If you want to get a basic grilling book, this isn't the one for you.
This book is really creative and requires some higher level cooking experience and knowledge. Its a good book to have just in case you are inspired to make some of the interesting dishes. However, if your looking to grill up some basic steaks, burgers, or such, you'll have to look elsewhere. I love this book for its beautiful pictures and novelty but I don't use it very often.

great food,

Fantastic~~I don't know what the reviews did wrong to say that none of the recipes are good. they must not know how to grill or cook. I bought the book and within the first week, made 6 of the recipes!! They are fantastic, easy to follow and taste great. I keep her rub on hand and the only difference is that I check the food more often so it doesn't burn. If you know how to cook or grill, that's what you need to do. I have several friends and family members that bought it too and love it. Best grill book I ever had. Will try the oven recipes in the winter to see how they turn out.

We got this book and have made at least half of the recipes. We started making the recipes for Sunday football. Then our neighbor asked to borrow it because they were so delicious, and ended up buying it for her own family. I have gifted it to family for birthdays. It is that great! Our favorite is the jalapeno poppers! mmmmm! Also any of the wing recipes. Great for entertaining!

Sandra puts a spin on lots of "regular" grilling dishes. Everything I have made from this book has brought nothing but yummms from my dinner guests. A must have book for grillers.

My favorite of her books . . . so far.,

I chose this book over other grilling books because I was intimidated by grilling (my husband does all the backyard cooking in our house) and I wanted some quick recipes. I also bought two other of her books, but this one is really something special. I love the layout of the book and the pictures are beautiful. The food looks mouth-watering. The first few pages explain a lot about grilling, techniques, and necessary equipment. The recipes in this book are great because they don't require a ton of ingredients, are easy, and straight-forward. Oh, and each recipe includes indoor cooking directions, which has proved extremely valuable to me. As for the food itself, everything I've made so far has been delicious. There is a lot of variety in this book which includes chapters on all types of meat, seafood, side dishes, desserts, and she even has a chapter devoted to grilled pizzas and quesadillas. I don't know what else to say, other than to make sure you get a copy before summer arrives.

Too many things burned up while cooking,
By Merandah (Houston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Grilling (Paperback)
I grill a lot and got this book as a gift. Frankly, I don't think I have ever seen a book filled with such poorly thought-out recipes. She seems to think you can cook ANYTHING on a grill. Yes, you can cook many things on a grill, but you need an accurate recipe to do so properly. At least half of the dozen or so recipes I have tried burned up while cooking. I find it hard to believe that her publisher would put out a book without trying out the recipes, but I suspect that that's the case here. Too bad. I'm sure that most of the recipes could have been saved if someone had cared enough to edit them. Too bad no one did.

I love Sandra Lee's books and recipes. She has great ideas that make you go "Why didn't I think of that?" Great book. Could use as a gift for a beginner cook also.

Didn't seem like viable recipes,

I wasn't able to try too many recipes from this book before it started raining again but the ones I did try turned out poorly. It's possible that grilling over charcoal instead of over the specific brand of gas grill that the author used to develop the recipes might have been my problem, but if so that's a failure for the book, not for me. I suspect indoor grilling might work better for some of these, and if I had an indoor grill I'd try it that way, but if so, that's a failure for the book once again as it ought to specify this. All in all, I'm glad I got it from the library to look it over rather than spending money on it. Some of the pictures are downright gorgeous and some of the ideas in the book seem interesting and worth pursuing, but not enough so to make me want to buy this for myself (possibly if I find it used for cheap.)
