What a ripoff,
By Movie Buff "Lynn" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sanctimony [VHS] (VHS Tape)
First of all I borrowed the video--no way on earth I'd pay anything for this although it "reads" like it might be interesting. Several points brought up in the IMDB included one particularly on point PULLLEEASE A cop chasing a suspect in a VW Beetle? I am a major fan of Michael Pare. Unfortunately, the more I see of his movies the more I am beginning to believe he is strictly Eddie Wilson from Eddie & The Cruisers. His mannerisms, his way of talking to his wife, his telling a story, ya know what I mean? Even his gestures...all of this has been seen multiple times in other films. As Det. Renaut he is strictly a cardboard character....no more. The only character one can even remotely get a feel for his Renaut's wife. The killer is straight out of American Psycho and there are more than a few references to Silence of the Lambs. I don't really see the relation to Seven, but I'm sure there is one. Sloppy editing, especially in the beginning and a the murderer hanging around in some place so OUT of place for him will certainly arouse suspicion. Right away we are given the murderer and the bumbling way that capture is handled makes it unbelievable. Tied up nicely with a shootout. I am very disappointed in this film and I had hoped that Michael Pare would've developed more character than to star in the same type of role over and over. Very disappointed indeed. DO NOT PASS GO. DO NOT WASTE TIME with this film. Sorry.

from a parallel universe comes....Sanctimony,
By
This review is from: Sanctimony (DVD)
"Sanctimony" is like a suspense thriller created by beings from a parallel universe...it's kind of like our universe, but it's just off enough to make you wonder what the hell it is you're watching. Of course, this is known as the "Uwe Boll" effect, which has been known to make people snap DVDs in half rather than to let them fall into the hands of others.
Sanctimony is kind of like this: take elements of "American Psycho", "Silence of the Lambs", and "Seven", put them all in a blender, throw in a serial killer called "The Monkey Maker" (and I'm sure monkeys do figure in with this film somehow, like, perhaps they generated the script), add some inexplicable snuff scenes & have Caspar Van Dien play a prominent stock broker who is obviously not right in the head, and there you have it. Oh, and we have Michael Pare & Jennifer Rubin as cops hot on the trail of the killer, and Michael Pare even drives a VW Bug with a siren, which is sure to intimidate any criminal. This film just kind of lurches along, somehow, leaving the viewer completely baffled most of the time. The dialog can be somewhat astounding at times, too, which brings us back to that parallel universe theory... I think one of the best things in this film is when Van Dien's character breaks up with his fiancee, and she has a "not engaged" party, complete with a "not a wedding cake", and if that's not enough, her "not a fiancee anymore" shows up and blows everyone away. Her fault, she invited the guy. It was only morbid curiosity that made me watch this, and it's ALMOST worth a laugh, but it's also almost too weird to laugh at. I do watch a lot of foreign films from cultures that I'm not familiar with, but they have things like stories, plots, characters that one can identify with, a purpose, etc. I never get the feeling of being alienated from the human race as I do from watching Boll's films...being that I'm an adventurous sort, I would like to see at least one of his other abominations before I decide I've had enough (or before I incur brain damage), but personally, my recommedation is: Don't Try This At Home. 1 out of 5, and I'm being overly generous.

Max Payne : The Movie -_-~,
By Smiley Wolf "Mark" (U.K.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sanctimony (DVD)
The one reason why I remember this movie is that is reminds me a lot of the character in the video game Max Payne and could pass off easily as a movie version of a Max Payne prequel. I won't got into detail with the movie itself as the other review gave quite accurate detail on the material (admittedly I can barely remember this movie to say much, anyway).
