Pro-Level Performance for Multimedia, Gaming, and More

The SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD is designed to give power gamers, developers, and media professionals pro-level performance in the most demanding situations. Innovative nCache Pro Technology delivers sustainable performance with super-fast read and write speeds as well as long drive life. The SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD 240 GB (1) is the ideal choice for demanding professionals and enthusiasts who need ultra-fast results and effective multitasking for resource-intensive games and applications.

Designed to Keep Your Data Safe

Housed in a durable aluminum case, the SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD has been engineered to resist shocks and vibrations, preserve the integrity of your data, and prevent data loss -- so well that it comes with a 10-year warranty. Dynamic and static wear leveling help extend the life of the drive, while over-provisioning and over-clocking ensure consistent performance even under the heaviest workloads. Other features include bad block management, which prevents uncorrectable memory errors, and thermal throttling, which protects critical drive components against extreme temperatures.

Ultra-Fast Write Speeds and Safer Data with nCache Pro

The SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD contains nCache Pro Technology, which optimizes your computing experience by balancing all-out speed with long drive life. A large, non-volatile write cache consolidates small writes to boost random write performance and the long-term data endurance of the drive. This technology from SanDisk is designed to mediate how modern-day operating systems and flash memory interoperate. The result is ultra-fast response times and seamless multitasking even in the most resource-intensive applications.

Quiet, Stable Operation and Low Power Consumption

Unlike traditional hard disk drives, solid disk drives contain no moving parts, making them cooler and quieter and less likely to fail. Plus, SanDisk SSDs consume less power than standard 7,200 RPM hard drives (2) so they're more energy-efficient and can provide longer laptop battery life. According to a SanDisk research paper, an SSD can extend the life of a laptop by up to 33 percent (3).

Very good and fast.

I have always had great experiences with SanDisk flash and SSD memory products, and especially so with the Extreme Pro series.

In addition to speed, a solid state drive is totally silent, no whirring disk, no mechanical delays, no moving parts at all.

I put together a 4790K system, very fast, and for the boot drive I researched SSD's and this came up as the fastest or nearly so, the overall fastest SATA drive I could buy.

This machine is used for a little bit of everything, but a common use is photo, audio and video editing and rendering. Presently, I actually have over 30 TB of stored files available and this is why I use a smaller, faster disk to work from, because a 1 TB SSD won't help me much and a 2 TB HDD is about $80 instead of $550. So I have the need for speed when I spend a few hours editing these files and this...is the drive used and it can't be too fast.

I currently use many SSD's, Samsung 840 Pro's, Intel 530's and Crucial M500's, all in different systems though. This would be why I didn't start with telling you how fast it boots, that change only applies when you clone from a HDD. Unless you know what programs are being loaded at startup and many other variables, I don't see the relevance anyway and have never timed booting. I like all of these drives and can't say any of them feel slow, so my first instinct told me to buy the newer M550, until I thought to myself that if I'm going with the new 4790K on a new Z97 board with 2400 MHz RAM, why not spend the extra $40 on the latest drive also. If you go read Kristian's review at Anandtech, he certainly makes a good case for it and so do the other articles about this SSD.

The specs aren't so different from the other drives but if I've learned anything from earning a living working with electronics the past 30 years, specifications need to be all inclusive and then interpreted and we rarely get enough data.

Blazing fast and easy to install. This took away my last excuse for not regularly backing up my data. It's so speedy that it takes only minutes to create an image and store it on another SSD.

The 10 year warranty clenched the deal for me. I doubt I'll be using this same drive a decade from now, but knowing the manufacturer has faith it'll last that long gives me confidence my data will be safe.

This is one of the best purchases I've made in a long time. Highly recommended!

The drive works great and is very fast, but a couple comments- It arrives unformatted so remember to first format it when installing it. Second if you want to register the drive with SanDisk write down the serial number before installing the drive. While the SanDisk web registration page says enter the "Product Code" it actually requires the serial number. I found this out after installing the drive and did want to then have to disassemble the computer. While some companies put the s/n on the box, SanDisk does not. Also no software is included and must be downloaded from the web. As is common these days, the installation instructions are skimpy and in very fine print.

This was a cinch to install, but it still took me awhile to figure out what I was doing. The other reviews were very helpful, along with the SanDisk support website. I wanted to install this SSD on my Dell Inspiron i15R-1632sLV 15.6-Inch Laptop, which has been pretty good for the most part. However, it takes forever to start up—there seems to be a lot of Dell bloatware that it could do without.

So here is the process for installing this on a laptop:

1. Obtain a USB to SATA adapter cable.

I did not realize I needed this to hook up the SSD for cloning until after step 2 so I had to wait a few days after I ordered it.

2. Clean up and back up your hard drive.

The SanDisk SSD 480 GB is smaller than the hard drive on my Dell (750 GB), and I had a lot of photos, videos, and music taking up a lot of room. So first I cleaned up my hard drive and got rid of junk I did not want anymore. Then I backed up my personal files, including all of those aforementioned photos and videos, before deleting them from my hard drive.

3. Clone your existing hard drive.

After I received the cable, I downloaded Macrium Reflect cloning software from download.com. I considered buying the software recommended by Sandisk, but other reviewers recommended Macrium Reflect. It also got good reviews from CNET. Macrium was easy to use, but it took a while to clone my hard drive onto the SSD. Plug the SSD into your USB port using the adapter. My computer at first did not install the driver for the SSD until I unplugged another USB device that was pulling power from my computer. Of course, keep your laptop power supply connected during this process—don’t try to do it on battery power.

Sandisk has some advantages in the SSD market as they really understand flash storage - after all they've been making flash chips for a very long time. In fact a Sandisk compact flash card I purchased 16 years ago is still working just fine in one of my retro computing projects.

I produce a lot of video reviews where I use SSD drives for recording what is essentially uncompressed HD 1080 video. If the drive performance isn't consistent, I will find out (the hard way) when my recording device complains and I lose what I was working on. In fact it's always a risk starting off with a new drive because those performance inconsistencies don't always present themselves in the first 20 or 30 minutes of recording.

After filling up this drive with some recordings, erasing a few, and adding new ones I can say this checks the boxes I need for reliability. It's fast and consistent, delivering very fast writes and equally fast read speeds when I pop it out of the recorder and into my computer for editing. In fact it's so fast that it tops out my current external thunderbolt drive adapter at 3 gigabits per second in both reads and writes. So I haven't hit the speed limit yet for it, but I can say it exceeds the Intel 520 drive I have been using.

The best part is the warranty. 10 years - yes an entire decade. That's unheard of outside of very expensive enterprise hardware. Given that I'm still using some of my Sandisk gear 16 years later it's great to know I will have a working product one way or the other for a very long time.

One little gripe related to its construction: my recording device requires a full height SSD drive for the best fit. This, like many other SSD's, is a bit shorter than that.
