Kevin Alyn (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
I read this book after many years of participating in the healing work offered by Stephen Lewis. I have been participating in the AIM Program of his and Slawson's church, EMC2, since it began. This book finally revealed the nature of the healing work I had been participating in. Before it came out I had no idea what Steve was doing except that I knew it worked for me.

The book is full of disclosures (not "disclaimers" - disclosure has to do with bringing the truth to light which is what happens here; disclaimer has to do with avoiding responsibility) that let people know that the work done by EMC2 is not some kind of official substitute for medicine. Some have implied that these disclosures are an indication of something questionable going on, rather than being what they are: A true expression of how this work is viewed or not viewed by so-called scientific authorities. Based on many years of knowing Steve, I know him to be an ethical and intelligent person who believe passionately in the work he does, which he thinks may be the most important thing happening on the planet right now. As a long-time participant, I happen to agree with him. And I think the fact that Sanctuary and EMC2 try to be eminently clear about the fact that this work is absolutely outside the mainstream and is based on spiritual healing principles is admirable. As is often the case, attackers of light work such as this have their own agendas. For instance, one attacker reveals in another book review that he is an MD, but conveniently fails to mention that in his review of Sanctuary. Oddly, that reviewer simultaneously trumpets the fact that the book is fiction (and implies that the techniques are also fictional) then suggests that the fiction may have side effects. When we consider that the authors present the work as the technology of prayer in healing, it is not surprising that a reviewer with a secular bias has such a strong negative opinion.

Some people have complained that EMC2 is a non-profit organization that manages to avoid taxation. The truth is that EMC2 is a for-profit company which pays taxes. Lewis and Slawson have been forthright with me and others that the reason it is not a non-profit is because they do not solicit or accept donations, they only offer a spiritual service for a fee, and they did not feel it was ethical to take advantage of special dispensations in the law which they feel were designed to help organizations which are supported by donations. On the other hand, EMC2 believes that if their work is valued, people will pay for it. In addition, since the church began, the cost of participating in this energy work has dropped substantially.

Others have talked about how EMC2 uses independent facilitators to work with people in their geographical areas who are interested in participating in the energetic/spiritual work. These people have claimed that there is some kind of multi-level marketing plan being used by EMC2. Frankly, I know a number of people who want to become independent facilitators for them, but EMC2 doesn't allow many people to do this work. An MLM tries to recruit as many salespeople as possible. EMC2 doesn't seem to be trying to recruit anybody.

Some have claimed that the client base of EMC2 is mostly the wealthy. This is not true. The people I have met over the years who are participating in this are people with a spiritual orientation towards healing and who come from all walks of life. As for complaints that the testimonials are vague and subjective, I believe that the well-known people who shared their belief in this work are brave individuals who are willing to stand up for what they believe in, even when those beliefs aren't supported by mainstream orthodoxy. But as all thinking people know, what is orthodox today may be discredited tomorrow and the lunatic fringe today may be tomorrow's mainstream. Remember that Galileo was jailed for claiming that the earth was round.

So, in short (hah - I guess I haven't been too short - sorry!) I'd say to anybody READ THIS BOOK if you have an open mind. The information in it isn't for everybody, but the authors don't claim it is for everybody. They try to make sure that you know theirs is an alternative view, offered in spiritual terms. If that sounds interesting to you, and you believe that healing and spirituality are inseparable, then check it out!

1.0 out of 5 stars The answers are inside you, January 19, 2004
By
I read this book a few years ago and I recently saw that Stephen Lewis is still trying to gather a flock. I've been working on myself for many years. I try to balance my left brain (business degree) with my right brain (by meditating). I believe in a few things that Lewis says specifically that everything is energy but I don't believe that he has your best interest at heart.

I went to a Lewis gathering in Denver that was run by one of his facilitators. She had been on the AIM program for about one year. During her talk she hardly ever smiled and she curiously had a cold/cough. Of course, she explained that her cold must be due to the detoxifying of her body through the AIM program. So after her talk she shows a video of Stephen Lewis being interviewed by infomercial guru Kevin Trudeau. Trudeau is a convicted felon and also was formerly involved with a MLM company called Nutrition for Life. Unfortunately, my one and only time with a MLM company was with the same Nutrition for LIfe. The company was publicly held and after the news of Trudeau was announced (felony) the stock plummeted and was eventually delisted.

