We all have people in our lives who are difficult - who rub us the wrong way. Maybe that sandpaper person in your life actually lives under the same roof as you. Perhaps that sandpaper person is you.

Sandpaper people are those difficult relationships that God often uses, to upset our plans and redirect us to doing His purpose. Southerland believes that if there is something we need, such as patience, God will surround us with irritating people. If we need to be more loving to people, unlovable people will pop up in our lives. You get the idea.

Southerland's book, through personal stories, biblical stories and a study guide, gives us the information and processes by which we can discover and apply God's relationship principles in working with or living with sandpaper people. And in doing so we can become a more devoted follower of Christ as we choose to live and love all those we come in contact with, just as God loves us.

My personal favorite chapters are: Be Forgiving: Forgive and Forget, Be Confrontational: Care Enough to Confront and Be Committed: Refuse to Walk Away. You too will have your favorites, I am sure.

Sandpaper People is a wonderful reminder of what God calls us all to do. It's wonderful because Southerland spells out how we can do it successfully. This is an important book to add to your reference library.

Everyone has them, sandpaper people, those who drive us up the wall we've banged our head against. For Christians, these people are especially difficult, because knowing Christ is our role model, we can't tell them to get off the planet or bash them in the head. The author offers advice on what to do about them. She explains some of the reasons why they might be the way they are and how to deal with them in a Christian manner. Moreover, she points out that God is not surprised by anything, and so, if these people are in your life, He had a reason for putting them there. Whether you are Christian or not, if you have someone who gets on your last nerve, read this book.

I first read Mary's book years ago, recently leafed through it again, and was reminded of its wisdom and applicability. All of us have 'Sandpaper People' in our life. It's important to acknowledge this and equally important to know how to treat them with grace, mercy and love. Mary shows us how, in an entertaining, practical, and deeply biblical way!

Excellent book. I saw quotes from this book in a bible study and decided to get the book.. I think everyone should read it and see if they can find themselves in the book, not just sandpaper people that they have in their lives.
