Works great: And, at under $20 the Sandisk SDDR-99 ImageMate 5-in-1 Reader/Writer is a bargain.,

For basic file transfers, you simply insert your card into the device, plug the device into your computer's USB port, then press the device's transfer button. But here's an ALTERNATE transfer method that offers more flexibility: Stick your memory card in the slot, plug the device into your USB port, click the "My Computer" icon on your Windows screen, and suddenly the icon appears for "your card" where you can now drag and drop files onto the card, to and from your hard drive.
I use the device for quickly transferring my mp3 files onto my SD card: I then insert the card in my Palm Tungsten E2 PDA for playing my music on the go.

The unit itself works great. Much faster transfers than using the usb cable directly to my camera. However, the software includes a "monitoring" feature, which checks every second or so, to see if you've plugged in a card. I opened up Windows Task Manager to discover that, each time it checked, it was consuming 25% of system resources (on/off each second). No wonder my computer has been slower lately, especially if I have my image editing software open (duh).
My recommendation would be to skip the San Disk software and access the card reader directly from My Computer, as mentioned in another review below.

Forget those expensive loading docks! This little 2" X 3" transmitter simply plugs into the front or back of your computer with an adapter cord and with 2 minutes of time for the CD progam upload, you are all set! Just place your memory card in the slot and off you go with easy instructions! Don't use up your camera batteries when you can drop $10-$15 bucks for this great little item! The CD-ROM comes with cool extras - so SAVE your batteries!

I recently purchased this wonderful reader about a couple of months ago. I opened the box and plugged it in. I didn't realize how easy it is to use. You push the button on top and a window pops up, then you select transfer images and select a folder then you are pretty much done. It's that simple! I was amazed by this product and I payed $19.99 at Best Buy for it. I RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE.

Reads SDHC like a champ,

As most people know, SanDisk is really the Cadillac of flash memory products, and this is no disappointment to me. Turns out my Canon A570IS camera has some sort of driver problem downloading files over ~300MB on the USB connection, so I wanted a card reader that handled SDHC so I didn't have to go through the camera (my built-in card reader on the laptop handles SD but not SDHC, of course). In any case, this is perfect, works like a charm out of the box, SD, SDHC, etc.etc. I have a PNY 8GB class 4 card, meaning it should read/write at 4MB/sec or higher, and I just benchmarked the read speed at over 7 MB/sec, and the write at about 4.5 MB/sec on this particular card, which leads to believe, as expected, that this SanDisk device runs at maximum speed for your card. So this is the device you want. Have no hesitation, SanDisk practically invented this technology, you know.

I bought this transfer devise to upload my photos to my iBook G4. I love using this because it is so simple to do. There is no complex software, I just plug it in to my USB port and it downloads my photos to iPhoto with one button click. One great feature is that it gives me the option of deleting my disk as it transfers the photos. Another great feature is there is no need for batteries as it uses the computer as a power source. I have had no problems with this devise and am very satisfied. It is very small and lightweight and easy to carry with your laptop.

Before child, I went to the store with the picture station and did my picture work on it -- to save my printer ink?!? We looked at buying this the same time we bought our Cannon s2 powershot, but decided that it wasn't necessary and why spend another $20 on something we didn' need?. Boy were we wrong. AC After child, I ordered this reader and voila! I have pictures to email to grandmas in seconds. I can fill a picture album in a much shorter amount of time, and for less money than the picture station, and it is soo easy. Our machine works great, I leave the reader plugged in and insert my sd- pictures transfer in a second, video in a few seconds. We love it and now I know why my digital camera is better than my SLR, my advantix and my 35mm. Instant pictures of my son, sent out the same day to the people who can't hold him daily is priceless, luckily the device that makes it possible has a price that is amazingly low for great service it provides.

Works great on an iMac,

I have an older iMac G5 running Mac OS X 10.4.8. The ImageMate 5-in-1 worked fine right out of the box. Just plug it in, insert your card (I used either an SD or an xD) and the Finder mounts it fine. I have another card reader from Olympus which didn't work on the Mac, so I really appreciate the SanDisk! My only wish is that it supported CF cards also since I just recently bought a new camera which has a CF card.
