Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

SanDisk's ImageMate Dual Reader SDDR-75 is a handy external CompactFlash and SmartMedia card reader that connects to your computer through its USB port. Its two memory card slots let you write data to and read data from flash memory without having to power up or even connect your digital media device (digital camera, handheld computer, digital music player, etc.) to the computer.

It's easy to use--just drag and drop your files. And you'll save precious battery power when you let the ImageMate, rather than your portable device, transfer your files. Minimum system requirements for Windows are a Pentium-class PC with USB support; Windows 98, 98 SE, 2000, Me, or XP; and a CD-ROM drive. Macintosh requirements are a computer with USB support running Mac OS 8.6, 9.1x or later, or OS X v10.1.2 or later, and a CD-ROM drive.

From the Manufacturer

The ImageMate Dual Readers are a family of external flash card readers that connect to your computer through the USB port. ImageMate Dual Readers provide two slots that give you the ability to write data to and read data from flash memory without connecting your digital device (digital camera, handheld computer, digital music player, etc.) directly to a computer.

SanDisk's ImageMate Dual Readers are the fastest way to transfer pictures, music, data and more to and from your computer. There are three configurations to choose from, all with the most popular format; CompactFlash. This model also supports SmartMedia cards.

Quick and easy file transfer ability
When using the USB port, the transfer rate is a swift 950KB per second. This is up to 50 times faster than the alternative transfer option via the serial port cable that transfers data from the digital device to the desktop computer.

Saves batteries--no special AC adapters or batteries required
The ImageMate also prevents the draining of battery power from the digital device. When transferring images from a digital device to a desktop PC or Mac via the serial cable, the digital device's batteries suffer and much more time is needed for this alternative transfer. After the transfer, more battery power is consumed to erase the card so users can continue taking pictures on the same card. With the ImageMate, the device uses power from the computer not the digital device.

Hassle free installation
By installing the system drivers via CD or downloading it from the Internet, the ImageMate appears on the desktop of the desktop PC or Mac as any other disk drive with an icon and drive letter assigned by the system. This setup is easy to do and only takes a few minutes. With ImageMate, the end-user simply ejects the CompactFlash, MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital, Memory Stick or SmartMedia from the digital device, inserts it into the ImageMate, drags the images to the hard drive, erases the card and it's ready for storing fresh data.

Plugged it into my windows 2000 laptop and it just worked!
My compact flash card shows up as a regular hard drive, you can drag & drop em and everything.

It comes with a VERY short cord that folds into it (good for taking it with you) and an extension cord for those of us stuck with rear mounted USB ports on our desktops

Has a nifty little light that flashes while its copies.

Great little device, i'm very impressed.

This was the third memory card reader that I purchased. The first two either did not work or their directions were too difficult to understand. This device is perfect. It can be quickly plugged into the front USB port of your computer or with the extension wire which is included into the rear of your computer. It shows up as a removable disk (E OR F) when the card is inserted and you can then remove and insert compact flash or smart media cards as long as the light is not flashing (active data transfer). This saves on battery power and ordinary wear and tear for your expensive digital camera. The transfer time is also amazingly fast, better than the cameras themselves. I have both an Olympus and a Canon digital camera so this multi card reader is great. Its small enough to take on any trip in a pocket of your camera case (depending upon size) or luggage but its greatest use will be at home when you want to do a lot of work without taxing your camera. What's most amazing however is the price. There is not much you can buy for your digital camera that costs so little.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast speed, low price, portable, works with XP!, March 17, 2003
This review is from: SanDisk SDDR-75-07 CF - SmartMedia USB Combo Rdr (Personal Computers)
I was looking for a SmartMedia reader, and this turned out to be an excellent choice! It is not the smallest reader you'll find, though it is pretty good size for a dual reader, the USB cord can be hidden around it, and it also comes with an extension cord if needed.

The main reason I wanted this reader is to transfer pictures faster than the slow serial cable of my digital camera, and this was definitely a major improvement. It works like charm in Windows XP without the need of installing additional drivers, I haven't tried on Windows 2000 but it is supposed to work with that as well.

I haven't tried it with CompactFlash cards. It is about the same price for a single card reader, so I figured someday the CompactFlash reader may become handy. It is a shame they do not make this dual reader for SmartMedia and Multimedia/SD cards.
