THIS THING SUCKS!!! I have always used SanDisk products because they were so much faster and better quality. I was really exited that this item would backup with just the push of a button but I was quickly disappointed. Setup was slow, confusing and clunky. The backup time took 2 hr's where as Windows Backup only took 10 minutes to backup the same data. There is an option to pay more $ for an upgraded version of the backup software but after seeing how badly this worked I wasn't willing to shell out even more money. I stripped out all the software and now have an overpriced jump drive. SanDisk should be ashamed of the way they are fleecing the consumer with this product. Save the extra $ and just buy a regular flash drive.

This flash drive is painfully slow transferring files. For example, transferring a 2GB photo card to the SanDisk took about 30 minutes. The backup software is useless on a Mac. Look for a different flash drive.

After literally hours on the phone with SanDisk tech support, they advise that I must purchase an external power hub in order for this device to function on my computer. Even though my iphone and other backup devices function just fine on my usb ports, they contend it's Dell's and not their fault. Nor will they provide any hard data on what makes/models will run their device and which will not. This is very misleading advertising. The device works, they say, just not on your particular Dell computer. Ripoff.

What a waste of money...
The write speed is so slow, it makes the drive unusable. Do your research and buy something better!

I have been a proponent of SanDisk USB drives for a long time. That time has passed.
This item seems to have been whisked straight from production to marketing with nary a glance from a software QA. If you use Windows 7 of any flavor, the U3 application on this drive will not function until you update it to the latest version. The U3 application has to be updated from a Windows XP system according to SanDisk. The update has to be executed four times to update the U3 application for use with Windows 7. Once you have successfully updated the U3 application, the "One Touch Backup" still does not function correctly. I am astounded and appalled that this product has received "Product of the Year" reviews from various sources. I rate this as a 1 on a 10 point scale, primarily for aesthetics(it looks nice), and it works as a conventional storage device(you can copy files to it). If those things didn't work it would get a Zero. If you are looking for a reliable backup device that is simple to use, this item is not what you seek. Given that it costs more for the "Backup Now" button, I am extremely disappointed in the lack of functionality. I will be returning this to the point of purchase for a refund. I did not get it from Amazon, but the units from Amazon have the same issues.

The 16GB space is is what I needed. Having said that the device is not very user friendly. To back up is a long process, I want to be very specific what I backup & the program doesn't let you do that so I end up doing 1 @ a time to get the job done. I don't know what the Ultra & backup button is all about. The regular 16GB Sandisk would have been fine.

I have been a fan of Sandisk as the others have. I have a 4gb jump drive that did my backups but needed more space so I bought this one. It was extremely slow to transfer the files over but since then every time I try to backup it just locks up on me. I also contacted customer support. I could not understand half of what they were saying and they had no idea what they were evening doing. They just kept putting me on hold. I even uninstalled the softer and reinstalled but still no luck. I will be returning this product.

I have been disappointed by the speed and features of this device. The SanDisk website claims that this is one of their fastest USB drives, but I was disappointed by the performance when I tried it for myself. The write times are painfully slow - about 2-3 MB/sec. (The read times are pretty good - about 20 MB/sec). If you want the backup feature, it is only compatible with Windows XP and Vista. And experts won't be happy that it's bundled with S3 software.
I needed something quickly, so I didn't have good alternatives from my local retailer. If I had another choice, I would have passed on this drive. |
