I love a good, cheap, 2 gig USB flash drive as much as the next guy, but this particular case design leaves me displeased. When my boss picked out the god-awful pink SanDisk USB drive, I had to question her reasoning. It turns out the pink SanDisk Cruzer Gator was on clearance and was very cheap.

Perhaps this low price was due to a couple of flaws in design? For example, the metal cap fits poorly with the body of the flash drive. The slats inside the cover grip incredibly tight, so tight, in fact, that during my first attempt to place it on, the cap got stuck. So jammed was this cap that I had to pry it off. In doing so, I damaged the shiny metal strip on the outside (the part that's not pink) with my fingernails. During the tugging I ripped the shiny material right off the side. The shiny strip appears to be glued onto the pink metal, but once bent, this material will not adhere to the metal base correctly again. No matter how much sweet-talkin' you do.

In regard to operating and functionality of the USB flash drive? It works great. However, I'd never buy this product for myself, considering these packaging flaws. Also because it's pink. ;)

It works fine, yet as someone before mentioned, it's unusually harder to remove the cap for some reason. I purchased the 1 gig for a grade school student to use while they were at school (It's the same design). However, I got side tracked by the pretty pink design, and I didn't realize it doesn't have any type of open slot or small hole throughout the thing to even accommodate a carry string or neck strap. For security and misplacement issues, this would be needed for most people, especially a grade school student. This might be simple for some, but for me this is essential. I found this to be a huge disappointing flaw, poor designing.

I bought the Gator because I needed a flash drive quickly. I good price and works great between XP and Vista. I disabled the U3, it was annoying.

Like Ravenjunk I bought the Gator, but the 1GB version, because I needed something in a hurry and trusted SanDisk. The U3 is so much fluff, it shows 2 drives one of which is the U3 hazzerai. You have to use the "disable this hardware" function to unplug it... Huh??

The worst part is the portability-to-lossability ratio: The cap is hard to get off and easy to drop somewhere. There's no ring to hang a strap to or any other means of connecting it to something bigger, to avoid losing it.

I'm getting a grownup drive. Money down the drain.