So I'm watching the video and thinking that somehow someway this Trudeau is involved with Lewis' company (or church). Once my sarcastic laughter subsides I concentrate on Lewis. He very rarely looks Trudeau in the eye and never smiles. Maybe there's no smiling allowed in this "church"! I would think that being disease free would make you smile all the time?! So after the video I asked the facilitator if this AIM program was a MLM setup. She wasn't expecting that question and noticeably became flustered. She never really answered the question and quickly called on someone else.

Before I went to the seminar I listened to about a 2 hour long taped radio show with Lewis taking calls. He said something to the effect that early on his clients were rich people because they could afford to pay him. What's his agenda, to help people or just take their money?

I put something on a message board about Lewis and a lady from CA responded and said that she was an energy worker. She had volunteered to help at one of his seminars. She said that she thought his energy was "dreadful", he was rude, and that she didn't even like being in the same room with him. She had already signed up for the AIM program and ended it after 6 months with no positive results.

Lewis has setup an almost foolproof way to bilk people out of their money. He has numerous disclaimers and it's setup as a "church". Instead of just serving the rich he's made it available to the masses. The yearly cost of $1000 is a stretch enough to keep the riff-raff out but yet attainable enough for the spiritually gullible. The program also locks people in because if you leave the program you'll probably become "sick".

"What if" he can do what he says? It would be priceless! Or better yet why not be a saint and offer it to people for free? If he has the frequencies to heal than any other frequency will harm. So he could go from Dr. Love to Dr. Evil. What happens if you leave the program, could he harm you?

As we grow older we start caring more about our health and less about our money. There is one fact, we're all going to die. Our egos might not believe it but it's true. In my opinion, Lewis is basically a faith healer. He dazzles you with technology (with no proven results) and you have faith that you'll be healed by it. Where does healing come from? It comes from inside you, not from ANYTHING outside of you. Have faith in yourself. Do you want to feel better? Then eat better and exercise. Do you think you can send your photo to Lewis and still eat a box of Oreos a day and be healthy? Common sense is free!

There is one thing that will be interesting. What will Lewis die from? I can almost guarantee it'll be reported as an "accident" and not a disease. This is big business folks, the business entity must live on.

There is one frequency Lewis has pinpointed and that is the frequency of MONEY!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Everything is energy, of course." p.197, paperback, January 2, 2003
This is a fascinating book. Lewis and Slawson have weaved together an intricate web of ideas that refuse to be circumscribed by the traditional medical paradigm. Max, the protaganist in the novel, sees the world as we know it as "an unnecessary limitation" (p.41). Abandoning a highly successful medical practice, he begins a life-long exploration of the metaphysical implications of subtle energy techniques. Throughout the book Max reminds his "followers" that he can cure nothing; "I only direct your energy," he says (p.41).

A philisophical discussion of the practical implications of these ideas unfolds throughout the novel as Max and a handful of helpers work together to help those who ask for help. The essence of this philosophy is presented on p.85: "Spirit is energy...and energy is spirit....Thus all illness is spiritual, which is to say that all illness is energetic in nature. 'Dis-ease' is due to an individual's misalignment with the power of the spiritual energy....By realigning the individual to be in harmony with the spiritual force, the life-force, the subtle energetic matrix that makes up the entire universe--that individual's physical, emotional, and even spiritual ailments will disappear."

To gain the deepest insights one might need at this time, one should not approach this book in an analytical fashion. Neither should a person rush out to spend hard earned money. Rather, one might explore the possibility that the symbolism in this book may lead the inner self to find its own answers. And depending on the person's own inner development, perhaps that wisdom may lead one to become involved in the "therapy" of Lewis and Slawson. Of course, techniques do matter. The energetic imbalances in the various characters did not correct themselves. Outside intervention was necessary.

