I loved the idea of slot radio! One SD card with 1,000 songs for about $30.00? Steal right? Not really. Not for me anyway. I liked very few songs and this card. I love 80's and 90's music. Out of all the songs that could have been selected, most songs are unknown tracks from well known artists. The R&B selection is just sad. I really wanted to like this. Maybe you will,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great concept, handy addition to a SanDisk player, September 16, 2010
This review is from: SanDisk slotRadio '80s & '90s Card (1,000 Songs) (Electronics)
I wasn't all that sure about what SlotRadio really was when I bought my SanDisk player, but am really pleased that it has it. Great concept - basically it's like listening to the radio without commercials but also no monthly fee. The songs are grouped into 7 playlists, and you can skip from playlist to playlist or song to song. However, you can't go backwards or replay - you can only skip over a song. So, if you hear something you like you can't replay it until it comes up again in the rotation.

The song order appears random within each playlist, which helps avoid getting bored with the tunes. I've had this for a couple of months and listed to it for many hours, and still find it enjoyable given the number of tunes on the chip. You will hear some of the same songs on multiple playlists - for example, you might hear the same song from U2 on the Rock playlist as well as the Workout playlist.

If you're a fan of 80's music you're sure to hear something you like (or at least something that you haven't heard in a while). All the major names from the 80s and 90s. Best channels are Alternative and Euro; weakest are Chill Out and R&B.

Downsides are minor. The chip is really small and easy to misplace. It comes with a holder but it's pretty cheaply made. Also, you will occasionally hear 5 second commercials between songs from SanDisk. They are very infrequent and can be skipped over just like a song, but irritating none the less. They already have my money - why do I need to hear their commercials?

4.0 out of 5 stars DRM's aside-I love not having to create a playlist, November 1, 2010
By
This review is from: SanDisk slotRadio '80s & '90s Card (1,000 Songs) (Electronics)
I love pop music from the 80's & 90's and this has almost all the music that I listened to. I am not an apple ipod person because of the pricing. It is out of my range and I don't feel like paying 99 cents a song on top of the price for an ipod. 1000 songs for about 30 bucks which is what I paid for this teeny tiny memory card that is pre-loaded with almost all the hits I remember. Most people who are into DRM's will be outraged that they can't download this music into their PC. The only thing that is a bit annoying for me is the fact that I can't replay a song after hearing it. It is a pain especially when I am working out and I get into a groove that gets me going. This sounds like a negative review but it isn't. I just want to go through and point out things that I found a bit difficult to work with. The size of the mini sd card makes it precarious to work with. At least a couple of times since having it, I have dropped it and it was not the easiest thing to find. It is super tiny. I don't know if it works on anything else but sansa clip & fuze. I read online somewhere that if your device is mini-sd card compatible that it may work. I don't know this for a fact.

I hope that Sansa who markets this little card will make it available for other devices for a small licensing fee. Who knows! It would make it worth it for me the down the road since we don't all want to carry CD's or create a playlist. I am not interested in being my own DJ. I just listen and get my groove on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sandisk card, July 23, 2010

The first card I received did not work in the Fuze. I returned it and Amazon was great about it. I still have not heard all the songs but found songs I hadn't heard in a long time. Some of the songs I really enjoy I did not know they had been authored by! It is a great way to get a lot of songs for cheap. I don't like many of the songs on there but there are a thousand! I have found enough songs to make this a really good deal.

If you are a lover of only a few songs, this option is not ideal for you. I recommend you buy digital copies of the songs you love and save yourself the headache. Go buy those 40 songs to listen to over and over.
If you love music in general and aren't dead set on specific songs, like me, you will love this. It exemplifies the "Keep it Simple, Stupid." You have a thousand songs that are randomly arranged into eight stations. Some songs are covered by bands I've never heard of, but most are original pieces. All you need to do is pop this into your slotRadio player and play. The various radio stations are different, but if you go for the Chillout or Workout, you'll get some overlap songs from the other stations.

Positives:
1. Easy peasy(Sp?). Insert SDcard and it plays automatically.
2. Eight stations. I have been enjoying them all, specially the alternative and the workout.
3. You can plug the SD card into a few kinds of black berries, and you can hear music through that medium.
4. Randomized playlist. I've been listening for a few days now (12 hours a day at work) and just now heard a new song.
5. Great selection of music. Some songs I havn't heard in so long, I forgot they existed. Then I suddenly had a series of flashbacks to high school.

