5.0 out of 5 stars love it! BBQ #7 is the best., March 28, 2008
This review is from: Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Grilling 2 (Paperback)
I love Sandra Lee's cookbooks, however, the last couple have been too Martha Stewart for me. But in this one she seems to be back to the basics that have made her so famous.
The first chapter was veggies and sides. The first recipe was Potato Salad where you slice the potatoes and then cook them on the grill for 25 minutes, after which you then cut up for the potato salad. Another recipe was prosciutto wrapped corn on the cob. You cover the corn with italian seasoning first, garlic and wrap with the prosciutto. Cook on the grill for 25 minutes.
I made the Port Wine Portobellos, I marinated the mushrooms overnight and then cooked over the grill for 4 or 5 minutes. They were wonderful.
Sandra Lee makes her own BBQ #7 sauce and it's delish. It combines heinz chili sauce, brown sugar, Jack Daniels, molasses, montreal steak seasoning and several other seasonings. We've made this up and used on pork chops, ribs, even steak and it has been fantastic every time. The recipe is in this grilling cookbook.
She also offers indoor grilling options if an outdoor grill is not an option for you. All recipes include prep, marinate, and grill times so you know if you need to start the marinate the night before.
The Margarita Shrimp Tostadas were very tasty. It involved using ready to drink margarita mix with some seasonings and marinating shrimp. After marinating you only have to grill 4-6 minutes and dinner is ready! You use a pre-made cole slaw mix to complete the meal.
There's a whole chapter devoted to kabobs, yummy. This book also has a chapter on using your turkey fryer. Includes a jack daniels deep fried pork roast that's amazing. Also a deep-fried prime rib with madeira sauce, you just won't believe this one!
There are several dessert grilling recipes too. Overall a very good cookbook to add to your collection. Cookbook has nice full-color pictures. Of course all of Sandra Lee's books have nice pictures and texture. I half expected a chapter on alcohol since many of her last books have focused more on cocktails than the food but like I said this one is back to the basics and less about the cocktails and decorating.
It's all about the grill!

I would also suggest the The Sunset Grill: 125 Tasty Recipes for Casual Get-Togethers and Easy Weeknight Cookouts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Confession, April 24, 2008
This review is from: Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Grilling 2 (Paperback)
I must confess-I adore Sandra Lee and all that her huge empire has accomplished. She is true to her original self in this wonderful new book. Very popular with the men I have given it to. Grilling is so American Apple Pie & comforting to us in the good ole USA.

I use her books as gifts for all of the people that used to be with me on Wall Street and we never had time to cook let alone create lovely home enviornments....well, she makes it all so easy. Of course she has a large team to help create it.

I am surprised & pleased when I see other TV stars copying her-they wait awhile and then use her ideas and recipes but add a ton of butter or chop until their hands bleed & pretend it is all fresh....which of course it can't always be. But then again, that is the greatest compliment, isn't it??

Sandra has 2 more books coming out later this year & I will be buying them .

5.0 out of 5 stars An exceptionally popular addition to personal and community library cookbook collections!, May 3, 2008
This review is from: Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Grilling 2 (Paperback)
Simply stated, Sandra Lee is an expert cook, the host of the successful Food Network television series 'Semi-Homemade Cooking" (which celebrates its 200th episode in May 2008), and the author of thirteen books. The latest of which is "Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Grilling 2" that is comprised of two hundred pages of culinary advice, recipes, gadgets, and illustrations that focus upon the art of the grill. Separate chapters are devoted to grilling veggies and sides; skewers; dogs and sausages; 'things to Do with Your Turkey Fryer'; beef; 'things with Wings; Swimmers (fish); 'Best Burgers'; desserts, and 'Parties' (including party menus and tablescapes from a beach blanket bash to a father's day feast'. With mouth-watering, 'cook friendly' recipes ranging from Prosciuto-Wrapped Corn on the Cob; Salami-Stuffed Pork Chops; Rib Steaks with Raspberry-Tarragon Sauce; and Bourbon-Brined Chicken; to Salmon Steaks with Sun-Dried and Fresh Tomato Salsa; Taco Meat Loaf; Mixed-Berry Cobbler; and Grilled Figs with Orange-Honey Drizzle, "Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Grilling 2" will prove an exceptionally popular addition to personal and community library cookbook collections!

5.0 out of 5 stars Her Best Recipes, April 24, 2008
This review is from: Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Grilling 2 (Paperback)
Sandra Lee's best recipes are on the grill...she loves outdoors & celebrates the easy way to create a fun time with the least amount of concern. I used this new one when it arrived & 3 of the recipes were wonderful for our weekend house guests.

Thanks Sandra!
