5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, tiny, reliable memory
I have heard that 32x SD memory performs pretty much as well as the the SanDisk Extreme III cards do.That being the case, you can save about $10-$15 per gigabyte card by purchasing the cheaper 32x offerings.

Then again, SD memory is just becoming the top choice among manufacturers, and even though CF cards are cheap, fast, and durable, they are losing ground...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as fast as I'd hoped
I was doubtless too optimistic. Replacing a standard speed SanDisk 1 GB SD chip in my Kyocera Finecam SL400R, I see no speedup of CCD transfer to this chip. And no speedup of USB transfer time either.

I have heard that 32x SD memory performs pretty much as well as the the SanDisk Extreme III cards do.That being the case, you can save about $10-$15 per gigabyte card by purchasing the cheaper 32x offerings.

Then again, SD memory is just becoming the top choice among manufacturers, and even though CF cards are cheap, fast, and durable, they are losing ground to the SD format at a rapid rate. If you have a camera that requires an SD card, get this one. SD will be around for a long time to come, and this card is a generation ahead of all others in terms of speed, and is built to near bullet proof standards. Even if your current camera seems happy with a 32x card, the Extreme III card is four times as fast for just a few more Dollars, and will still be ready to serve when you buy your next generation of digicam. I have two one gig Extreme III cards for my Canon S2 IS digicam, and they have been flawless to date. It is a real treat to know that my digital media can read and write at twice the speed of my current camera, as the SanDisk cards will still be leading edge when I replace the the Canon S2 sometime in the future.

I intend to buy more Extreme III 1 gig cards as time goes by. One gig in still mode is plenty for a two week vacation worth of still shots, but the awesome movie mode on the S2 calls for more memory, and the SanDisk Extreme III delivers the goods in a big way.

One last note. The CF card is the most mature of the lot, even though it is being abandoned by the industry due to it's larger size. Still, it is pretty small overall, and several will fit in your wallet. You can buy an ultra high speed CF card of one to four gig capacity for a song lately. As they get cheaper, buy them. Any cheap $14 card reader will let you use them as storage on your PC or Mac, and they offer great bang for the buck.

If you have a device that requires an SD card though, buy the best on the market. The SanDisk Extreme III is the best you can buy today. Nothing else even comes close.

Works great so far. Very fast. With the Canon S-80 I can fit about 700 shots on this at the 5 megapixel setting with normal compression.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great deal !, October 14, 2005
Bought two of these for my Canon PowerShot S2 IS (one from Amazon) based on the review above. For where I'm from (Kuwait) this is a great deal because the regular SanDisk 1 GB SD cards are selling for the same price (not the Extreme III high performance ones). No complaints so far. Haven't tried any other cards with my camera, but these cards provide a lot of storage space for stills and up to 7.5 mins at highest resolution for video, all with great performance! Definetly recommend this for Digital Camera users.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Memory Card, June 26, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this card as a back-up for pictures at my granddaughter's wedding, and it ended up being my primary card because a)it definitely is faster than my other card (also SanDisk, but the UltraII 512MB), and b) because of the large size: it held all of the pictures - and then some. The additional speed is VERY noticable. No problems downloading etc. I can recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and reliable, August 12, 2006
You'll never notice the speed difference with this card until you have to switch it out with a slower one. The difference is like going back to dial-up after being on broadband.

I REALLY like this little jewel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good buy at this price point, June 29, 2006

Six months ago, this card was $137, this was the the best price I could find. It has now become reasonable with the advent of the 2G and 4G cards.

It has almost doubled the speed at which I can take stills and has increased my card to comp transfer speed by almost the same (depending on reader).

Even though my original intent was to buy the most reliable SD card, the speed increase is a very pleasing side effect.

You do need a camera and card reader that can take advantage of the high speed, many cameras can't and most card readers won't (unless labeled "high speed").

I take pics all year long, here in MN, and need the quality that the Extreme advertises....so far...so good. We shall see...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cards if you can dish out the dough, March 11, 2006
These cards are the best on the market in terms of their tremendous Read/Write speed which relates to faster picure capture and more accurate pictures when shooting in burst mode. These also have the ability to work in many different environments (hot, cold, etc). Amazon had these at a great price. They retail for $140 each and I was able to get two of them for $160! Highly recommended.

I running Mac OS 10.4.7 with a Canon PowerShot Pro Series S3 IS 6MP camera. The Scan Disk has performed perfectly. The upload speed is impressive, I recommend this memory card without hesitation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great and is very fast, August 26, 2006
I bought this card to take pictures at my wedding. It works great, is high capacity, and very fast. I didn't think I would notice the difference, but I do. I bought one for my wife's Kodak too. With her regular speed card there was an annoying 5-second lag in between taking photos. With this card the delay isn't even noticeable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better performance, delivered, June 3, 2007

This review is from: SanDisk 1 GB Extreme III SD Card ( SDSDX3-1024-901, Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
SanDisk promises that the Extreme III SD card delivers enhanced performance, and they deliver. This card replaced an Ultra II SD Card of the same size, and the latency between shots on a Canon A710 IS when waiting for the camera to write the picture to the SD Card is much improved with the Extreme III over the Ultra II. The retail version that I purchased also comes bundled with some software (I haven't used the bundled software) and a handy padded case for SD Card cases. I highly recommend this product.
