 4GB but it is not. The 16GB Cruzer is VERY slow. When I work on saved Publisher files, it keeps hanging up and takes a long time to save. I also use the U3 technology and mainly run Firefox. On the 4GB it zooms while on the 16GB, it crawls. It keeps hanging up and takes very long to switch between tabs and load the pages. When I scroll down, it slows down. I am very disappointed in this product. The outside shell is smoother than the previous models, but it does not mater. Even the orange LED does not matter. The main problem is that this drive is so slow. SanDisk can make a great product, as the 4GB, I don't know what went wrong here. It was so bad that I went back to my 4GB and breathed a sigh of relief. I also purchased the 8GB titanium, on which the reviews were great. Don't waste your money on this drive!

This is my third Cruzer Titanium drive, and the first where SanDisk changed from the blue light to amber. I could handle the color change if it didn't constantly get brighter and dimmer. Other than that, it's a solid, fast drive, as with the others. However, the finish is not quite up to par with the 2GB and 4GB versions.

I loved this flash drive and I'd had one for a long long time. I was just around the 3 year mark when I lost it and it was mainly due to the products design. I kept it on my key chain and it stayed there for awhile. Eventually the small metal loop it came with bent and I nearly lost it. I replaced this with another one but eventually that one bent and I lost it for good. If only the key chain loop was built INTO the body this would be the perfect product. However, the durability is only as strong as it's weakest link, in this case the actual one connecting it to your keys.

I had planned to get a USB flash drive and went with the larger 16GB because my computer crashed not long ago. I know you can burn photos, etc to discs but it's just such a hassle. I was fortunate to save all of my photos, music & documents but I didn't want to take another chance. This is perfect. I can keep all of my photos & music with more then enough room to spare for future add ons & even videos. Simple to use, there are already folders set up for music, photos, etc and it has a set up for running programs with your computer. The light is amber but that doesn't bother me. And it's so small but yet seems to be very sturdy! I have no complaints!
