Book Description

8 and up3 and upReal-Life Reader Biography
Real-Life Reader Biographies present the lives of contemporary role models for young readers. These are the stories of real men and women who, despite many obstacles, followed their dreams.

Sandra Bullock is often regarded as "the girl next door" with her natural beauty and charm. She has certainly added new meaning to the term "America's Sweetheart." She has won over scores of moviegoers with her exuberant portrayals of ordinary women in extraordinary circumstances. Unlike many, Sandra got an early start in her acting career. Born to a vocal coach father and an opera singer mother, Sandra traveled to Germany each year with her mother for the opera season. She liked to be on stage with her mother and appeared in several performances.

In 1994, Sandra starred in the blockbuster film, Speed, and she emerged from behind the bus driver's seat to become one of the leading ladies in Hollywood. With all doors wide open for her, the dark-haired, dark-eyed beauty continues to be the person "Most Likely to Brighten Your Day," as her high-school classmated voted her many years ago.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 4-7-These series titles point up both the positives of this high-interest, easy-reading format, as well as its limitations. Both books provide information about popular movie stars in just 32 pages, peppered with stock black-and-white movie stills and publicity photos. The language is straightforward and easy to grasp. There is some personal information, such as the fact that Julia Roberts is estranged from her brother and Sandra Bullock speaks fluent German, but the emphasis is on the actresses' careers, their movies, and the salaries they can command. The texts read like barely fleshed-out versions of the appended filmographies. The most serious drawback, however, is that no sources are cited for the quotes attributed to the stars or to people associated with them.-Tim Wadham, Maricopa County Library District, Phoenix, AZ

This review is from: Sandra Bullock (Real-Life Reader Biography) (Library Binding)
This is a succinct biography, written for an Elementary School audience. Published in 2001, it chronicles Bullock's life from childhood to the release of Miss Congeniality. Author Susan Zannos reveals the actress as a hardworking, down-to-earth kind of celebrity. Information is outdated.

Nothing much in it that you wouldn't already know if you were a fan.
No colour pics.
Not bad value for money tho.
A bit on the thin side.
Overall, not bad.
