Transfer, store, and share files five times faster with USB 3.0
With read speeds of up to 130 MB/s and write speeds up to five times faster than standard USB 2.0 drives(1), the SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.0 Flash Drive lets you quickly move, store, and share your favorite media. Use it to add up to 16GB (2) of storage to your device or quickly move files between your laptop, tablet, game console, TV, car audio system, or other USB-enabled device. You can even transfer a full-length movie faster than standard USB 2.0 drives (3). Because the drive is backward compatible, it works in any USB 2.0 port.

The new drive is also 5-10x faster. On the package it says "Speed up to 130MB/s". This claim is valid based to my testing. I used a benchmark program (CrystalDiskMark v3.0.1 x64) to measure the Sequential Read/Write speed of this Sandisk Ultra Fit flash drive on two computers. Here are my findings:
- When connected to a computer with USB 2.0 port:
Sequential Read = 34.8MB/s, Sequential Write = 18.6MB/s
- When connected to a computer with USB 3.0 port:
Sequential Read = 148.4MB/s, Sequential Write = 39.4MB/s
(see the pictures I uploaded to 'Customer Images' section for details)
The above shows that this flash drive's Read speed is even faster than advertised. But you must use it on an USB 3.0 port to unlock its full potential. This is because the old USB 2.0 port has a theoretical speed limit of 60MB/s. In practice the highest I have seen is just around 36MB/s, as in this case.
1. The capacity of this '32GB' drive, as reported by my computer, is only 29.8GB. This is actually normal because computer people count one Gig as "2 to the power 30", which is 7.3% greater than one billion. So 29.8GB comes to 31.Read more ›
Because the thumbdrive gets unusually hot, I measured current with USB current meter. I connected usb current meter to USB 2.0 port, and connected SanDisk Ultra Fit 16GB on the other side.
When the thumbdrive is in idle, 0.06A is constantly measured.
When the thumbdrive is in active, measure current fluctuates between 0.16A and 0.10A, so the average current looks to be 0.13A.
The power consumption rate of the thumbdrive is P = VI = 5.04V x 0.13mA = 655 mW. Because the power mostly dissipates as heat, the power consumption rate can be regarded as heat generation rate. If you are an electrical engineer, you can find that 655 mW is quite a high power for the small devices as thumbdrive. Note that the power limit of a normal resistor used in breadboard is 1/4 Watt. The power consumption of the thumbdrive is twice to the allowed power consumption of a normal resistor.
Furthermore, my computer is equipped only with USB 2.0 and the above current measurement is implemented in USB 2.0. In USB 3.0, much more current will flow through the thumbdrive, generating even more heat and increases temperature further.
High temperature in thumbdrive means shorter lifetime. Thus, I recommend this product for occasional use, but not for continuous or extensive use.
My name is Allen from SanDisk support. We appreciate your interest in SanDisk products and your review. SanDisk drives comply with industry specific standards and are tested to remain in acceptable temperature ranges under normal operating conditions in host and USB flash drive devices.
SanDisk drives are tested to comply to the safety standards in "Safety of Information Technology Equipment, IEC 60950-1", where the ambient temperature range is between 0°C and 35°C. SanDisk Ultra Fit can run a little warmer than other similar drives due to its high performance and compact form factor, which can limit the immediate dissipation of heat from the circuitry.
As you may be aware, the latest laptops and desktops also generate considerable amount of heat which can contribute to SanDisk Ultra Fit running warm while inserted in these hosts. Nevertheless the drive is tested to remain in acceptable temperature ranges under normal operating conditions so to not affect your host device. Please wait for 15-20 seconds after operation to remove/eject the drive before interacting with it.
However in case the drive is heating up exceptionally, please contact us at 1-866-SanDisk (726-3475) or submit a support request at www.sandisk.com/ask. We will assist you towards the best possible resolution.
First off, this thing is small, about the same size as the Cruzer Fit, which means I can leave this thing in my laptop and not worry about it breaking off like some of my much longer USB drives have. I even leave it in when taking my laptop with me when I travel. I almost never take it out. Its the perfect size, just like my Logitech mouse receiver is! It also seems you could put this on a keychain with one of those tiny wristlet cords, as it has a very tiny loop hole on the bottom. Also, personally, I like the more curvy designed edge this has over the old Sandisk Cruzer Fit, as it seems to be much easier to take out of my laptop (It has slightly more room to grip).
Secondly, this thing is fast... very, very fast in comparison to its USB 2.0 predecessor. I copied a few movies and other large files from my computer to this drive and here are the results comparing the two drives. The specs say the Ultra Fit 32GB and 64GB are suppose to read and write 10x faster than USB 2.0 drives. So lets find out if this is true. It is also important to note that you must have this plugged into a USB 3.0 port to get the advertised speeds. Well enough rambling, on to the results:
Results were based on my Alienware 17 laptop with an Intel i5 with 8GB RAM running Windows 8.Read more ›
