4.0 out of 5 stars Sandisk's Wonder, August 29, 2010
This review is from: SanDisk 4GB Sansa Fuze Video MP3 Player Pink (SDMX14R-004GP) (Electronics)
There is no question about the need of having a MP3 Player wherever you go. It absolutely seems like the best thing for anyone to enjoy all of your favorite songs no matter what goes your way. While so many people are choosing Apple's Ipod as the constant choice, many people don't want all the fads from the gameplay of the Ipod Touch, or the ability to go online via Wi-Fi. Just the simplicity of what a MP3 Player should be about, the music. Sandisk know that feeling, as they've made the best quality MP3 Players for the past several years, and they've shown it well withe the simplest of them all.

Sandisk's Sansa Fuze MP3 Player is a simple and convient way of storing and playing all your favorite music and media files, on the go. The 4 GB is easy to use, and operate with a simple flick of the thumb, as you scroll through the library of MP3 files that you download from your favorite services like Rhapsody. The playback is definitely very strong, but what makes this MP3 Player stand out well is the convience of adding extra songs to playback, all thanks to the added Micro SD Card slot, as it reads well from your extra songs you've stored in a Micro SDHC Card, which extends the variety well, so you don't have to keep plugging it into your computer just to add extra songs. While it handles well, there are couple of disadvantages to the Sansa Fuze. The first one is that the MP3 Player loses its battery life quickly only about 3-4 extended times on the go, which isn't a bad thing. It does have a better battery life than most MP3 Players out there. The second one is that if the battery is damaged, you won't be able to get it changed unlike the Ipod, where others can repair it. Still, it is easy to protect from any damage that can come its way.

All in all, Sandisk's Sansa Fuze is a great MP3 Player for anyday, and any time to enjoy your favorite tunes. While it'll never be able to match the drawing power Apple has shown with its Ipod, it definitely is a great alternative for anyone who is looking for a great alternative for what Apple has cornered in the market. I absolutely recommend it as a great buy, as Sandisk knows for what makes a better MP3 Player for the music lover in you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fine MP3 Player, July 10, 2010

This review is from: SanDisk 4GB Sansa Fuze Video MP3 Player Pink (SDMX14R-004GP) (Electronics)
We now have three SanDisk 4GB Sansa Fuze MP3 Players and have given another one as a gift (to date). We use them exclusively for audio books while traveling in our vehicle and in bed at night when going to sleep as well as in the morning when waking up! They perform perfectly with a rechargeable battery life that easily lasts all night long when desired. A really useful feature is the slot for memory cards that provide up to at least 8GB of additional memory! The Amazon Marketplace vendor providing our most recent unit provided excellent service, including very secure pacaging and delivery prompness.

3.0 out of 5 stars I would NOT purchase from Blue Proton Consulting again!, June 28, 2010

I can only give the Fuze three starts at this time because I really don't know how to use it! Blue Proton Consulting, the company I purchased the Fuze from, advertised on their Amazon page that the unit was new and came in "hassle free packaging". They did not include a manual.

Repeated requests for a manual have been ignored. Yes, four separate emails ignored.

Today I downloaded a PFD of the 44 page manual and will print it up at Office Depot sometime this week.

I will add that I dislike the fact that one must used Rhapsody to manage songs on the Fuze and that Rhapsody keeps downloading songs of their choice (by unknown artists) onto the device. In fact, it came with music already on it (utterly forgettable, insipid songs).

Next time I'll buy another iPod.

4.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS!!, February 25, 2010

This was a Christmas gift for our nine year old dtr. I set it up for her B4 christmas. It was a breeze to set up. I used Windows 7 and did not use Rhapsody like the insert wants you to do. The only thing that hasn't worked is putting photos on the device. When i moved them to the Fuze, only some of them were successfully loaded, others I believe probably needed to be in another format? I did not spend time figuring this out, and still haven't revisited it. We have not used it for videos. Navigation is simple and intuitive. Very cute little thing and nos it's on my wish list for myself! The headphones included work well for my dtr. I ordered the open box unit and it is flawless. It did not charge well on my laptop USB port, but I have read that on a desktop there is no issue and it certainly charges fine with a wall charger. Battery seems to last quite awhile.

3.0 out of 5 stars I Miss My Sansa Clip, January 14, 2011

I often said that my favorite MP3 player was my little 2g sansa clip, that I purchased for less than $40. It was simple to charge with any available USB chord, the clip proved handy for holding onto the device, and the charge lasted a very long time.

It disappeared, and I decided to buy another SanDisk. It was fairly inexpensive, had twice as much memory, as well as video/picture capacity. It could even be upgraded with extra memory, by dint of its micro USB slot. I held out until I found one at a good price in pink.

When it arrived, the first thing I noticed was that the color looked a little different from the picture, and I wouldn't have called in pink unless I added "fushcia." Okay, that was nit picking, but the second thing I noticed was annoying. It no longer used a universal USB chord, but rather a proprietary Sansa chord. Great, one more item to keep track of; they couldn't leave well enough alone?

I had some trouble determining if I had correctly installed the included software, but what really upset me was that doing so seemed to also require installing Rhapsody software. It suggested that not all the features might not work without this software.

I've discovered (once I cancelled this trial $14.99 subscription) that Rhapsody has several packages from which to choose. Perhaps it's possible to have the software without a subscription to the service. I don't need or want one, as I only want this player to use music I already have.

I'm still not certain whether everything will function perfectly without a Rhapsody subscription, but even investigating the other packages required signing up again for a trial, including supplying credit card info. I didn't feel like bothering if I didn't have to; it's too easy to forget to cancel before being charged. I didn't like the fact that there was no mention of a choice of packages until I cancelled my initial subscription. Instead I was just signed up for the most expensive one.

As someone else mentioned, there is an issue with loading videos. I thought I had loaded a number of videos for the player, but for some reason, only two of them have so far installed. There's some problem with the coding, I believe, but the whole thing just seems overly complicated. I've also noticed that some of the pictures failed to load, but I'm not sure how many. Neither the pictures, nor the videos are in obscure formats, so I don't understand the problem.

The music from the machine sounds good, but between the dedicated cable, and the Rhapsody subscription issue, I would have thought twice about buying this device. Once I resolve these issues I may be just as happy with it as I was with its predecessor, but so far, if I'd bought it in a local store, I would probably have returned it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great basic mp3 player, May 29, 2011

I have gifted two of the Sansa Fuze mp3 players in the past couple of years and have to say they are solid, reliable, handy little devices. I wanted to be able to provide a mobile music experience that was accessible to non-technical types, and this fills the bill. Enough options and expandability to grow with you, while remaining well within a limited budget. Admittedly it does not have the fabulous bells and whistles of the glamorous iPod Touch, but no one is gonna "have a heart attack" if it gets broken, lost or stolen either ;)

I have only owned this mp3 player for a month, and it is already non-functioning. The wheel almost immediately lost sensitivity (which then you are screwed) and it constantly freezes up. I am just about to send it back for a refund. My recommendation: just save up and buy an ipod.

The packaging was lacking as far as protection is concerned. The product is cute and bright but came with no instructions and seems cheap. I'm hoping once we get it up and going after Christmas that my teen is not as disappointed as I am.

Is it used? If the product has no box or instructions it should be written in the ad. I gave this as a gift. It looked used. Not happy.