This book is worth the money. Whether the techniques work might depend in some fashion on the same principles that govern the efficacy of certain medications prescribed by medical doctors. Each person's attitudes and beliefs and the particular cycle of wellness v. illness he is in surely combine to effect the outcome of any treatment.

4.0 out of 5 stars New break through of an old theory-frequencies/vibrations, August 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sanctuary: The Path to Consciousness (Hardcover)
I had never heard of Santuary before the middle of August, 1999. When I arrived at the meeting hall where I thought I would be attending a Chanting concert, Santuary was giving a presentation instead. There are no accidents. Well, I've met the real Max upon his visit to Kansas City. And I had a session with him and well your thumb doesn't lie. With all the beeps and tones you can actually see the levels of these frequencies.

He was able to tell me things about myself and the frequency of the energies I had been dealing with. He explained what I had inherited from first my father and then my mother. And I learned what was hiding and didn't want to be found. He said that they would all be gone in a few weeks. Some in just a week.

I am now receiving the subtle energy frequencies to bring my body, mind, emotional and spiritual bodies back into balance from the trays into my picture. And well skeptical at first, I can already tell the difference. It's kind of like an overall lightness. I have suffered with asthma for many years and have almost died from a sudden attack 2 years ago. And well, it hasn't bothered me now.

Max explained that since we are energy (alive) and we live in energy that we are all connected. That is why I can feel the frequencies being transmitted into my picture. I am a believer in this whole process. And I know there are people everywhere that can benefit from this balancing just like Jane in the book to myself.

I highly recommend it!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Path to Consciousness, April 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sanctuary: The Path to Consciousness (Hardcover)
For today's physicists, Einstein, Heisenberg, Bohr and other's work to identify the energetic unity of the universe, E=MC2, is yesterday's breakthrough. For the understanding of the rest of us, in the new book, "Sanctuary: The Path to Conscious," from HTT Press, by authors Stephen Lewis & Evan Slawson, it is the latest ground-breaking, chain-breaking news as it applies to our own conscious well-being.

Throughout Sanctuary, its hero, Max, explains the theory behind energetic unity and how it relates to us for good or ill. Many mystics claim we have other bodies, the casual, the mental, the energetic, the spirit, etc., and refer to them as our 'subtle bodies' no less real, of significant consequence than the physical body. For instance the "Yoga Sutras," by the sage Patanjali, indicate that there are energetic pathways in and between the subtle bodies and this ancient work indicates that energetic imbalances are transmitted through to the physical body. If imbalanced, or negative, these energies allow the body to get out of sync with its own processes and can result in allergies, heart disease or cancer for examples. Regardless of symptomology, though, energetic negativity can be reversed and imbalance brought to balance again.

Well-being on every level is enhanced when subtle-energy blockages, impeding our ability to keep ourselves in top condition physically, mentally and spiritually, are removed. We, then, become more and more able to express our lives more fully and completely. And, in Sanctuary, Max says, "There is no difference between vibration, energy and prayer or chanting. It's all the same thing, it's a focusing of consciousness. We believe that creating this energetic mantra, this prayer wheel, has healing benefits ... What we do is help you find your higher consciousness, which we believe is resident in everyone, so that you become your own healer."

Max continues, "All energy comes from a higher source. All energy is the higher source. We don't create it, we just tap into it. You may call energy 'divine' or 'eternal', they are synonyms ..." Max has developed techniques and equipment which identify subtle-energy frequencies and can pinpoint many thousands of frequency imbalances. And, most importantly, he can reverse these frequencies.

Max's techniques examine the total being, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, in terms of pure subtle-energy frequencies. This energetic information can be obtained directly from the body as well as by using a photographic image of the individual being tested. He can detect problem areas of imbalance and provide the body with the correct re-balancing frequencies, placing your consciousness in the right place at the right time. In the case of energetic balancing, once the disturbance is identified, once it comes to consciousness, to conscious awareness, then the self, the higher self, the organizing principle in you knows what to do to make it right.

Stephen Lewis, the real-life Max, says, "The real goal of Sanctuary and its work: To help each of us consciously unite with that divine energy which is in all things, of which all things are made, the continuum of energy which is our 'self.' Our task, the true task of integration and realization, is to become one with that which is already us, which is to say, become one with all things -- to become well."

