I purchased this mainly for it's reported compatability with a particular router. I did not pay much attention to the description. The drive has far surpassed my expectatons. It not only works well with all of my equipment, it does much more. The backup function was the best surprise. Any time I want to backup I just push the button on the drive and go back to whatever I was doing. It works in the background and I never notice it slowing other processes I am using. I don't remember ever writing a review before, but this product definitely deserves KUDOS. Some may think it a bit pricey but it is actually very competitive or cheaper than other 64 gb drives. If you need a flash drive this size, you will not find better. When I need another flash drive, I know what I will be buying. By the way, Amazon had it to me in a few days even though I selected the free delivery option. Thanks to Amazon for years of snag-free orders.

After I copied over 7 GB's of data to the drive, I noticed some strange behavior when copying some additional files. Certain files would appear to have been copied but no file size or date would show up for those files, just the file name would be in the directory. I gave it 3 stars out of the benefit of doubt that it may have been good for FAT32 use. I returned the drive and decided to go with a larger 128GB Patriot instead, since the price with rebate on Amazon was pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Backup Bonus, August 10, 2010

For several years, I used an internet-based service to back up my files. In part I used this internet-based service because I wanted the extra security of having my files backed-up off-site. During the typical year, I spent approximately $340 per year. After purchasing the SanDisk BackUp Flash Drive for $150, I canceled my subscription to the internet-based service; thus, saving more than $150 per year. Given the small / compact size of the SanDisk Flash Drive, I can easily transport my backed-up files. And, I do not need to access the internet to back-up my files or retrieve my backed up files. A great product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total waste of money, December 27, 2010
This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Backup 64 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ40-064G-A11 (Personal Computers)
Before I bought this I asked if it would work with Windows 7. I was told YES by SanDisk technical support. Well, it does NOT work with Windows 7. The drivers are incompatible. I can use it on my friends computer using Windows XP. I can use it on my work computer using Windows Vista. But when I try using it in Windows 7 the drivers start to load, are found incompatible and then the drive is useless. I spent hours trying to talk this over with SanDisk technical support. They just ran me around in nonsensical circles. I'd tell them the Wondows 7 operating system has reported the drivers as incompatible and they would tell me the SanDisk drivers come pre-ploaded on the drive and will work with Windows 7 therefore there is no problem. I'd say, but it is not working and they would tell me to contact my computer manufacturer. I'd tell them it is the SanDisk drivers that are not working and they would tell me SanDisk drivers come pre-ploaded on the drive and will work with Windows 7 therefore there is no problem.

This is not the only problem with this product, which I could see testing it on my friends computer. It is slow, REALLY SLOW. I tried to transfer a big block of date and it took about 6 hours. Granted it was a lot of data, but when I used a different thumb drive it took about 45 minutes.

Ny suggesting is "DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT".

I recommend this product to anyone who has lots of different documents. The device is very easy to use, and it makes backup very fast. One negative feature I notice is that the software pre-installed was only for WinXP and Vista. I have Win7 so I have to Update it from WinXP running computer. It could be easier.. but I think the manufacturer would install the Win7 compatibile software in new drives.

Great Flash Drive.

I could find only one thing bad about this product, the backup feature will not work with Windows 7 x64. However, this does not matter to me, for I purchased this for the capacity.

I wanted a SanDisk flash drive with a good feature set and capacity but I will continue my quest as this one is headed back for a refund.

The 64 gig flash drive works OK on my Vista Ultimate desktop, but it has the 2-drive display issues (where the flash drive will appear twice under 2 drive letters).

Using Windows 7 is the real deal-breaker, as the Launchpad will not launch. Period. If you are using Windows 7 as your OS, check the interwebs for issues with the U3 system/Launchpad before you buy this unit.

4.0 out of 5 stars SanDisk UB 64GB - Needs Better Customer Support, February 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Backup 64 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ40-064G-A11 (Personal Computers)
I bought this drive to backup my Photo, Music and other document files. The idea is that this type of solid-state-no-moving-parts backup is less apt to fail.

