Sandisk CF 8GB Extreme III,
By TG "TG" (Michigan USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SanDisk SDCFX3-008G-A31 8GB Extreme III CF Card (Personal Computers)
I started using the Ultra II cards and they are rated at about 9MB/sec and they are slow for my shooting style/use. I upgraded to the Extreme III which at the time they were rated at 20MB/s and they worked extremely well. The NEW UPGRADED versions of these cards are rated for 30MB/s, make sure you select these and not the older 20MB/s rated cards as the cost is the same and no harm in getting a little extra for no additional cost. This card is outstanding and have no complaints, considering how much they have dropped in price since they have been released it is a win/win for value/capacity/performance across the board.Always make sure after downloading your pictures to re-format these cards IN CAMERA before re-using them and they will provide years of trouble free performance. I have dropped them (they have the scars to prove it) and still perform without a problem. For downloading the pictures from the card I recommend the Extreme III card reader, downloading files is a breeze with it! If you are considering the IV version FIRST make sure your camera can SUPPORT IT (not all cameras can support the speed so it will be a waist of money on your part). You can always order this card from Amazon and if you need more speed then return it or keep as a spare (ALWAYS KEEP A SPARE CARD NO MATTER WHAT!-they can get lost, damaged and running around looking for a memory card on short notice can be a pain.-) and purchase the IV. Keep in mind that you will need a dedicated card reader to be able to download files from the IV at "light-speed" and be able to obtain the maximum benefit from it.

Use in Nikon D200,

Sandisk Extreme III compact flash cards (at 30 mbs) are simply the best for use in the Nikon D200. Even in full continuous shooting mode, these cards keep up without a problem. As another reviewer stated, be sure the cards you get are the 30mb per second transfer rate versus the old 20mb per second. The 10mb per second can make a difference when shooting in Nikon Raw at full blast. I have always purchased SanDisk compact flash cards and never had a problem. However, I am hearing that an issue with fake SanDisk cards is developing and some have even reported possible, yet unconfirmed, issues with third-party provider on Amazon. To date, I do not think and allegation has been substantiated. Just be aware of this developing problem and steer clear of non-reputable online merchants. I bought the cards at $41.00 on Amazon.

You simply don't need a faster card inless you are shooting 9+ frames a second, all day every day.I've shot at 8 Frames with my D700, with no problems. I bought two of these about a month ago, with no problems what so ever. Well built, fast, easy to use. What more can you ask for? The only 'slight' problem I've had was actually with amazon not the card, they told me it'd be here on whatever day it was and it showed up late. No problem could have just been UPS?

I have used several brands of memory cards but I always come back to SanDisk. They seem to offer the best balance of speed, quality and price. This was especially true of this purchace because of the extremely low price it was offer for. There is a newer Extreme IV card available that is some faster than the Extreme III but that extra speed might not benefit everyone. I used my new card in my Canon 40D digital SLR to photograph a drifting event at a race track and took over 1500 pictures in 2 days without any need for a faster card. Some may need a larger or a faster card but at this price I can see no reason for anyone to buy a smaller or slower card and you can't go wrong with SanDisk. I have probably owned 20 SanDisk cards over the past few years and I have never had one fail me. I would highly recomend this product and I got it on Amazon for less than half of what it sells for most places.

Using this SanDisk Ultra III *Gb compaq chip gives me more leverage as I take all of my photos in a Raw form which limit's me to less pictures but on the other hand I love the results of the pictures in the Raw.All of my SanDisk cards are 4 GB up tp 16GB From Ultra III to Ultra IV to the Extreme Ducati Edition I give Sandisk a ten plus Peter Cook

Watch for batteries...,

The card works well with older cameras even it is a CF III (e.g. EOS 300D). But be sure that you use a battery with at least 1500mAh, otherwise you will get problems after half filled card. The power is less to provide constant riding and no pictures will be recorded anymore.

This card is fast and works very well in my wife's Canon 40D DSLR. The price was the best for any card of this speed and quality.

Got two of these cards via Amazon for Nikon D300. Nice card, later bought additional card reader -- it is easier to deal with card using card reader rather than to read from camera -- and faster. No problems whatsoever, and now that it has become twice as cheap, I am buying more before going to a next vacation.

I must say that I'm very happy with this 8G Card. It works very well. I'm used to using it several times a week for shooting wild life, portraits and many other things. I have had no problem so far. I highly recommend it to anyone is looking for a good memory card for his/her digital camera. It's a great choice!