2.0 out of 5 stars Not all it's cracked up to be, September 6, 2004
I came across this book several times before deciding to purchase it. The reason I purchased it was because my mom was diagnosed with cancer, large cell non-hodgkins lymphoma, which is said to be one of the "more curable" types of cancer. I would have done anything to save my mothers life and I thought this could be the answer. I took the book home, read it and convinced my mom to pay the $600 to try the energy healing that the book discusses. This was back in April of 2004. My mom passed away on August 14, 2004, while still being supposedly treated with the energy healing prescribed in the book. My mom did not get a reprieve from any of her pain or any type of healing at all. Although, I can say I do believe in vibrational medicine and our own natural healing forces, I don't recommend that anyone in my situation look at this as a life saving prescription for anyone they truly love. I was very let down and disappointed and so was my mom. I feel bad for even convincing her to try it when I didn't know if it would work or not.

The way the book is written, although fictional, leads one to believe that this is the ultimate answer for healing anything and anyone. If you are buying this book to try and save yourself or someone you love, please look elsewhere. Also, just wanted to add, after the money was sent in for the healing, we received one letter from the "Church of Consciousness" and that was it. They didn't keep up with you or seem to care at all, which makes you wonder if they're even doing anything. My mom is supposedly still under this "energy healing." Too bad she isn't even alive anymore. Please use precation when buying this book for serious reasons. If it's for entertainment purposes, by all means, buy the book. It was interesting enough, just not any benefit to one who is seriously ill.

5.0 out of 5 stars To Those For Whom This Resonates, September 26, 2002
By
Lea Walters (Greenbrae, CA United States) - See all my reviews
There are those who "have eyes to see and ears to hear" who will read this book and say, "yes, this totally resonates." So many powerful new technologies are evolving at this time in human history to assist us in coming to consciousness: Einstein theorizing E=mc2; Neils Bohr and the development of Quantum Physics; The New Thought Spirituality of Science of Mind; the notion of a holographic universe and the realization that we are each a hologram complete unto itself... within a larger hologram, the hologram of humanity; and the remarkable capacity today of computer technology to quantify energetic matrices.

Max, the hero of the novel, to whom the Sacrament of Energetic Balancing was revealed, teaches us the bottom line, that everything is energy and everything has a subtle-energy frequency. These frequencies can be measured and quantified using principles which blend spirituality and technology. Each human is a matrix of frequencies. When the frequencies of our matrix are out of phase, we have imbalance. With the focus of Energetic Balancing, we can bring those frequencies back into balance and achieve well being. We do it with our Higher Consciousness, that part of us which knows and intuits everything and which has our best interest at heart.

If this resonates with you, it will excite you with the possibilities. It excited me and thousands of others who decided, "If this is so, I have to know." I am participating in Energetic Balancing via the AIM Program that is featured in the last chapters of this novel and I am experiencing the miracle of balancing/healing myself. So are members of my family and so are many people who I know that are on the AIM Program.

While Sanctuary is a novel and the story is fiction, the spiritual technology that it educates us about is real and representative of a monumental quantum shift in Consciousness. As Herb Alpert quotes on the bookcover, "The future is here. Check it out."

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gift of Life....., March 31, 2000
This review is from: Sanctuary: The Path to Consciousness (Hardcover)
As an RN and Reiki Practitioner this book and the AIM program answers the questions for those that are looking for the connection between the scientific and the spiritual. Having the pleasure of meeting Stephen Lewis recently, my whole family has joined the AIM Program. The AIM Program allows us to heal ourselves...allowing spiritual healing with out having to worry about the inside clutter or imbalances. Yes, we are always responsible for taking care of ourselves, but this is now much easier.

This book is a gift...one to share..please do. Thank-you Stephen Lewis for your dedication, commitment, and your spirit. You have touched so many and will continue to do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - Science and Spirituality finally coming together, February 2, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The story was terrific. The possibilities are endless. There is a phrase used in the science community for many years - the larger the circle of light, the greater the circumference of darkness that surrounds it. Meaning - the more we know, the more we realize that we don't know. Who are you to say what "is" and what "isn't"? You don't know what you don't know!

