About the Author

KA van Wyk began training in Wado Ryu karate over twenty years ago, before taking a break to travel, then settling in Cape Town and discovering Kyokushin. A move to the UK, and a bout of glandular fever, meant another break and another change of style to Shotokan. Sanchin was written during this break in training and a new career was born.

More About the Author

I grew up in South Africa and Zambia. We moved around a lot with my father's job and I attended thirteen different schools.

I began my writing career formulating cue sheets and press releases for a local radio station and most of my professional writing since then has been articles and content for web sites.

I can't believe I'm confessing to this but, apart from set work books at school, I didn't voluntarily read a novel until I was 24 years old. I always told myself I had no time for stories, though I was an avid reader of non-fiction.

The first novel I read was Wilbur Smith's When the Lion Feeds. I was living in the UK at the time and I was so captivated by his vivid descriptions of Africa that I was immediately transported home. My love of fiction was born.

I began writing YA martial arts fiction when illness put my own karate training on hold for a while.

As usual, I read her second book first then this one and found both to be very enjoyable. You can learn alot about the formality and the 'ways' of Karate within a nice story. I cannot wait for her next one!