This Flash drive has several Backup options and configurations and also the Backup Button. I inserted the Drive and it was simple to configure. The backup software backed up 16 GB in about 1.5 hours. You can watch the files as they back up and the list scrolls down. This comes to an end, stops and works great.

The problem I have is that the subsequent backups DO backup the files (I set the Date), but the backup software DOES NOT stop or end. I have to stop the backup, close the software and exit the drive. The button DOES start the backup. The software has to be MANUALLY closed. This is not a big problem but is annoying.

A comment I sent at the SanDisk website did get a response, but it was to use the live backup mode. I responded with all my settings, and told them I want to insert the drive each backup. They said they would get back to me.

The SanDisk website support is poor after the initial setup and use instructions.

The SanDisk website price is WAY TOO HIGH.

I do like this drive. The Amazon price was the lowest. The backup button does work. The backup does happen. I just would like the software to stop. I have a WinXP SP3 2.0 GHz Home PC.

5.0 out of 5 stars WELL worth the purchase, April 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Backup 64 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ40-064G-A11 (Personal Computers)
When I first considered this product, I, like most other people with an understanding of online purchases, reviewed the product. The reviews showed a substantial difference between poor and excellent reviews. I started by reviewing all of the poor reviews (took a while, but it is worth it to make an informed decision). Now let me start my review.
I want to assure you that I am a real person. I work hard to take care of my family, I take pride in having an honorable character, and I believe in the wise use of my money. I'm writing this review to hopefully help you make a wise decision with yours.
I use Windows XP. I know it's outdated, but I don't seem to encounter half of the software problems as other people). My XP hasn't even experienced one of the complaints that the poor reviews seem to warn of.
The data transfer rates are the same as with my 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB flash drives. No notable difference at all in my case.
I have dropped the flash drive multiple times (pulling it out of my pocket, knocking it off the night stand, etc.), including a few when it was attached to the computer (I guess that happens sometimes), and it still works flawlessly. Fortunately, so does the computer. My primary reason for purchasing this flash drive was to replace a 120GB external that I had dropped on multiple occasions just because it was connected to the computer by a cord. The external had lost its fervor, and was beginning to experience some serious connectivity issues. I decided that I needed something that connects directly to the computer, and yes, it is dropped a LOT less often.
I don't use the Back-up Button, because I store most of my information on the flash drive anyway in case of a crash (I'm unwilling to pay somebody, like Best Buy, $100 to back up data that I can back up myself). To not use the button, simply do NOT copy the application installed on the flash drive to your computer. I push the button on purpose just to make sure it won't work on accident...trust me, it doesn't work if you don't copy the app to the computer.
My flash drive stores my entire music collection (about 24GB...yeah, I know that is small compared to some people), my entire digital picture album, games, old papers from school, short videos, and a few digital manuals, and I still have 18GB of space available. The convenience alone of having one drive store all of this data was almost worth the $118. The fact that I have never had any problems with this product (I trust SanDisk through experience with their other products) makes it well worth the amount.
Make your own decision...I am not selling this product. I just hope that I have given you the insight that you need to help you make your choice.

~LJW~

I got this drive over 2 years ago. It was well over $200 at that time, and it was well worth the price then. I've had this drive ON MY KEYCHAIN since then! It has never failed me. I've dropped it out of my car door while getting out into the rain at least twice, and it has been bent by me, someone, or something by being bumped while plugged in (with the weight of my keychain), and it still functions perfectly and is not loose or feels like any more bends might break it. Don't get me wrong, I'm so impressed by how long it's lasted that I am very careful with it recently, but I've definitely gotten my money's worth. I have never even bothered to use the backup feature, so I don't even know how well (or if) it works properly, but Sandisk has consistently (IMHO) created some really durable flash memory products. I used a Sansa Fuze media player for almost as long as this until it failed, and then I bought a newer version that impressed me to the point of writing this review, because I don't write that many POSITIVE reviews...for half of what I paid...buy it. Now excuse me while I find some real wood on which to knock...