Even a person who has taken rudimentary science can understand what is explained in this book. It simply makes sense. Commenting to some of the reviews, I find some of them extremely laughable! I was amazed at some of the overt attempts to libel/slander the author. Let's get a couple things straight - while they formed a church, it DOES pay taxes. (If that reviewer did even a MODICUM of research, that obvious fact would have surfaced.)

Next, this is not MLM. I know network marketing very well. (Yes, just like real life, there are good and bad ones.) This has NONE of the markers of being MLM. Nice try.

So, not able to drag them down other ways, they try to slander/libel the authors. Why not, they do it every day in politics, and it seems to work no matter what the truth is. I, for one, don't believe a word of it (the slander/libel). Why? Because an awful lot of people would be financially hurt if the energy healing were to take any stronger a hold. That's why. And money always speaks louder than the truth - especially in this country.

Consider this: our country's entire economy is about 7 trillion dollars. Quite a lot of dough! Okay, now what if the medical industry was 1 trillion of that? Do you think they would do anything to protect their cash cow? Well, the medical industry IS 1 trillion (and growing). And they WILL go to great lengths to protect their money. GREAT lengths. (So, get used to the repeated disclosures in the book. The medical industry will use any means possible to wipe out any form of competition. Just go see what they did to Dr. Royal Rife!)

As Lewis' system for energy healing becomes more popular, expect it to "get ugly" out there. And if you want to do your own research, there's a boat load of research out there to back up their discussions in the book. Start with quantum physics, it's amazing stuff.

Lastly, we all know that ALL THINGS (including you) are made up of atoms and smaller sub-atomic particles, right? (If you don't, perhaps you slept through elementary school science? (g)) Anyway, what is between the nucleus and it's orbiting electrons? NOTHING. Now, there are countless atomic particles making up everything you are, see and touch. So, what makes you think that the table in front of you is totally solid and has no measurable energy of its own? Perception. Well perception is historically wrong. (Go ask Galileo, Copernicus... even early "medical" pioneers!)

Those atoms are a form of energy. We are a form of energy. Everything that we think, see, feel, touch, hear, taste, etc is a form of energy. It's not a huge jump to realize that energy used a form of healing has its place in the world.

If you cannot understand that energy has an impact in your world, then perhaps you should throw out your microwave, don't go get xrays, MRI's, laser eye surgery, go live next door to the largest set of power lines you can find, and what the heck, disavow any item that uses electricity because it doesn't matter, right? LOL. Yeah, right.

Not to mention that TV and radio signals are fake, and how on earth can a hunk of metal sitting on earth supposedly communicate with some hunk of metal in space? Sounds silly, right? Well, these are all things that we cannot "see" but we've been trained to accept that they are there. There is so much around us that we cannot see but impacts our lives (by improving it or causing us harm) that is energy based in some form. Again, who are we to say that there is no such thing as energy healing? Purely perception.

A great example is used in the book - pg 171. 100 years ago, it was actually written in the British Medical Journal that if a woman who was menstruating touched a ham, it would turn rancid. Silly, huh? Well, wonder what will be seen as silly (that we take as "gospel" today) 100 years from now!

Lastly, if you think that this form of healing is some excuse to sit on the couch eating bon-bons, chips and fast food all day long, you're in for a real surprise! No REAL healing or wellness program will allow you that, not one.

Good luck with whatever path you choose, and watch the wolves along the way. They will eat you alive.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Kidding, this is the Fountain of Youth!, August 15, 1999
This review is from: Sanctuary: The Path to Consciousness (Hardcover)
Though this book is written in novel form to tell its story, what you read here is a true form of healing and is available to anyone. The book itself and the story are wonderful, easy to read and keeps you page turning. But, I contacted the authors and received the healing they are talking about. In my translation, what this is about is radionics. Yes, I was skeptical at first. After all, I have utilized every form of alternative medicine there is to get rid of violent headaches that I have experienced for years. After 9 years of pain, I am headache free. PLEASE avail yourself of this healing - it truly works!