Downsides:
1. When I put this into my slotRadio, the songs would slow down, become grainy, and skip (like a scratched CD). I tried various things to fix it, like turning it on and off. I may have figured it out. I had it plugged into my monitor (Via the USB cord) so I could listen to it at work without plugging it into my desktop and get it monitored by my company. When I unplugged it, the music stopped and a firmware update started. Since it completed, I have had zero problems.

2. SlotRadio advertises that you are listening to slotRadio. It is repetitive, but you can skip it. It only comes up once an hour. It is good if you want to keep track of time, otherwise it is a minor nuisance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding product!, May 7, 2011

Having picked up my SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 4 GB MP3 Player (Black) a few months ago, I only recent discovered the joys of these SlotRadio cards. I am now hooked!

First, the price is incredible, particularly considering the amount of music on here. At full price, it is roughly $40.00 for 1,000 songs. Do the math; it is super inexpensive. I've even bought some of these on sale at my local, national electronics store (the one that is abbreviated "BB") for between $19.99 and $29.99.

Second, the music/song selection. All original artists, great song/artist choices and all in excellent sound quality. I was initially worried that the sound quality might not be up to par, or be at a fairly low bitrate, but these all sound fantastic. I now have purchased the SanDisk slotRadio Rock Card (1,000 Songs) and the SanDisk slotRadio R&B/Hip-Hop Card (1,000 Songs) cards.

Third, the ease of use. No muss, no fuss. Just open the package and slide the MicroSD card into the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 4 GB MP3 Player (Black) and you're good to go. The player, once you turn it on after sliding in the card, immediately recognizes the card and you can navigate through the songs and pre-programmed playlists as you wish. On that note, yes, it is true, once you get to a song, you cannot "go back" to a prior song. But, truly this is a minor, if not altogether inconsequential, issue. I love just having the songs go one after other, with no need to download songs, manage a playlist, sync with my computer or music organizer, etc. It is absolutely a dream come true...TONS of great music, all super easy to use, all for a micro-fraction of the cost of obtaining this many songs/artists. Truly a no-brainer if ever there was one. I hope there is a plan to release more of these in the future as I see myself soon adding each edition to my collection!

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Slot Radio Card so Far, May 2, 2011
This review is from: SanDisk slotRadio '80s & '90s Card (1,000 Songs) (Electronics)
I did a rather in depth review earlier on the VH1 card explaining the nuts and bolts of how these tiny little music cards work. So if you have general questions you might want to look there first. That said, this is my favorite Slot Radio card. The content suits my taste in music better than the SanDisk slotRadio VH1 Classic Card. I especially enjoy the 80's play list of this card. Pretty much all good stuff. A really good mix. Buy one and enjoy those songs you haven't heard in years!

I bought this for my husband's birthday. We have been listening to this everytime we are in the car for a month. Our kids have named it the funny card since we dance in our seats. There has only been one song neither of us recognize. We usually use the random setting on our mp3 players anyway, and with this card, you don't have one song that seems to repeat more than the others. It would be nice to play the entire card, not just one playlist at a time. You do not have control over the order, but that is nice when you are otherwise occupied.

I purchased this with a new Sansa Clip because I never had an MP3 player before, so I wanted a lot of music immediately w/o spending hundreds of dollars. Don't you just love immediate gratification? What fun would it be to get your 1st player and only have a few songs? So I thought PERFECT! However, alot of the songs are songs that may have been b-sides. I find myself skipping constantly. I only want to listen to about 1 in 10. Another thing that I really hope SanDisk changes is that you can't go back and listen to a song again after you've listened to it. You'd have to skip or listen to 999 songs to get back to the one you'd like to hear again. BIG HUGE DRAWBACK.
One odd use that I've found helpful is when I hear a song thay I really love but forgot about, I'll buy it. I really like it for that. Although it's the last thing I would have thought of when I paid $40 for the card. I'd purchase more if SanDisk makes listening more flexable.

I haven't had any problems with the disc as others may have mentioned. In fact, I was plesantly surprized that the songs were catagorized so I could use the workout songs when I was working out, and just skip other genres I don't like. I think it is worth the buy.
