I have quite a few butterflies in my backyard during the spring and summer. I plant my plants in containers on my deck instead of in the yard. I know that Penta's attract butterflies but what I didn't know was the extensive list of other flowers that attract them too. Then to include some surprising info about where and why butterflies like to rest, I had no idea. I'm now on a new quest.

We were just talking this morning outside about hummingbirds and what might attract them and now I have that information. What a great little book. This is one I refer back to from time to time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, a topic new garden enthusiasts or children will love. Written in a light hearted manner, Don makes the scientific facts fun to read for everyone except perhaps...an academic! The concepts are presented in a humorous fashion making you want to continue reading.

What do butterflies and hummingbirds like to eat? Well, you will need to read the book to find out but I was surprised at some of the things the beautiful butterfly prefers! There is also good news for those of us who may have the occasional 'brown' finger - it's great to hear I don't need to keep the perfect garden to attract butterflies into my life!

The use of images throughout the book, makes a topic such as this so much more enjoyable along with great tips on how to make your garden a hummingbird or butterfly magnet through use of color. I love red as well, so I understand the attraction for hummingbirds!

With a great list of flowers in the garden planning chapter to assist you with your goals, this is a great, fun read covering the basics to get you on the road to butterfly and hummingbird heaven.

This is a great book for any nature lover who appreciates the beauty of watching butterflies and hummingbirds. I always loved seeing them randomly, but never really thought about attracting them to my own backyard! This gave me some fantastic ideas of how I'll need to set my yard up so that I enjoy watching these beautiful creatures all the time right outside my window. Really cool book!

Oh yeah, I learned much more from this well-written publication than I thought I would going into it...

Apparently, there are butterfly houses that are much more preferential than sharing a bird-house. Stands to reason really, otherwise the butterflies may become food for the Hummingbirds, as those birds spend their entire existence seemingly searching for their next great meal (insert Oprah joke here...).

This book is chock-full of interesting facts, and constructing a garden to attract these beautiful creatures is made to seem so simple, that even I could do it! There is quite a comprehensive list of attractive plants and flowers (even weeds!) to consider adding to your garden, as well as the design strategies to help weave them into your particular layout.

All in all, a great read and a welcome addition to my ever-growing Kindle bookshelf collection...

I found this book to be loaded with information we can use. For the last few years we have been trying to attract Hummingbirds to our back yard. Like many others we hang the feeders and let it go at that. We'ed get a bird or two, but that was all. This book tells us how to do it the right way. Hummingbirds and Butterflies are now going to find the best place in our neighborhood to hangout.

I love nature and I love gardens. Reading this book I've felt very inspired to improve my garden and make it more attractive for birds.
I've found tons of interesting data about butterflies and hummingbirds that I didn't know before. Like for example, butteflies can smell with their feet!
It's well written, it's interesting and inspiring.
I want to make a few changes in my garden now and see if I can attract more hummingbirds. I will follow Don's recommendations.

This book offered perfect solutions and how to create the perfect calming, enjoyable sanctuary for our quick winged friends and myself. Don's book offered valuable insight on the types of plants that would attract the butterflies and hummingbirds and I even learned a few things about butterflies that I never knew. This book offered practical ideas and suggestions to assist even a novice garderner develop a well suited sanctuary that will help attract the most desirable and calming creatures to your own backyard garden. I also was pleased to read that the butterflies love the heat, so this is perfect for my south facing deck! If you haven't read Don Evan's other book "Vertical Gardening - Bountiful Results in Small Spaces"...you should!

Since we visited a butterfly farm last year, my daughters have been very keen to attract more butterflies into our garden, so I was excited to find this book available. This is a quick read focused on creating gardens for butterflies and hummingbirds. I don't have the greenest thumb in the world but it doesn't matter because the information in this book is simple enough for novice gardeners to be able to use. We don't have hummingbirds here in Australia but I did enjoy the photographs. I found the book well written and organized.
