This is the fourth clip of various models that I have owned. I have been extremely pleased until this one.

The device quit working after about six weeks. Would no longer turn on. I went directly to Sansa for a replacement. Their phone system was off for the weekend so I tried the chat line. After chatting of about 40 minutes with the slowest responding chat person on this earth (I suspect he was chatting with others at the time he was chatting with me), he finally agreed that my device was broken and recommended that it be returned to the vendor. My feeling is that the vendor did not manufacture a defective product and I wanted it replaced by Sansa and requested an RMA. At that point he quit responding at all and eventually disconnected, and put me back into the chat queue.

When the Sansa phone lines were active again, I called and went through a similar process over the phone, but this time much quicker and far more helpful. The lady I talked to agreed that I needed to replace the product, but she could not issue an RMA. I had to speak to someone else. She transferred me. A minor miracle occurred when the transfer actually worked. Normally I get cut off during a phone transfer. The man I talked to was very helpful, and promised he would issue an RMA, but first, he had to generate three e-mails to me. One of which would produce a prepaid label for me to return the defective product. He could not replace the product until he received the defective product.

I tracked the return package and it was received at Sansa on December 27th. I received my replacement on January 12. I expected to get a complete replacement that would include matching earbuds, but all they sent was the clip. That was all that was broken, but I felt it was a little chintzy.

My needs were simple; I wanted an MP3 player for my running addiction that could be loaded and play music back in an order that *I* specify from a Linux operating system (Fedora). Is that too much to ask? Apparently in a world (still) dominated by Windows and Mac OS, it is. The iPOD line (from the shuffle on up to the Touch) fails in both regards, or at least refuses to allow you to add music from Linux apps once you use iTunes. I wouldn't mind having that at a reasonable price either.

But not completely. The Sansa Clip trivially and transparently lets me add music in album and playlist order - it's a simple drag-and-drop operation. Playback is easy enough - the screen interface is small, but rich. The sound quality through my previously purchased (Sony) earbuds is as good as you could want.

And 4 gigs of memory seems huge after living with 2 gigs for so long. That, of course, is just the beginning - the memory expansion card will give me 16 gig more, should I ever need it. Oh - and now I have FM radio, too.

Jogging is once again a joy.

I'd give this item 5 stars, but it's too early to tell if the device is rugged and will stand up to 5 mile jogs 3 times a week. I'll give it a tentative 4 for now.

Ok, this is my third clip. the first one went batty on me, it would lose all of my songs, the titles were still there and the disk still read like there was info on it but when you hit play, there was nothing, then at times everything would just vanish... Poof, all gone completely. that happened one too many times and so I smashed it. Then I got a newer version, much nicer, had an on / off button instead of the switch on the side that was hard to push up. I have that one in my truck. the ONLY con to it is it has a square controller instead of the round one the older clip had, its harder to "Feel" where your pressing and often hit pause instead of next or back...but it turns on alot easier and plays every bit as good and so far, no lost files! Then I got this Clip Zip for home use.. again, not too different in size or sound but thats where it ends.. the whole interface has changed, its got cover art, a color screen and a few more options.. but, it takes forever for the music to start playing when you turn it on. its not fast like the others... you turn this one on and wait like almost a full minute or so for the tune to start. other than that, its pretty good. will just take a little getting used to.

This mp3 player got a lot of positive reviews. I did a bit of research before purchasing, and finally decided to try it out. I received it quickly, it was a bear to get out of the box. It came with ok ear buds, an installation cd for rhapsody, and a (very short) usb cable. I installed the cd alright, and plugged it in. The player would not stay on, and my laptop said that it failed to identify the device. So I got a hold of Sandisk, and a nice rep informed me that I needed to upgrade the firmware manually on the device. After a lot of button mashing, we accomplished that and the player seemed to be working. I charged it and put it away. Two days later I finally had time to try and load songs, and the player would not turn on. I plugged it into the laptop and it wouldn't take a charge either. I was very disappointed, it was a cute player especially for the price. I did like the idea of the removable media card as well. I returned it, very disappointed.
