4.0 out of 5 stars Sancocho= A Latin Stew, July 6, 2006
This review is from: Sancocho: A book of Nuyorican poetry / by Shaggy Flores, edited by Louis Reyes Rivera
Jaime Flores is better known as Shaggy, a new generation Nuyorican poet. Umass grad with a bachelor's on the African Diaspora, Shaggy Flores was a member of the 2000 National Hartford Slam team. He follows in the tradition of Arturo Schomburg & Louis Reyes Riveras.

One of the most interesting young poets. Someone who speaks for his generation and many more generations to come. Shaggy at times sounds prophetic and at the same time he becomes a modern Malcom X. His ability with words and emotion convey an image that sticks in your mind. "Times of the apocalyptic age Released the mass poverty at center stage All at the expense of the Capitalist's greedy rage" he says in The Messiah.
A voice for a generation that may never forget him. He speaks for the poor and for women. A poet who believes in the beauty of women and their power to lead.
