W.J.H.B. Sandberg (1897-1984), typographer and director of Amsterdams Stedelijk Museum of Contemporary Art (1945-1962), had an ambition. He wanted to confront the largest number of people with contemporary art and convince them that it was a natural product of the age. This highly illustrated book, traces his contribution to poster design, typography and the transformations (both physical and metaphysical) of the Stedelijk when under his guidance.
